First enable live streaming for your channel, create a stream in YouTube Studio, and give the encoder YouTube’s server URL and stream key. The playlist and its repeat behavior must be configured in the encoder or service you choose; YouTube’s setup guide does not describe a universal playlist-to-Live looping control.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says the channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Video files you have the right to stream, plus an encoder or hosted service that can send a continuous feed and repeat the lesson playlist.
- A stable internet connection with upload capacity and headroom for variation or other network use.
YouTube’s encoder workflow is intended for live output, including 24/7 streams of prerecorded video. It does not turn a regular YouTube playlist into a continuous Live broadcast by itself.
Set up the YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, confirm live streaming is enabled. If this is your first activation, plan for up to 24 hours before you can go live.
- Open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Enter an accurate title and description, choose the audience designation that fits the content, and select the privacy setting for your test or launch.
- In the encoder connection details, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder or hosted service. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.

Choose how to keep the playlist running
Local encoder on a computer
A local encoder sends the feed from a computer you maintain. Select software or hardware that explicitly supports continuous output and the playlist behavior you need, then keep the computer, encoder, and network connection running for the full broadcast. This route gives you direct control of local files, but the stream can stop if the computer, encoder, or home connection fails.

Hosted cloud service
A hosted service can run the feed remotely, so your own computer does not need to remain on. Confirm directly with the service that it supports the number and order of prerecorded files you plan to use, repeat or rotation behavior, recovery after interruptions, credential handling, and its current price and limits. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, but that mention is not an endorsement or a statement of current pricing or performance.
Configure and verify the playlist
- Upload or load the lesson recordings into the selected encoder or service in the intended order.
- Set that product’s repeat, rotation, or playlist option. This is a product-specific setting: YouTube’s cited instructions explain connecting an encoder but do not prescribe a universal playlist-loop procedure.
- Preview the feed and check that the next lesson starts as expected, audio remains audible, and transitions do not leave long unintended gaps. Run an unlisted or private test before publishing.

Test the stream and prepare for interruptions
- Start with an unlisted or private event and inspect the watch page on a computer and a mobile device. YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring audio and video quality.
- Check the complete playlist sequence, including the transition from the last lesson back to the first. Do not assume that a playlist repeats until you have observed the repeat in a test.
- Leave upload-bandwidth headroom and watch the connection during the test. A network interruption can break the outgoing stream.
- Keep local copies of the lesson files and decide how you will restart or recover after an encoder, computer, service, or network failure. YouTube also recommends checking the integrity of local recordings for encoder-based events.

Check rights, titles, and audience settings
Clear every part of every lesson
You are responsible for having the rights needed to stream the content, including relevant music rights. Chemistry lessons are not automatically clear of copyright issues: review footage, slides, images, music, demonstrations, and any clips embedded in the recordings. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate the stream. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel for live use.

Describe the playlist accurately
Use a title and description that reflect the actual lessons and their sequence. YouTube prohibits playlists that violate its Community Guidelines and does not allow misleading titles or descriptions. Its playlist guidance is at YouTube Help.

Choose the audience designation based on the content
Do not mark a chemistry stream as made for kids or not made for kids solely because it is educational. Base the designation on the intended audience and content. If a stream or channel is designated made for kids, YouTube lists live chat and comments among the features that are disabled; personalized ads are also disabled on live streams and Premieres. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. That statement does not establish that a single uninterrupted 24/7 stream will have one complete archive. If an archive matters, plan around the documented limit: check current YouTube guidance and consider whether a deliberate end-and-restart schedule fits your audience before relying on it.

Common problems and fixes

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use YouTube’s normal playlist feature as the live stream loop?
No. A YouTube playlist and a continuous Live feed are different workflows; the loop must be handled by the encoder or hosted service.
Can the stream remain live while my computer is off?
Yes, if you use a hosted cloud service to send the feed rather than a local encoder running on that computer.
Does marking a lesson educational automatically make it made for kids?
No. The audience setting depends on the intended audience and content, not simply the educational subject.
