Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To loop a guided breathing video on YouTube Live, add it to an OBS Studio scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, and send that scene to YouTube through an encoder stream. YouTube’s player loop repeats an on-demand video; it does not loop a live broadcast. OBS restarts the file when it finishes, but that alone cannot guarantee a seamless join or uninterrupted playback for every viewer.
What “without a gap” means
There are several separate links in the chain, and each can affect what viewers experience:
- Source loop: OBS restarts the media file after playback completes.
- Smooth join: The file’s ending and beginning are edited so the change in picture and sound is not noticeable.
- Continuous live feed: The encoder keeps sending the stream to YouTube without a connection or software interruption.
- Continuous playback for each viewer: YouTube delivery, viewer buffering, network conditions, latency, and DVR position can affect playback independently of the source loop.
OBS documents that its Loop property restarts a file after playback completes; it does not promise a frame-perfect transition. YouTube likewise does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery to every viewer. Prepare and inspect the loop point, test the broadcast, and monitor stream health rather than treating one checkbox as a zero-gap guarantee.
Loop the video in OBS and send it to YouTube Live
1. Prepare and inspect the breathing video
Use a media format supported by the installed OBS Media Source. OBS lists video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, as well as common audio formats. Watch and listen to the end-to-start transition: check whether a spoken cue, count, music, or visual pulse cuts abruptly or makes the breathing sequence confusing. If the transition is jarring, edit the endpoints and review the result before going live.

2. Add a Media Source and enable Loop
- In OBS, open the scene you intend to send to YouTube.
- Add a Media Source to that scene and select the video file.
- Enable the source’s Loop property. OBS describes this setting as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed.
- Keep the Media Source visible and active in the outgoing scene. Check the OBS preview at the end of the file and as it restarts.
These steps make OBS repeat the source; they do not make the normal YouTube player repeat a live stream. See the OBS Media Sources documentation for the source controls.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube preview before making the stream public or announcing it.
First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Consult YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and live stream settings for the current controls.

4. Test the stream and check the feed
Before relying on the broadcast, test with representative audio and movement, watch the transition in the preview, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. Choose encoder settings that fit your available upload capacity; leave bandwidth headroom and use a reliable connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion. Its network tips recommend 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the stream bitrate; this is a recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance, live streaming tips, and streaming tips.
A wired Ethernet connection may help if Wi-Fi is unreliable and your computer and router support it. It is optional, and it cannot prevent every interruption.

Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

Choose DVR settings for a guided session
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume from their paused position. During a guided breathing session, a viewer who pauses or rewinds may fall behind the live cue. Decide whether that flexibility suits the experience: turning DVR off removes live rewind, while a recording may still become available after the stream. Review the DVR control in YouTube Studio’s stream settings and see YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Plan for long streams and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the recording matters, keep a local copy. Splitting a longer broadcast into separate sessions can interrupt the public live stream; it is not a way to preserve one uninterrupted broadcast while avoiding the archive limitation. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Fix common loop and stream problems
- The video plays once and stops: Confirm that Loop is enabled on the Media Source and that the source is active in the outgoing scene.
- The transition has a pause, jump, or audio cut: Inspect the file’s end and beginning. The loop setting restarts playback but does not edit the media into a seamless join.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Check the stream URL and key in OBS, confirm the stream is active in the Live Control Room, and verify that the channel is eligible to live stream.
- The stream health indicator shows problems or viewers report buffering: Check upload capacity and stability, leave headroom beyond the stream bitrate, and review encoder settings. A reliable wired connection may help where Wi-Fi is unstable.
- A viewer is out of sync with the breathing cue: Consider whether DVR pause and rewind are appropriate for the session, since a viewer can resume behind the live position.
- No archive appears after a long broadcast: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording if you need an archive.
Or let it run in the cloud

What to choose for a one-video loop
For a one-file loop when you already have a computer available, OBS provides the direct local method: put the video in a Media Source, enable Loop, and send the scene through YouTube’s encoder workflow. A cloud service is an alternative when you do not want the computer or home connection to remain on. Either approach still depends on a well-prepared loop point and does not guarantee every viewer an uninterrupted, imperceptible transition.
