Restream is the more direct choice if you want to upload a recording, schedule it to YouTube, and replay it automatically within a defined limit. Its documented loop feature allows up to 10 plays and a maximum 40-hour stream. Switchboard Live can relay prerecorded video from a separate compatible encoder, but its cited documentation does not establish hosted scheduling or native looping for those files. For an ongoing YouTube loop beyond Restream’s documented limit, StreamNeo is a cloud-based alternative built for always-on playback.
Which service fits your prerecorded YouTube loop?
| Decision | Switchboard Live | Restream |
|---|---|---|
| Where playback happens | A separate compatible encoder plays and sends the video; Switchboard relays the feed and says it does not store prerecorded videos. | Restream hosts the file in its Upload & Stream scheduled-event workflow. |
| Scheduled start | The cited FAQ does not establish scheduled prerecorded playback. Switchboard’s homepage labels Scheduled Start/Stop “Coming Soon.” | A scheduled prerecorded event starts automatically at its selected time, even if you are offline. |
| Repeat behavior | The cited FAQ does not document a native repeat count for prerecorded video. | Up to 10 plays, with a maximum 40-hour stream; looping is documented for Marathon and Media add-ons. |
| Destinations | Up to 30 destinations per workflow, according to Switchboard’s FAQ. | Users select channels during event setup; Restream’s pricing FAQ describes streaming to 30+ social channels and custom RTMP. |
| Best fit for this use | A producer who already has an encoder that can play the recording and wants Switchboard’s destination management. | A creator who wants the recording hosted, scheduled, and repeated within Restream’s documented limits. |
For a finite scheduled event, Restream’s workflow is simpler: the service hosts the video and starts the event at the chosen time. Switchboard is an encoder-driven option rather than a documented hosted prerecorded-video scheduler. Neither service’s cited documentation proves uninterrupted, indefinite 24/7 playback from one video.
How Restream schedules and loops a recording
- Create a stream: In Restream, start a new stream and choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Video.
- Select the recording: Choose an uploaded or previously recorded file, or upload the video.
- Set the event: Enter its title, description, date, and time. You can also set a thumbnail and, where available, the loop count.
- Choose channels: Select YouTube and any other intended destinations, then create the event. Restream’s guide says YouTube supports an advance event post.
- Confirm the end-platform action: Some channels can still require a manual Go Live action on the platform after Restream starts. The guide names TikTok and Instagram as examples; it says YouTube supports an advance event post.
Looping is bounded: Restream documents up to 10 repetitions and a maximum 40-hour stream. Its scheduling guide says looping is available on Marathon and Media add-ons; its separate help page describes looping as a paid feature. A playlist does not itself support looping. Restream’s looping guide says to duplicate videos in a playlist instead, subject to a 40-video playlist limit.
What Switchboard Live requires
- Prepare a playback-capable encoder. Switchboard’s FAQ names OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio as tools that support streaming prerecorded video.
- Configure its workflow. Each Switchboard workflow has its own server URL and stream key. Connect the encoder to the workflow using RTMP, which the FAQ identifies as its currently supported ingest protocol.
- Start playback from the encoder. The encoder, not Switchboard’s multistream layer, selects and plays the prerecorded file.
- Send the feed to destinations. Switchboard’s FAQ says a workflow can include up to 30 destinations.
Switchboard states that it does not store prerecorded videos and that streams are not stored or archived by the service. The cited FAQ does not document a native repeat count or hosted scheduling for prerecorded playback. Its FAQ was last updated 11 months before it was accessed on 2026-10-03, so confirm current capabilities if those details are decisive.

Choose by workflow and duration
- Choose Restream for a hosted, scheduled prerecorded event when a maximum 40-hour broadcast and up to 10 plays meet the need.
- Choose Switchboard when you already want a compatible encoder to play the file and need its destination-management workflow; do not assume the cited documentation provides native hosted looping.
- For ongoing 24/7 YouTube playback from uploaded videos, compare a cloud looping service such as StreamNeo rather than treating either documented workflow above as indefinite playback.
These are comparisons of vendor documentation, not hands-on reliability tests. They do not establish eligibility for a particular YouTube channel, behavior for a specific recording, or uninterrupted performance over a long broadcast.
