You can turn a rights-cleared collection of game reviews and walkthroughs into a continuous YouTube live feed by playing the videos through an encoder or cloud streaming service and connecting that feed to YouTube Live Control Room. Plan the broadcast in sessions shorter than 12 hours if you need YouTube’s automatic archive: YouTube warns that longer streams may not be captured at all. Keep a separate local recording, verify the full feed before launch, and check rights for gameplay, game audio, music, commentary, and other material.
Before you build the feed: confirm eligibility and rights
Enable live streaming in advance
Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so check it before the day you intend to broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance and encoder setup instructions.
Clear every element in the archive
Do not assume that owning or having uploaded a game review or walkthrough means you can rebroadcast it continuously. Check the applicable game publisher policies and confirm you have the necessary rights for the footage, captured game audio, soundtrack, commentary, and any clips, music, or other third-party material in each video. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace the feed with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the stream when it detects such content. If you are licensed to use material but a stream is interrupted, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” This is a statement of YouTube’s terms, not legal advice. Prepare a continuous playlist
Choose and order the videos
Make an ordered set of the reviews and walkthroughs you are authorized to stream. Check the start and end of each recording, audio levels, aspect ratio, and any long gaps or dead air. Decide whether videos should play in a fixed sequence or repeat as a loop. You need a playback system that can feed a live encoder, or a cloud service that can play uploaded videos; YouTube’s guidance describes encoder workflows but does not require a particular playlist automation tool.
Choose where playback and encoding will run
A self-hosted encoder gives you local control, but the computer and playback/encoding process must remain running and connected for the feed to continue. A cloud-managed service avoids depending on a home computer, but adds dependence on that service. YouTube’s encoder directory includes both software or hardware encoders and cloud services; it is a directory of third-party options, not an endorsement or confirmation of their terms. Compare a service’s current ability to loop prerecorded videos, pricing, availability, and operating details before relying on it.

For a self-hosted setup, prepare your playback system to output the archive sequence as a single live video-and-audio feed. Keep the source files and a separate recording destination available. For either approach, avoid exposing the YouTube stream key in a public playlist, screenshot, recording, or shared configuration.
Connect the feed to YouTube Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream. Use Live Control Room to create or schedule the broadcast. Follow the encoder workflow in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not show it on screen or include it in publicly shared materials.
- Start the archive playback and encoder, then inspect the preview. Check that the intended video and audio are reaching Live Control Room before you make the stream public.
- Test the viewer path. Open the watch page as a viewer and confirm that it loads and plays. Check the picture, sound, and transitions between videos, and confirm that the local recording file is being written and growing.
- Start the public session only after the checks pass. Keep monitoring the live feed and local recording during operation. YouTube recommends bandwidth headroom, preview checks, local archive checks, and ongoing audio/video monitoring in its streaming tips.
Keep sessions short enough to protect YouTube’s archive
If you need YouTube’s automatic archive, schedule individual sessions for less than 12 hours. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Automatic archiving is not a guarantee, even for a shorter session. To keep the channel running beyond one session, plan to end and restart the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours. That creates operational work or requires reliable automation. Do not assume viewers will experience a seamless transition between sessions: the cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted playback across a restart. Retain a separate local recording as your backup rather than relying on the platform archive alone.
Protect and organize the recordings
Check the local backup
Confirm that the recording file is actually growing while the broadcast runs, and check the finished file after each session. Preserve enough storage for the intended bitrate and retention period; estimate capacity from the recording bitrate, session length, and number of sessions you plan to keep. An external SSD is one possible backup destination, but the capacity you need depends on those choices.

Arrange the finished archive
After each session, review the resulting YouTube archive and organize it with related highlights or clips in playlists. YouTube recommends arranging livestream archives and highlight clips into playlists; see YouTube’s playlist guidance.

- You cannot start a live stream: check that the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and there is no current restriction. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
- The preview is blank or shows the wrong video: verify that the playback system is producing a feed, that the encoder is using the intended source, and that the correct stream URL and key are configured.
- Viewers cannot watch the feed: open the watch page separately and check its availability and playback. A preview in the control room alone does not confirm the viewer path.
- The broadcast is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: investigate possible third-party-content detection. Review rights for every component, including game soundtrack and captured audio; if the content is licensed, ask the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- The YouTube archive is missing: check whether the session exceeded 12 hours. YouTube warns that a longer stream may not be captured. Use planned shorter sessions and keep the local recording.
- The local backup is incomplete: verify that the recording destination has space and that the file is growing during the session; inspect the finished file before relying on it.
- Audio or video degrades during the stream: monitor the feed continuously and check available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends 20% upload bandwidth headroom as guidance, not as a guaranteed threshold for success.
