You can technically send a continuous League of Legends video feed to YouTube, but do not start by setting up the encoder: first establish that you have permission to stream every match recording, its audio, and any other included material. Riot’s fan-use policy specifically warns against simply reusing esports matches or other players’ VODs with only light commentary. A 24/7 replay loop is therefore not a reliably approved or monetizable plan just because the video can be streamed.
Can you run a 24/7 League of Legends VOD stream on YouTube?
Technically, yes: YouTube supports encoder-based live streams, and its encoder information also lists a cloud service for continuous prerecorded-video streaming. But technical ability is not permission. Riot Games’ Legal Jibber Jabber policy says, “Don’t just rip off or add some light commentary to existing content (e.g., esports matches, other players’ vods).” Riot’s Terms of Service treat game recordings and broadcasts as Game Content and restrict their use except as Riot expressly permits.
Those are general rules, not a decision about a particular match, event, recording, territory, or channel. Before streaming, identify the rights holder for each recording and check the applicable permissions and event rules. A recording made by a player, an esports broadcast, its commentary, music, graphics, and other embedded material may involve different rights. Keep written permission and the relevant terms with the files. Riot’s terms also note that regional publisher terms can differ.
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights needed to exploit the livestream, including music rights. YouTube also scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. It may warn you to stop streaming third-party material, and a stream can be terminated after copyright or Community Guidelines strikes. An encoder, a cloud playout service, or a YouTube listing does not grant footage rights.

What to settle before you build the stream
1. Make a rights inventory
For every file, record what it contains and where it came from: the match video, broadcast audio, music, graphics, and commentary. Identify who controls each relevant right, check any event-specific broadcast restrictions, and retain the permissions that apply. Do not assume that a video being publicly available, or a player having uploaded it, means it can be rebroadcast.
2. Make the format meaningfully original
Do not build the premise around a repeating playlist of match footage with only light commentary. Riot’s policy sets limits on reuse, while YouTube separately evaluates reused material for meaningful original commentary, substantial modification, or educational or entertainment value. A stream that merely repeats content is also a poor fit under YouTube’s rules against repetitive or mass-produced monetized content.

Substantial analysis or educational commentary may give viewers a real reason to watch, but it does not itself resolve copyright or licensing. Rights clearance and originality are separate questions. On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it was renaming its repetitious-content policy to “inauthentic content” and clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization; YouTube said its reused-content policy was not changing. Do not assume that a licensed video automatically qualifies for monetization, or that original commentary grants permission to use the underlying recording.
3. Decide whether 24-hour sessions suit your archive needs
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If keeping an archive matters, make a local recording and plan for sessions shorter than 12 hours rather than assuming a continuous 24-hour broadcast will be saved. Separate sessions can help you manage duration, but YouTube does not promise that a particular schedule guarantees complete archives.

Set up a rights-cleared stream with an encoder
The steps below describe YouTube’s encoder workflow. Labels can vary by encoder, so use its current instructions for entering the stream URL and key. Configure the project only after you have resolved the rights and format questions above.
- Prepare the permitted video. Assemble only recordings and other material you are authorized to stream. If you plan to retain an archive, configure a local recording as well as the YouTube output.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and choose the relevant stream settings there.
- Connect the encoder. Copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in a public recording or screenshot.
- Check the preview before going live. Start sending the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the intended video and audio are present and that the stream is reaching YouTube before starting the broadcast.
- Start and monitor the stream. Watch the feed for picture or audio problems, outages, and YouTube alerts. Keep a local recording if you need an archive or a recovery copy.
- End or rotate sessions deliberately. If YouTube archives or rewind matter, avoid treating a single session longer than 12 hours as a dependable way to preserve either. Check the resulting archive rather than assuming it was saved completely.
Encoder settings: use the values YouTube gives your setup
The cited YouTube guidance establishes the stream URL/key, preview, monitoring, and local-recording workflow, but it does not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval for every encoder and connection. Do not copy a setting from an unrelated setup and assume it fits yours. Use the current recommendations shown for your stream and encoder, then verify the actual feed in Live Control Room before relying on it for a long session.

Plan for failures and monetization separately
Continuity and recovery
A continuous broadcast needs someone or something to detect a bad feed or an outage and respond. Monitor video and audio quality and keep local recording enabled if losing an archive would matter. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring stream quality and checking local archive files; it does not promise that an individual session will remain online or be archived in full.
Monetization
Riot allows passive ad revenue for some qualifying individual community projects, subject to its policy and originality conditions; that is not blanket permission to rebroadcast esports footage. YouTube’s monetization rules apply independently, including its reused-content and inauthentic-content policies. Eligibility and revenue cannot be promised for a particular channel or format.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube warns about third-party content or stops the stream: stop the broadcast and review the flagged material. Confirm that your permissions cover the specific video and embedded audio; changing encoders does not resolve a rights issue.
- The stream does not appear in the preview: check that the encoder is using the stream URL and key from the intended Live Control Room stream, and that it is actively sending. Keep the key private; if you think it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The picture or sound is wrong: inspect the encoder output and the Live Control Room preview, then check your local recording. YouTube’s setup guidance calls for monitoring stream quality; do not assume a successful connection means the feed looks or sounds right.
- The 24-hour broadcast has no complete archive or rewind: YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond that duration. Keep a local recording and design shorter sessions if preserving playback matters.
- The channel is not monetized or loses monetization: review rights, originality, reused-content, and inauthentic-content requirements independently. A permission to use footage does not by itself establish monetization eligibility.
