You can run a continuous YouTube Live stream from a prepaid VPS by connecting an encoder on the server to the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The key decision is whether the VPS can sustain your actual workload: sending an already encoded feed is lighter than encoding video on the server. Test the setup, check the VPS’s data-transfer terms, and plan for interruptions and archiving before relying on it.
What a VPS does in a 24/7 YouTube stream
A VPS is a remotely hosted computer. You install or run an encoder there, give it your media and YouTube’s ingest details, then leave it running. You administer the server and are responsible for its software, monitoring, storage, and restart behavior.
The workload depends on the media. If the server re-encodes video, its CPU (or other available encoding resources) must handle that continuously at the chosen resolution and frame rate. If it only relays a compatible, already encoded feed, the processing demand may be lower. Neither a plan’s advertised specifications nor a provider’s streaming label proves that a particular stream will work; test with your own content and monitor the server and YouTube’s stream health.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream. YouTube’s encoder guide explains how to obtain the stream URL and key and enter them in an encoder. Use the server URL and key associated with the intended broadcast.
- Choose an encoder and operating system. A command-line encoder can suit a loop of prerecorded files; a graphical workflow such as OBS may be more appropriate if you need scenes and desktop controls. This is a workflow choice, not a guarantee of compatibility or performance. Follow the instructions for your chosen encoder, operating system, and media format.
- Prepare the VPS and media. Check that the server has enough storage for source files and any local recordings, and that its resources suit encoding or relaying. Confirm the provider’s sustained egress, transfer allowance, fair-use or excess-transfer rules, location, support, and renewal terms. Keep an accessible copy of source media elsewhere.
- Enter the YouTube destination in the encoder. Configure the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in code, screenshots, or logs. If it is exposed, an owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio; see YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- Start with a representative test. Send the actual kind of video and audio you plan to broadcast. Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health messages, and watch server CPU, memory, network use, and storage. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and video movement and monitoring stream health.
- Make the process recoverable. Decide how you will detect and restart a stopped encoder or recover after a server interruption. Monitor the process and the broadcast rather than assuming it will remain live. A VPS plan’s stated availability or support is not a substitute for testing your own setup.
YouTube encoder settings to check
YouTube’s current Help recommendations specify RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). For H.264, its recommended bitrates are:

| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help recommendations, not a promise that a VPS can encode or deliver them. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams for different playback formats. For other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs, consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings rather than extrapolating from the H.264 figures.
YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom above the stream bitrate and advises testing the outbound connection. The server’s sustained upload route to YouTube matters, not just a headline network-port speed. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

Choose a prepaid VPS carefully in India
Provider listings are seller claims, not independent performance tests. Treat the following as examples to investigate, not endorsements or verified recommendations for a particular resolution. Confirm that the plan is available to you and recheck specifications and terms at checkout.
| Provider listing | Advertised details | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Inservers | Streaming VPS listed from ₹880/month; the entry configuration shown is 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, and 1 Gbps unmetered bandwidth. Provider listing. | Whether the resources sustain your encode, what “unmetered” means in practice, availability, renewal price, fair-use rules, taxes, and support. |
| NivoHost | Listings include a ₹699/month plan described as 360p at 10 fps and a ₹1,799/month tier described as 720p at 30 fps. Provider listing. | Current offer and included resources, transfer and tax details, and whether the advertised output is suitable for your content and channel. |
Before paying, verify directly with the selected provider whether the plan is genuinely prepaid, which payment methods it accepts, whether it auto-renews, the renewal price and taxes, and its cancellation and refund rules. These checkout details are not established by the plan listings above; do not assume that a provider accepts UPI or a particular card.

Estimate transfer and plan for archives
A 24/7 stream consumes substantial outbound data. As a rough illustration, a constant 4 Mbps feed sent continuously uses about 43.2 GB per day, or about 1.3 TB over 30 days, before protocol overhead. At 10 Mbps, the corresponding figures are about 108 GB per day and 3.24 TB over 30 days. These are arithmetic estimates based on the stated bitrate and uninterrupted transmission, not a provider’s measured usage. Compare your expected egress with the VPS transfer allowance and ask how overages, throttling, or fair-use limits work.
Do not treat a continuous YouTube broadcast as a dependable complete archive. YouTube says streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends keeping a local recording backup. Its encoder guide says streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived, but that does not remove the risk for a longer, uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. See YouTube’s archive guidance. If you need the full program, arrange and test a separate recording and enough storage; preserve the original files as well.

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Using a VPS does not change the rights or YouTube rules that apply to the broadcast. Before looping a documentary, soundtrack, or other prerecorded material, make sure you have the necessary rights or permission for the content and the way you plan to use it. A successful encoder connection does not establish that a video is authorized or that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization requirements. Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance and channel monetization policies.
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the encoder uses the correct server URL and stream key for the selected broadcast, and that the stream is actually started. If the key may have leaked, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Stream health reports connection or bitrate trouble: Check sustained outbound capacity, not just the VPS’s advertised port speed. Reduce the configured bitrate if needed, retain YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom, and test again.
- The server becomes overloaded or the output stalls: Determine whether the VPS is encoding or only relaying. For encoding, test a lower resolution or frame rate, or choose resources suited to the measured workload; do not infer success from vCPU or RAM figures alone.
- The broadcast stops after a process or server interruption: Check server and encoder logs, restart the encoder, and confirm YouTube has resumed receiving data. Set up monitoring and a tested restart procedure for your environment.
- The source files run out or the archive is incomplete: Check available disk space and the encoder’s loop behavior. Keep independent source copies and a local recording if you need a full archive; a YouTube archive is not assured for a stream longer than 12 hours.
- The final VPS bill or renewal differs from expectations: Recheck checkout taxes, renewal pricing, transfer limits, overage or fair-use terms, auto-renewal, and cancellation/refund conditions with the provider before purchase.
