Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou can schedule a YouTube livestream in YouTube Studio, but YouTube does not provide a setting that switches to a backup playlist when a media file is missing. Schedule the event in Live Control Room, configure any content fallback in your encoder or automation software, and rehearse with a file deliberately made unavailable. Test encoder or network failover separately: it protects the incoming stream feed, not the choice of video content.
Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and select Schedule stream. Reuse settings or create a new scheduled stream.
- Set the stream’s title, description, visibility and other event details. A scheduled stream may appear to subscribers as upcoming, and subscribers may opt into a reminder. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into your encoder. Treat the key as private: it is the credential that directs the encoder’s feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check that the expected video and audio are present, then select Go live at the appropriate time.
When the event is over, end it in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover connecting an encoder to a stream.
Configure missing-file handling outside YouTube
A YouTube scheduled stream accepts an incoming video feed; it does not choose an alternate playlist when a file referenced by your encoder is absent. The content fallback must be configured in the encoder or a compatible automation layer. The exact behavior depends on that software and its configuration, so do not assume that a playlist will skip an unavailable item or select a backup automatically.
Prepare the primary and fallback content
- Identify the primary media item and the clip, scene or playlist that should play if it is unavailable.
- Check that each file is readable from the machine and account that will run the encoder. Verify the actual paths rather than relying on paths from a different computer or user account.
- Determine what your chosen encoder does when a file is missing, unreadable or moved. If you need automatic switching, configure it deliberately and confirm the behavior on your setup.
Rehearse the failure you need to survive
- Use a test copy of the stream configuration, not the only copy for an imminent event.
- Make a referenced test file unavailable—for example, rename or move it—and start the stream or preview in the encoder.
- Verify what the output actually shows and whether audio continues. Confirm that the intended fallback appears rather than a blank frame, an error or a stalled source.
- Repeat for relevant cases, such as an unreadable file and a moved file. Adjust the configuration and rehearse again if the result is not the one you need.
This rehearsal is important because the documented YouTube and OBS features do not establish a universal automatic rule for substituting a backup playlist when media is missing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
OBS playlist support—and its limit
OBS documents a VLC Video source that can play media in a playlist, with options for looping or shuffling. VLC must be installed for the source to appear; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS also describes adding a playlist through its Sources guide. See the official Media Sources documentation and Sources Guide.
Those controls establish playlist playback, not guaranteed substitution of a chosen backup playlist when an entry is missing. If conditional fallback matters, record the OBS version, operating system, source type, media paths and any automation or plugin version in your test notes. Validate absent, unreadable and moved-file cases on that exact configuration.

Content fallback is not encoder failover
These solve different problems. A backup playlist or clip addresses unavailable content; a backup encoder or ingestion path addresses interruption to the stream feed. A second encoder can send a valid feed that still contains the same missing media. Conversely, a fallback clip can provide alternate content while the same encoder and network connection remain in use.
YouTube’s encoder failover guidance recommends testing by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then checking that the player rolls over to the backup encoder. Its HLS guidance provides a Backup server URL for backup ingestion. Neither is a YouTube setting for choosing alternate media. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and HLS ingestion guidance.

Timing and checks before the event
YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting them at least 15 minutes before its scheduled start. Use the lead time to confirm the scheduled stream, encoder connection, preview, sound and any configured fallback. If encoder failover is required, test that separately using YouTube’s documented failover check; do not treat a successful playlist test as proof that encoder failover works.

If your goal is to keep pre-recorded videos streaming on a YouTube channel without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo does not go live from a camera, and it does not replace the need to verify that the content you upload is available and suitable for your stream.
