How to Loop a Video on YouTube Live with Streamlabs Desktop

Add a video source to Streamlabs Desktop, connect YouTube Live, and test repeat playback before relying on an unattended loop.

To loop a video on YouTube Live with Streamlabs Desktop, add the video to a scene, connect Streamlabs to your YouTube stream, and verify repeat playback in the version you have installed before going live. The official Streamlabs guides describe scenes, sources, and platform connection, but do not confirm the current control for looping a local media file. Treat the repeat setting as something to check and test—not as a guaranteed checkbox or menu path.

Before you start: check YouTube Live access

  • Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
  • Install and open Streamlabs Desktop, and have the video file or webpage you plan to show ready.
  • Use a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the selected resolution and bitrate. Keep bandwidth headroom rather than planning to use all available upload speed.

YouTube lists Streamlabs among the encoders that can send a live stream. The basic setup is to create or select a YouTube stream, add and preview a source in Streamlabs, connect the encoder with the stream details, and check the result in Live Control Room.

Set up the video and connect Streamlabs

  1. Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Retrieve its stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials for an encoder; do not share or publish yours. See YouTube’s guide to streaming with an encoder.
  2. Add a video source to a Streamlabs scene. Streamlabs scenes are built from sources. Add the video source you want to use, then check its framing and audio in the preview. A local media source uses a file accessible to Streamlabs Desktop. A Browser Source displays a webpage; Streamlabs documents interacting with one, but that guide concerns recording and does not establish it as a looping method for YouTube Live. See Streamlabs Desktop quick-start guide and Streamlabs Browser Source recording guide.
  3. Connect the encoder to YouTube. If Streamlabs Desktop offers YouTube as a platform connection, select it and follow its prompts. Otherwise, enter the stream URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
  4. Find and verify repeat behavior in your installed version. Inspect the media source’s properties for a repeat or loop option, if available. The official Streamlabs pages cited here do not establish the current label or location of that control. Play the video through its end and confirm that it starts again; listen across the transition and check that the intended audio continues. If the repeat behavior is not available or reliable, do not assume the scene will loop unattended.

Choose stream settings and test the broadcast

YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Choose a resolution and bitrate suited to your upload connection and the material. YouTube’s network tips recommend leaving about 20% upload bandwidth headroom. Check the current recommendations for your selected resolution in YouTube’s live encoder settings and YouTube’s network tips, since guidance may vary by stream setup.

  1. Make a test stream using audio and motion similar to the planned program.
  2. Check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast. Confirm the correct video, framing, and audio are present.
  3. Check that the event is accessible to the intended audience and review its visibility and audience settings.
  4. During the stream, monitor audio and video quality, and verify playback continues through at least one video end-to-start transition before relying on an extended loop.

Local media or Browser Source?

A local media source plays a file that Streamlabs Desktop can access. A Browser Source displays a webpage and can be interacted with inside Streamlabs. The available Streamlabs material does not establish a reliability advantage for either approach or confirm that Browser Source is a recommended way to loop a video live. Decide based on where the video is hosted, whether playback and audio remain stable in your setup, and whether the installed source properties provide the repeat behavior you need. Test the complete end-to-start transition before broadcasting.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

  • You cannot go live: Check channel verification, any live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and whether first-time activation has completed. YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
  • YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm you selected the intended stream and entered its matching stream URL and key. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder connection.
  • The video plays once and stops: The loop control’s exact current interface is not confirmed by the cited Streamlabs guides. Recheck the source properties in your installed build and test through the end of the file; do not rely on an unattended broadcast until repeat playback works.
  • The video appears but has no sound: Check the source’s audio and Streamlabs’ audio meters in preview, then confirm sound in YouTube Live Control Room during a test.
  • The stream buffers or loses quality: Reduce the bitrate or resolution to fit the actual upload capacity, retain bandwidth headroom, and recheck YouTube’s recommended encoder settings.
  • The video or audio changes at the loop boundary: Preview the transition and adjust the media or source setup as needed. A successful initial playback does not prove that the end-to-start transition is clean.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a YouTube channel to stay live from uploaded video without leaving Streamlabs or a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Copyright and channel considerations

Before looping a documentary, soundtrack, or other recording, make sure you have the rights or permission needed to use it on YouTube. A live encoder connection does not grant rights to the video or audio. YouTube’s copyright rules and channel policies still apply to streamed material; consult YouTube Help for the current rules and check your stream for claims or restrictions.
