Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To stream a compatible playlist of pre-encoded H.264 files to YouTube Live without re-encoding, use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer, pace the file input with -re, and send it with -c copy to the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy mode preserves the original compressed streams; it cannot fix incompatible segments or change their bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, resolution, or audio encoding.
What copy mode does—and what it cannot do
FFmpeg’s -c copy (also written -codec copy) copies selected compressed streams without decoding and re-encoding them. It avoids another lossy encode and reduces the processing required, but the output inherits the source streams’ properties.
That makes copy mode suitable only when the files are already compatible with each other and with YouTube’s ingest guidance. It does not convert codecs, normalize timestamps or durations, change bitrate or frame rate, or repair keyframe spacing. If a file is out of spec, prepare a compliant source by re-encoding it rather than expecting copy mode to correct it.
Check the files before building the playlist
The concat demuxer joins files as a sequence; it is not a general-purpose way to combine unrelated media. FFmpeg requires the files to have matching streams, codecs, and time bases. Inaccurate duration metadata can also affect timestamp adjustment at segment boundaries. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check every segment’s video and audio streams, stream layout, codecs, and time bases.
- Confirm that the segments play correctly and that their stored durations are reliable, especially if artifacts or timing jumps have appeared at joins.
- Check that the existing encoding aligns with the YouTube ingest recommendations below. With stream copy, you cannot change those settings on the way out.
If your files do not match, make compatible source files first, or use a single already assembled file. Do not assume that changing the playlist command will reconcile different codecs or stream layouts.
Match YouTube’s ingest guidance
YouTube’s current encoder settings page recommends the following H.264 video bitrates. These are ingest recommendations, not a promise that a particular internet connection can sustain them. Choose the row that matches the encoded video’s resolution and frame rate, and test with the available upload capacity. The values below are from YouTube’s settings page as accessed in 2026: YouTube live encoder settings.

YouTube also recommends constant bitrate (CBR), keyframes every two seconds (no more than four seconds apart), video up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo audio, its page recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps audio bitrate. These are properties to check in your existing files: strict copy mode cannot alter them.
Create the concat manifest
Make a plain-text manifest in playback order. For automatic recognition, the first line must be exactly ffconcat version 1.0. For example:

Put the manifest and media files in locations that match the paths you write. Quote or escape path characters as needed. The concat demuxer’s safe-path setting defaults to 1 and rejects paths it considers unsafe. The command below uses -safe 0 to allow arbitrary paths; use it only with a manifest and local files you trust. See FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation.
Get the YouTube ingest URL and stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- In Stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key supplied for that stream. YouTube makes the RTMPS URL available from the lock icon and describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL. Prefer RTMPS when your FFmpeg build and network support it. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance and YouTube’s streaming setup instructions.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Keep it out of public shell history, shared scripts, screenshots, and logs. Use a protected secret mechanism in production rather than publishing the key in a command example.
The server URL and key are assigned in Live Control Room; do not guess or reuse a URL from an old setup. Confirm that the FFmpeg build you installed supports RTMPS before starting.

Send the playlist with FFmpeg
Use this command pattern, replacing the destination placeholders with the exact RTMPS URL and key from Live Control Room. The placeholders are not literal credentials:
ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a? -c copy -f flv "$YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL/$YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY"
-repaces a file input at its native frame rate—effectively a read rate of 1—rather than sending the playlist as fast as the machine can read it. Put it before the input option-i. FFmpeg describes this as useful where packet flow speed matters, such as live streaming. See FFmpeg documentation for-reand stream copy.-f concatselects the concat demuxer, and-i playlist.ffconcatreads the manifest.-map 0:v:0selects the first video stream.-map 0:a?selects audio if present; if the playlist has no audio, omit that mapping.-c copycopies the selected streams without re-encoding.-f flvselects the output muxer used by this command pattern.
Confirm the output muxer and RTMPS destination syntax against the URL YouTube currently provides and the installed FFmpeg build. This is a command pattern, not a guarantee that every playlist, URL, or FFmpeg installation will work unchanged. Avoid adding video filters, scaling, frame-rate conversion, -c:v libx264, or audio re-encoding if the goal is to copy the streams unchanged.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use -re for file input, not to throttle an actual capture or live input; FFmpeg cautions that low read rates on live inputs can cause packet loss.
Test the stream and start the event
- Start FFmpeg and watch Live Control Room for the incoming preview and stream-health messages.
- Confirm that the video plays, audio is present where expected, and the stream is reaching YouTube before you begin an event. YouTube recommends testing with representative movement and sound and monitoring the stream’s health.
- For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and use Live Control Room’s Go live control when required by the event workflow.
- When finished, end the event through Live Control Room as appropriate, then stop FFmpeg. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. See YouTube’s streaming instructions.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot open the playlist | The manifest’s first line, file paths, quoting, and safe-path behavior. | Make the first line exactly ffconcat version 1.0; correct the paths and escaping. If using -safe 0, make sure the manifest and files are trusted. |
| Only the first segment plays, or joins have glitches | Stream layouts, codecs, time bases, and duration metadata across all files. | Make the segments compatible or assemble a single suitable file. Investigate unreliable stored durations before changing the command; concat timestamp adjustment relies on the preceding file’s duration. |
| The playlist runs too quickly or timing is wrong | Whether -re appears before the file input’s -i. |
Use real-time pacing for file input. Do not apply a low read rate to a capture or live input. |
| YouTube reports ingest or quality problems | Existing video bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, CBR status, and audio codec and settings. | Compare the source with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Copy mode cannot fix a mismatch; prepare a compliant source, re-encoding if necessary. |
| RTMPS connection or certificate error | The copied URL, protocol, FFmpeg’s RTMPS support, and any network or client requirement for port 443. | Copy the current RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and check the installed client and network. YouTube lists an incorrect protocol or URL, port issues, and missing RTMPS support among troubleshooting checks: RTMPS troubleshooting. |
| No preview appears | Whether FFmpeg is sending to the correct URL with the matching stream key, and the connection status in Live Control Room. | Verify the server URL and key from the same stream setup, confirm transmission, and wait for the preview. A scheduled event may still need you to click Go live. |
