OBS scene collections can keep each channel’s scenes and sources separate, but they do not choose the YouTube destination or save output settings. For that, pair each collection with the appropriate OBS profile, then verify the channel’s stream key and test the complete setup. Collections help organize a workflow; by themselves, they do not create separate simultaneous feeds or guarantee an unattended 24/7 stream.

What scene collections do—and what they do not

An OBS scene collection saves a channel’s scenes and sources so you can switch between distinct production setups. OBS Project describes collections as saving “all Scenes and Sources that have been added to it.” A collection can hold layouts such as a starting scene, main program, break screen, and end screen.

A collection is not a separate streaming destination. OBS stores stream, video, and output settings in profiles, not scene collections. In OBS’s words, a profile saves settings primarily related to outputs. A profile does not store scenes, and collections and profiles can be mixed and matched.

Do OBS scene collections save my YouTube stream settings? No. Use a profile for stream and output settings, including the connected account, and a scene collection for scenes and sources. Before going live, check both active names and confirm the destination in YouTube Studio.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Set up a collection for each channel

  1. Create the collection. In OBS, open Scene Collection and choose New. Give it a clear channel-specific name, such as “Documentary Channel — Main.” OBS also documents Duplicate, Rename, and Remove options. Labels can vary by OBS version.
  2. Build that channel’s scenes and sources. Add only the scenes, media, and sources that belong to the channel’s production. For a simple prerecorded program, this might mean a title scene, a program scene, and a break or end screen. The collection saves the scene/source arrangement, not the video platform destination.
  3. Review global audio. A collection includes Global Audio Sources configured in Settings → Audio. Check these sources when separating channels: a shared microphone, desktop-audio device, or other global input can carry across a setup even when the visible scenes differ. Confirm the intended devices and test for unwanted audio.
  4. Repeat for each channel. Use names that identify the channel and purpose at a glance. Distinct collection names reduce selection mistakes, but do not assume switching a collection also changes the stream key or output configuration.
  5. Back up before substantial changes or migration. Under Scene Collection, use Export to save a collection backup and Import to bring one into OBS. OBS documents importing OBS Studio collections and collections from OBS Classic, XSplit Broadcaster, or Streamlabs Desktop; compatibility details may depend on the collection and software version.

Pair each collection with the right OBS profile

Create a profile for each distinct streaming configuration where needed. Profiles save stream settings, including the connected account, video settings, and output settings; they do not contain scenes. For example, a channel may have a “Documentary Channel — YouTube” profile paired with its “Documentary Channel — Main” collection.

  1. Choose the intended profile from OBS’s Profile menu, then choose the intended collection from Scene Collection.
  2. Use consistent names so the profile and collection for a channel are easy to pair. This is a practical safeguard, not an automatic link between them.
  3. Open the profile’s stream settings and verify the service, server URL, and stream key for the intended YouTube channel.
  4. Check output and video settings in that profile. Select settings appropriate to the video and available upload capacity; the collection does not preserve these choices.
  5. Before each start, confirm both active names and check the destination in YouTube Studio. Do not rely on a scene collection change alone to switch channels.

Connect OBS to the correct YouTube channel

YouTube’s encoder setup flow is to create or select a stream in YouTube Studio, then enter that stream’s YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Follow the current controls in YouTube Studio and OBS because interface labels can change.

  1. Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction within the preceding 90 days. Enabling a channel’s first live stream may take up to 24 hours.
  2. Create or select the intended stream in YouTube Studio, making sure it belongs to the channel you intend to broadcast from.
  3. Copy that stream’s server URL and key into the corresponding fields in the active OBS profile. A key from another channel or stream can send the feed to the wrong destination or prevent the intended stream from receiving it.
  4. Keep the key private. YouTube Help says stream keys are like the stream’s password and address. Only a channel owner or manager can reset a key. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the OBS profile using the replacement.
  5. Preview before going live. Verify the incoming picture and sound in YouTube Studio, then confirm the public channel or watch page shows the expected stream when you start.

Test continuity, bandwidth, and the archive plan

OBS recommends testing settings, stream smoothness, and scenes before the first live broadcast. YouTube advises previewing the feed and monitoring audio and video quality. These checks can reveal configuration problems, but they are not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

  • Budget upload capacity. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom of 20% above the total stream bitrate. The total outbound bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. If sending multiple feeds simultaneously, budget for their combined outbound bitrate plus headroom; that combined-feed calculation follows from YouTube’s total-bitrate guidance, rather than a separate multi-channel threshold published by YouTube.
  • Monitor the actual feed. Watch the YouTube preview and channel/watch page, and listen for audio problems. A local OBS preview alone does not establish that YouTube is receiving the correct feed.
  • Plan for network disruption. YouTube warns that a network interruption can break a stream. A test does not establish that a machine, OBS, or network will recover unattended. The cited OBS and YouTube setup guidance does not specify a supported one-OBS architecture for multiple simultaneous feeds or a recovery procedure for 24/7 use.
  • Set archive expectations carefully. YouTube’s encoder guide documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. That guidance does not establish that one continuous 24-hour broadcast will automatically produce a complete 24-hour archive. If a complete recording matters, confirm current YouTube archive behavior and consider whether separate sessions or local recording meet the need.
  • Check content rights and platform rules. Use footage, music, and other material you have the rights to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and reused-content policies. A technically successful feed does not establish that its content complies with those rules.

What OBS scene collections cannot establish for a 24/7 setup

Separate collections are useful for organizing distinct channel layouts, and profiles separate the relevant output settings. Those facts do not explain how to run several independent YouTube feeds simultaneously from one OBS process, whether separate OBS instances are appropriate for a particular computer and operating system, or how to make unattended restarts reliable. The official OBS and YouTube setup guidance cited here does not document those implementation details. Do not treat switching collections as multi-channel output or failover.

Before choosing an architecture for simultaneous channels, establish the OBS version, operating system, number of feeds, each feed’s destination and key, available system resources and upload bandwidth, and the required restart and archive behavior. Then verify a method specifically supported for that configuration. The steps above cover organizing and verifying channel setups; they do not claim a proven multi-output or automatic recovery design.
