Prince Harry travelled from California to the UK on 6 February 2024 to see King Charles, one day after Buckingham Palace announced that the King had been diagnosed with cancer. Harry was seen at Heathrow the next afternoon. The Associated Press described the visit as lasting scarcely 24 hours, but reports do not establish that he left exactly 24 hours after meeting his father.
What Buckingham Palace announced
On 5 February 2024, Buckingham Palace said diagnostic tests had identified cancer after a separate issue was noticed during a procedure for benign prostate enlargement. The Palace did not identify the type of cancer or disclose the King’s treatment regimen. It said he had begun regular treatment and doctors had advised him to postpone public-facing duties.
The Palace added: “Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”

The Palace’s statement prompted Harry’s trip from California to see his father. Its announcement described the cancer as “a form of cancer,” without giving further medical details.

6 February: arrival and meeting at Clarence House
Harry arrived from Los Angeles on Tuesday, 6 February, and met Charles at Clarence House. ITV News reported that Harry left the residence 45 minutes after arriving. The Associated Press described the meeting with the King as lasting less than an hour.
7 February: Harry is seen at Heathrow
Harry was seen at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday afternoon, 7 February. The Associated Press described the entire UK visit as lasting scarcely 24 hours and said Harry had flown more than 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometers) to see his father. Those are reported, approximate descriptions: the accounts establish a next-day airport sighting, not an exact departure time or a precisely measured 24-hour interval from the meeting.

What the visit does—and does not—establish
The Associated Press reported that Harry did not meet Prince William during the visit. The short meeting and brief trip are logistical facts; they do not, by themselves, establish a reconciliation or reveal what was said privately. No named individual’s public statement about the meeting appears in the contemporaneous accounts summarized here.
