To verify that OBS is sending to the right YouTube stream, copy the stream URL and stream key from that stream’s YouTube Studio Live Control Room, enter them in OBS, start streaming, and confirm that the incoming feed appears in YouTube’s preview. A “connected” status in OBS alone does not confirm that YouTube is receiving the intended event.
Before you troubleshoot OBS, check channel eligibility
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. These conditions apply to YouTube channels generally; the cited guidance does not describe a separate India-specific eligibility rule. Get the URL and key for the correct YouTube stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Open the intended event and its Stream tab. For a new event, create it first. If you have streamed before, YouTube may load previous stream settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key like a credential, and check that you have selected the event you mean to broadcast. Manage live stream settings
A stream key may be reused with saved stream settings; it is not safe to assume that every event has a unique key. Confirm the displayed values and the event’s privacy and schedule rather than relying on an old OBS configuration.
Enter the YouTube destination in OBS
Open OBS’s stream or encoder settings. If OBS offers a YouTube service or preset, select it and enter the key from Live Control Room. If you configure a custom server, paste YouTube’s stream URL into the server field and the key into the separate key field. OBS menu labels can vary by version, so use the fields’ purpose rather than relying on a particular menu path.

Choose RTMP or RTMPS deliberately
RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS/SSL, so it encrypts the connection. If OBS offers a YouTube RTMPS preset, you can use it. Otherwise, reveal and copy the RTMPS URL using the lock control in Live Control Room’s Stream URL field, then use that exact URL as the OBS server. YouTube may show the ordinary RTMP URL by default. Use the endpoint provided for your stream; do not substitute a generic server address. The encoder must support RTMPS. Encrypt your stream using RTMPS
Test the connection in YouTube’s preview
- Start streaming in OBS.
- Return to the intended event in Live Control Room and wait for the incoming stream status and preview.
- For a scheduled event, check the preview first. When ready to broadcast, select Go live in YouTube. Receiving an encoder feed is not the same as starting the scheduled public broadcast.
YouTube allows creators to choose public, private, or unlisted visibility. For a rehearsal, YouTube recommends trying a test live stream and says it can be set to public or unlisted before it starts; choose visibility deliberately. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend setting up two hours ahead and starting the encoder 15 minutes before the scheduled event. These are preparation recommendations, not technical requirements. If OBS will not connect or the preview is missing
OBS reports a startup or authentication error
Copy the current key from the intended stream in Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS. If you use account login rather than manually entering a key and that integration fails, YouTube advises contacting the software provider. Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream
RTMPS shows an SSL error or the connection times out
Check that you selected an RTMPS server URL and that the encoder supports RTMPS. For an SSL error, YouTube says port 443 can be tried when appropriate. Keep the actual host and path supplied by Live Control Room; do not copy a generic endpoint. Encrypt your stream using RTMPS

The key may have been exposed
Reset the key in Live Control Room and update OBS with the new one. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset a stream key; editors and viewers do not have that permission. Manage live stream settings
The feed reaches YouTube but is unstable
Check outbound upload capacity, not only download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of upload bandwidth beyond the combined bitrate of the stream. Other devices sharing the network can reduce the bandwidth available to OBS. YouTube live streaming tips

The cited YouTube setup guidance does not establish a different RTMP URL, stream-key format, or OBS procedure for Indian creators. Use the URL shown in your own Live Control Room rather than looking for a regional server address. Eligibility and account notices are channel-specific.
