To keep a channel live, use a separate encoder-based live-stream workflow and arrange for a source to provide and repeat the playlist. YouTube’s guidance covers sending an encoder feed, but does not establish playlist looping or uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
What a YouTube Premiere does
A Premiere gives an uploaded video a shared release: viewers gather around a countdown and watch it together. YouTube’s setup guidance describes the content unit as a video, not a playlist. During playback, viewers can rewind but cannot fast-forward past what has been shown live. When the Premiere ends, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload; YouTube does not describe it restarting or advancing to another playlist item. YouTube separately distinguishes live streams, which broadcast media in real time, from Premieres, where viewers watch a new video with its creator and community. A Premiere’s scheduled start does not turn it into an always-on broadcast. YouTube Help: Watch live streams.
What to use for a continuous playlist broadcast
Use an encoder-based live stream rather than a Premiere. In that setup, a source—such as suitable streaming software or hardware—sends a live feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. The source must itself play and repeat the playlist; YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how to send a feed, not how to create a playlist loop or guarantee continuous operation. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but an encoder is only one component of the setup, not a playlist player or uptime guarantee. Questions to verify before relying on it
- Can your chosen source play the intended files and repeat the playlist without manual intervention?
- Does the setup recover if the source, internet connection, encoder, or YouTube connection is interrupted?
- Does the chosen service or equipment support the runtime and operating conditions you need?
- Have you confirmed the stream URL and key in the encoder and YouTube’s live-stream settings?
The official guidance cited here does not settle those configuration and operational questions. Test the complete workflow before treating it as a 24/7 channel.
Premiere format limits to keep in mind
YouTube’s Premiere guidance says Shorts are not supported, and 360/VR180 video or output above 1080p is not supported for Premieres. These limits concern the Premiere format; they do not change the fact that a Premiere is not a continuous playlist broadcast. YouTube Help: Premiere a new video.
