For a modest live OBS production, an Intel N100 mini PC is a reasonable low-power starting point to investigate—not a proven 24/7 winner. Intel rates the N100 at 6 W TDP, but that is the processor specification, not the power draw of the complete computer. If your channel only loops uploaded videos or a playlist, you may not need an always-on PC at all: a cloud service can handle that prerecorded workflow.
First decide what your 24/7 stream needs to do
Use a local mini PC for live production
A mini PC running OBS makes sense when the broadcast depends on a live camera, gameplay, a capture device, screen capture, overlays, filters, or a locally composed scene. The computer must stay on, connected, and capable of encoding the actual scene for as long as you want to broadcast.
Consider cloud looping for prerecorded video
If the stream consists only of uploaded recordings or a playlist, a local encoder may be unnecessary. StreamNeo describes a workflow where you upload a video or create a playlist, connect your YouTube stream key, and start a cloud broadcast. That does not replace a local OBS setup for a camera, gameplay, capture source, or live compositing. See StreamNeo.
A reasonable mini PC starting point: Intel N100
ASUS NUC 14 Essential with N100
ASUS lists an Intel N100 configuration for the NUC 14 Essential. Intel specifies the N100 as a four-core, four-thread processor with 6 W TDP, Quick Sync Video, and 4K-at-60-Hz output support. These are processor and product specifications, not evidence that the complete mini PC draws only 6 W, that it will encode every OBS scene smoothly, or that a particular unit has been proven reliable around the clock.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Treat an N100 machine such as the ASUS as a candidate for a modest stream, not a tested winner. Before buying, check the exact SKU, operating system, memory and storage included, warranty, seller, and availability in your region. Intel cautions that capabilities can vary by complete system configuration and that performance depends on use and configuration.
Verify the encoder in your actual setup
A processor family name alone does not confirm which OBS hardware encoders will be available. Confirm that your operating system, graphics drivers, and OBS version expose the intended encoder, then test it with the stream settings and scene you plan to use. Hardware encoding can take work away from CPU-only software encoding, but it does not remove the need to test the whole system.

Choose the computer for the workload, not just the spec sheet
OBS says its CPU needs vary considerably with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; meeting basic system requirements does not guarantee that a system can stream or record the intended content. Its system requirements guidance suggests using the Auto Configuration Wizard as a starting point.
Set your intended resolution, frame rate, codec, audio, scene sources, and overlays before comparing machines. A single simple source is a different workload from multiple animated overlays, browser sources, filters, and concurrent applications.

Buying checklist
- Confirm that your stream is live/local production rather than just a loop of uploaded content.
- Check the exact mini PC configuration and that OBS can use the hardware encoder you intend to use with its operating system and drivers.
- Consider wired networking, cooling and noise, warranty and regional support, and how the computer will restart and reconnect after interruptions.
- Test representative motion, audio, overlays, and other applications before relying on the machine unattended.
- Run an extended test and verify recovery after a restart or network interruption. A spec sheet alone cannot establish round-the-clock reliability.
Set OBS and YouTube for a stable ingest
- Configure the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and select the encoder workflow. Copy the stream key into OBS’s streaming settings; treat the key as a password and do not share it.
- Choose a supported output configuration. YouTube’s live encoder settings list RTMP/RTMPS ingest and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 codecs, with frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Set bitrate and rate control. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR). Its guidance recommends 17 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p60 and 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. Those are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a promise that a particular PC can encode the scene or that the network will sustain it. The recommended bitrate varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- Set keyframes. Use a two-second keyframe interval as YouTube recommends, and do not exceed four seconds.
- Check upload capacity. Run an internet speed test and leave adequate upload headroom beyond the stream bitrate, especially if other devices share the connection.
- Test the real scene before depending on it. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the intended broadcast. Watch OBS load and YouTube’s stream-health indicators while representative content is running.
Measure the cost of running the whole PC
Use a plug-in power meter to measure the complete mini PC under the real streaming workload; CPU TDP and a brief idle reading are not substitutes. To estimate electricity cost, use:
Average whole-system watts ÷ 1,000 × 24 × 365 × local price per kWh.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
This estimates annual energy cost if the measured average is representative of continuous operation. Compare the result with the purchase price, any needed peripherals, and the machine’s warranty and replacement risk. No directly comparable whole-system power measurements, thermal or noise comparisons, or 24/7 endurance tests are established here for the named candidate, and local street prices and availability vary.
