First decide what “live 24/7” means
Two different jobs are often described as keeping a YouTube channel live around the clock:
- Unattended prerecorded playout: You upload videos or music, arrange a playlist, and keep it running as a continuous YouTube live stream.
- Live production: People, cameras, or other live sources contribute to a show, and someone or a production system switches the output.
StreamVoodoo’s official WebApp FAQ describes browser-based real-time video and audio connections, with feeds that can be routed into OBS or vMix. It does not document a native unattended playlist scheduler or promise 24/7 availability. A VPS, by contrast, can run a playout or encoding workflow you configure, but you become responsible for operating it.

What StreamVoodoo documents
StreamVoodoo describes itself as a way to connect multiple high-definition video sources with studio-quality sound in real time through a browser. Its FAQ says room feeds can be pulled into OBS or vMix using Magic Links, then sent onward to a streaming destination. That makes it potentially useful upstream in a live production; it does not establish that StreamVoodoo itself can keep an unattended prerecorded playlist on air continuously.
Rooms and connections
The FAQ states that Duo supports two concurrent room connections, Cinco five, and Switcher up to ten. It says a room lasts one week after the host leaves and may be republished if the host rejoins with the same room name. These are vendor-stated details; the FAQ does not show a publication date, so verify current plan terms before relying on them.

Feed quality settings
For its own production feeds, the FAQ describes a default 720p resolution, participant selection of 1080p, 3–4 Mbps as standard, and 6 Mbps or higher when broadcasting. It says Ethernet is required for the highest described video quality, and describes 4K at 60 fps and up to 10 Mbps in a browser or up to 20 Mbps in the Mac app. These figures describe StreamVoodoo feed options; they are not YouTube ingest recommendations or requirements for a VPS. A wired Ethernet connection is a sensible setup choice for that workflow, but cannot guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
What a VPS changes—and what it does not
A VPS gives you control over the operating system, encoder, source handling, and automation. It does not remove the operational work: you must build and maintain the workflow and plan for failures. The right server resources and cost depend on the source resolution and frame rate, encoding method, output bitrate, input type, provider egress policy, and recovery design. There is no universal CPU, memory, operating system, bandwidth allowance, or monthly cost established for this use.

Responsibilities you retain
- Configuring the playout or encoder process and keeping source files accessible.
- Protecting the YouTube stream key and limiting who can access it.
- Supervising the process, host reboots, and network or source failures.
- Setting up alerts and deciding how to restart the stream or intervene when it stops.
- Checking the provider’s current CPU, network, egress, and billing terms against your workload.
A VPS does not guarantee uptime simply because it is hosted in a data center. Before committing, decide who detects a dropped process, what restarts it, how you learn that a restart failed, and whether a new YouTube session is acceptable.
YouTube eligibility and policy apply to every method
YouTube’s live-streaming help page says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days to enable live streaming. YouTube also requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; violations can lead to stream removal or restrictions.

The same help page states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. Those are platform limits, not a recommendation to split a single 24/7 stream among multiple sessions. Whatever method you use, make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material in the stream; a continuous schedule does not exempt content from YouTube’s policies.

- Choose a VPS when you need control over the software and automation and can own configuration, monitoring, security, and recovery.
- Choose hosted playout when you want a provider to handle the continuous prerecorded-stream machinery; confirm current playlist behavior, storage, runtime limits, recovery, alerts, support, and plan eligibility.
For any hosted provider, ask what happens after YouTube drops the stream, whether recovery creates a new YouTube session, what customer alerts are sent, and what support is available. Do not treat a feature statement as an independently measured uptime guarantee.
