Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can run a 24/7 Indian forest sounds stream from an old PC by sending a prepared audio-and-visual mix to YouTube with OBS. Before relying on it, test the computer and internet connection under the real workload: continuous streaming also depends on stable power, cooling, and a plan for interruptions. YouTube may not capture a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so arrange a local recording or planned restarts if you need a replay.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified, eligible for live streaming, and has had no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16. Enable live streaming ahead of your planned start; a newly created or unverified channel may not be able to start immediately. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- An old PC capable of running OBS and sending a continuous stream. Its processor, graphics hardware, operating system, cooling, and available storage determine what it can sustain; there is no safe resolution to assume without testing.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen bitrate, plus reliable power and a way to notice if the stream stops.
- Forest audio and visuals you made or have permission to use for both live streaming and any later replay.
Prepare the forest sounds and visual
Use a recording you created or have licensed for the planned uses. Check rights for the forest recording, any embedded music or samples, and the accompanying image or video. YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for obtaining necessary rights, including applicable music licenses.
For an older PC, a still image paired with forest audio is a practical, lower-complexity starting point than continuously encoding detailed moving footage. It is an engineering choice, not a YouTube requirement, and it does not guarantee monetization eligibility. Test the complete composition, including audio, rather than assuming a still image removes the need to check performance.
Set up YouTube and OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and create an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder instructions. Copy the stream URL or server address and stream key provided for the stream.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS, go to Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key and server details as applicable to your OBS version. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream.
- Build a scene. Add the still image or video source and the forest audio source. Confirm the image is visible and the audio meter responds; listen to the output to check volume, clarity, and unwanted gaps or clipping.
- Configure and test the encoder. Start conservatively, using a profile your computer and upload connection can sustain. Start streaming from OBS, inspect the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, and confirm the public watch page is accessible.
- Monitor the actual stream before relying on it. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder in advance, testing the preview, checking the watch page, and continuously monitoring audio and video. Its advice is direct: “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” See YouTube live streaming tips.
Choose settings that an old PC and connection can hold
Run an upload-speed test, then select a bitrate with room for normal network variation. A speed-test result is not a guarantee of sustained upload capacity. Test the stream with the real scene and audio for long enough to notice dropped frames, audio problems, or overheating, and only raise quality if the encoder and connection remain stable.

YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); AAC or MP3 audio; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. RTMPS encrypts the connection and is recommended. For the H.264 recommendations below, use the row matching your chosen output; the bitrate is YouTube guidance, not a guarantee your PC or internet can sustain it. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
Let YouTube detect resolution and frame rate unless you have a reason to configure a custom stream key. For an unknown older machine, test a modest profile first. OBS’s dropped-frames counter is useful: rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a configured bitrate the connection cannot maintain. Check it alongside YouTube’s stream-health feedback. OBS troubleshooting guidance is available through the OBS Help Portal.

Plan for interruptions and replays
A 24/7 stream is not just an OBS setting. The PC can sleep, overheat, lose power, or lose internet; the audio source can stop, and a failure can go unnoticed. Disable sleep for the planned operating period, check cooling during an extended test, keep source files locally available, and decide who will respond when the stream drops. These precautions cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation, especially when the computer, connection, and local power conditions are unknown.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream lasting longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete replay matters, record locally as a backup or use shorter broadcast blocks with a deliberate restart. Local recording consumes storage and may add load to an old PC, so test it with streaming before depending on it. An external drive may help, but the required capacity depends on recording settings and how long you keep recordings. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

| Approach | What it helps with | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One continuous 24-hour encoder session | Viewers get a stream without scheduled restarts. | YouTube may not capture a stream beyond 12 hours, and an interruption can stop the broadcast. |
| Shorter planned sessions | Sessions under 12 hours can be automatically archived. | You need to restart and monitor the stream on a schedule. |
| Local recording backup | Provides a separate copy if the platform archive is unavailable. | Requires storage and testing to ensure recording does not destabilize the old PC. |
Understand copyright and monetization separately
Permission to use a recording addresses rights; it does not ensure that a channel will qualify for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies require original and authentic content, and its July 15, 2025 clarification says repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its inauthentic-content policy. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission: reviewers may consider whether your contribution is clear and whether the material adds meaningful original value. A channel built from near-identical loops may face monetization concerns even if the audio and visuals are licensed. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not show an incoming signal: Check that OBS is using the correct service, stream URL/server, and current stream key. Confirm the channel is eligible and live streaming has been enabled.
- The stream has dropped frames or poor health: Lower the output bitrate or resolution, test upload stability, and compare OBS’s dropped-frames counter with YouTube’s stream-health feedback. A bitrate that is too high for the connection or an unstable connection can cause dropped frames.
- The PC becomes hot, sluggish, or unstable: Stop the test, check ventilation and cooling, and retry with a simpler scene and more conservative output. Do not assume a one-time successful start means the machine can sustain the workload continuously.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured. Use local recording or split future broadcasts into shorter planned sessions if a replay is important.
- Audio is silent, distorted, or interrupted: Verify the intended audio source is active in OBS, watch its meter, listen to the stream preview, and confirm the source file plays reliably through the test.
- The stream stops while unattended: Check sleep and power settings, internet availability, computer temperatures, and who is responsible for noticing a failure. A local encoder requires an operating PC and connection throughout the broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want an old PC and home connection to carry the entire broadcast, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your forest recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded material from the cloud. It does not stream from a camera.
