Usually, yes—if YouTube Studio lets you edit the replay and the trim removes every part covered by the Content ID claim. YouTube says the claim is removed after the edit finishes processing when all claimed content has been trimmed out. Its guidance applies to videos generally and does not specifically guarantee the result for live replays, so check the replay’s available Studio actions and confirm the claim status afterward.
How to trim the claimed section
- In YouTube Studio, open the replay and its claim notice, then view the claim details.
- For the relevant claim, choose Take action → Trim out segment, if that action is available.
- Adjust the start and end times to cover the claimed material. Preview the edit before saving; check the audio and video at the boundaries as well as within the selected interval.
- Choose the save-and-trim option and wait for processing to finish. Studio displays an in-progress badge and an estimated remaining time; YouTube says processing times vary.
- Reload the page and check that processing completed and the claim is gone. If any claimed portion remains, YouTube says the claim will not be removed.
YouTube’s instructions for removing claimed content are in its Remove copyright-claimed content from videos help article. That guidance does not separately establish that every live replay will expose the same editing action or produce the same outcome.
Before saving, protect the original
As of June 2025, edits saved in YouTube Studio Editor cannot be undone with the Revert to original feature. If you may need the unedited replay, download a copy or use Google Takeout before editing. You also cannot make other edits to the video while the trim is processing. These limitations and processing details are described in YouTube’s editing guidance.
First identify what kind of copyright issue you have
Content ID claim
A Content ID claim can block a video, monetize it (sometimes sharing revenue with the uploader), or track viewership. The policy may vary by geography. A claim is not itself a copyright strike, and trimming is one available way to remove claimed material when the relevant Studio action is offered. See YouTube’s explanation of Content ID claims.

Copyright removal request or strike
A copyright removal request is a legal request reviewed by YouTube. If YouTube considers it valid, it removes the content and applies a strike. A scheduled removal request gives the uploader seven days to act before removal and the strike. Do not treat trimming advice for a Content ID claim as a guaranteed fix for an active takedown or strike. YouTube explains the process in its copyright removal request guidance.
If trimming does not clear the claim
- The claim still appears after processing: Check the claim details and timestamps. A portion of claimed content may remain, including another interval not covered by the trim. YouTube says all claimed content must be removed for the claim to clear.
- The Studio action is unavailable: The cited help guidance does not guarantee that the trim action appears for every live replay. Use the options Studio actually shows for that video; do not assume a replay can be edited in the same way as every other video.
- The claim seems mistaken: Consider disputing it only if you have a valid basis, such as the necessary rights, a qualifying copyright exception, or misidentification. YouTube says the claimant generally has 30 days to respond. Giving credit, owning a copy, or choosing not to monetize are not valid reasons by themselves, and an invalid dispute can lead to a removal request. See YouTube’s dispute guidance.
- The claim concerns audio: YouTube also documents options to replace or mute claimed audio. Review the choices and their effect on the replay before applying an edit.
- You need to preserve the complete replay: Trimming changes the edited video, and the Studio Editor’s Revert to original option is no longer available for saved edits as of June 2025. Keep a separate copy before proceeding.
For future prerecorded 24/7 broadcasts
If the replay came from a prerecorded YouTube broadcast, checking that the video and audio are cleared for use before streaming can help avoid copyright issues; changing the streaming setup does not resolve an existing claim. For channels that want uploaded videos to keep looping without a home computer running, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a video or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream, and offers the first day free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
