You can run a continuous YouTube Live playlist from a Mumbai VPS by sending a compatible video feed to YouTube over RTMPS and keeping the encoder process supervised. Before choosing a server, check its Mumbai-specific outbound transfer allowance: even a 3 Mbps stream uses about 972 GB over 30 days, before protocol overhead and other traffic.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A Linux VPS in Mumbai with enough outbound transfer, storage for your media, and resources for the encoder mode you choose.
- Video and audio that your channel has the rights to broadcast. A video being publicly viewable does not give you permission to rebroadcast it.
- An encoder and playlist process configured to send a continuous feed to YouTube.
Choose the stream settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Its guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, its advanced settings recommend 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the full ranges for your selected codec and format.
Recommended H.264 targets
YouTube’s listed recommended H.264 video bitrates include:
| Output | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommendations for the listed H.264 configurations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode them. Choose an output your connection can sustain and test the complete stream before making it public. If your source already matches the desired ingest format, you may be able to avoid CPU-intensive transcoding, but verify performance on the server you select.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Estimate monthly bandwidth before buying a VPS
A constant stream transfers data continuously. The estimates below are calculated from bitrate and time for a 30-day month; they are not provider-published usage figures and exclude protocol overhead and other traffic.
| Video bitrate | Approximate transfer per day | Approximate transfer per 30 days |
|---|---|---|
| 3 Mbps | 32.4 GB | 972 GB |
| 6 Mbps | 64.8 GB | 1,944 GB |
| 8 Mbps | 86.4 GB | 2,592 GB |
Allow extra capacity for protocol overhead, management traffic, and any other services using the VPS. If you send multiple feeds, their outbound bitrates add to the total. For an estimate based on your own media and connection, use the upload-time calculator as a planning aid.

Compare VPS plans available for Mumbai
For a continuous broadcast, compare the actual Mumbai region allowance and outbound overage terms—not just the advertised monthly price. Also check CPU and RAM for your encoder mode and enough disk space for the source playlist.
| Provider and evidence | Published plan information | What it means for a continuous stream |
|---|---|---|
| AWS Lightsail, Linux/Unix bundles with public IPv4; current figures displayed on its pricing page | $5/month with 1 TB listed transfer; $7/month with 2 TB; $12/month with 3 TB. AWS says Mumbai plans include half the displayed bundle transfer allowance. | Those figures imply 0.5 TB, 1 TB, and 1.5 TB respectively for Mumbai. Both inbound and outbound traffic count toward the allowance; AWS charges only excess outbound transfer. The $12 example’s implied 1.5 TB is above the calculated 972 GB estimate for a 3 Mbps stream before overhead, but below the approximately 1,944 GB estimate for 6 Mbps. |
| DigitalOcean Droplets; official pages reviewed for pricing and bandwidth | Plans start at $4/month, with included outbound transfer starting at 500 GiB/month depending on plan; additional Droplet outbound transfer costs $0.01/GiB. | The reviewed official pages do not establish a Mumbai region, so treat it as a pricing and transfer reference, not a verified Mumbai-location option. Confirm region availability and the current plan allowance before choosing it. |
Provider prices and allowances can change; verify the selected plan and regional terms at purchase. Do not assume a small VPS can transcode reliably without testing the exact media, resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings.

Set up YouTube Live and the VPS encoder
- Enable live streaming. If this is your first YouTube Live broadcast, request activation in YouTube Studio and allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
- Create or select a stream in Live Control Room. Copy the ingest server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send video to your broadcast. Rotate it if it is exposed.
- Prepare the playlist media. Confirm every item is authorized for broadcast, that files are available on the VPS, and that the playlist order and transitions work as intended.
- Configure the encoder. Use the YouTube server URL and key, select RTMPS where available, and set a supported codec, CBR video, an appropriate bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval (never more than four seconds). Match the audio settings to the source and YouTube’s guidance.
- Start privately or unlisted and inspect the incoming preview. Check picture, sound, bitrate, and playlist transitions in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public or leaving it unattended.
- Supervise the process. Use a service manager or equivalent process supervisor with restart behavior. Keep useful logs, monitor disk space, and arrange alerts so a stopped encoder or a full disk is not silently missed.
- Monitor YouTube and the VPS. Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages as well as the encoder process and logs. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
The official YouTube guidance explains ingest setup and encoder parameters; it does not validate a particular FFmpeg command or promise that an unattended VPS setup will recover by itself. Test the actual playlist and recovery behavior on your chosen server before relying on it.
Know what YouTube archives automatically
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on the same automatic archive behavior for broadcasts longer than 12 hours; plan how you will preserve any recording you need.

Troubleshooting a continuous VPS stream
- No preview appears in Live Control Room: check that live streaming is enabled, that the encoder is running, and that the server URL and stream key belong to the selected stream. If the key may have leaked, rotate it and update the encoder.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or the picture buffers: verify that the VPS has enough sustained outbound capacity, lower the output bitrate or resolution if needed, and check the provider’s remaining transfer allowance. Confirm the encoder is using CBR and a supported keyframe interval.
- The stream starts but stops after the VPS session ends: run the encoder under a process supervisor rather than an interactive shell, and configure restart behavior and log retention.
- The playlist freezes or fails at a transition: check file paths, permissions, available disk space, and each source file. Test the whole sequence, not just the first clip.
- The server becomes overloaded: determine whether the encoder is transcoding. A format-matched source may reduce compute requirements, but confirm by testing CPU use and stream stability at the intended settings.
- The broadcast ends or cannot be archived as expected: check the duration and YouTube’s archive behavior; streams over 12 hours are outside the automatic-archive condition stated in YouTube’s guidance.
