To air recorded Punjabi podcast episodes in order on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio with its VLC Video Source: add the episode files to a playlist, turn shuffle off, and enable looping if you want the queue to repeat. OBS plays the files; YouTube receives the live feed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API can manage broadcast and stream resources, but it does not play or queue your local episodes.
Choose the right kind of broadcast
A queued episode feed is prerecorded audio and video sent through a live encoder. It is not a live recording, and it does not by itself create live conversation with viewers. Decide whether you want one continuous feed or a separate scheduled YouTube event for each episode:
- Continuous feed: Keep one encoder output running and let the playlist proceed from episode to episode, optionally repeating. This suits a recurring 24/7 or long-running channel feed.
- Separate episode events: Schedule distinct broadcasts if each episode needs its own start time and separate event/archive. YouTube’s API guide describes both recurring distinct broadcasts that reuse a stream and a continuous feed that can coexist with separate broadcast videos.
YouTube describes the event resource this way: “A broadcast represents an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens.” The incoming feed configuration is a separate liveStream resource. The distinction matters: YouTube handles the event and incoming stream, while OBS or another playout service must supply the episodes. See the YouTube broadcasts and streams guide.
Check eligibility, files, and rights first
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming help says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. These requirements can change, so check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio before building a schedule. Live content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and help page.

Prepare the episode queue
- Use episode files and any music, clips, or other material that the channel is authorized to livestream. A podcast’s permission to publish an episode does not automatically establish that every included track or clip is cleared for a live broadcast.
- Arrange the files in the exact order you want them to air. Keep a separate written copy of the order so you can rebuild the playlist if the source or scene is changed.
- Play each file locally before adding it. Check that the expected picture and sound are present and that the file reaches its intended end.
- Decide whether the final episode should stop the feed or return to the first episode. That choice determines whether playlist looping should be enabled.
Build an ordered playlist in OBS
OBS Studio’s documented VLC Video Source can play multiple media items as a playlist. VLC must be installed for the source to appear. OBS lists the source as available on Windows, macOS, and Linux; exact interface details may differ by OBS version. The documented controls establish playlist behavior, not unattended reliability. See the OBS Project Media Sources documentation.
- Install VLC, then open OBS. Install VLC on the same computer as OBS before looking for the VLC Video Source.
- Add the playlist source. In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video Source. Give the source a clear name, such as “Punjabi episode queue.” If the option is missing, check that VLC is installed and restart OBS.
- Add files in play order. In the source’s properties, add the episode files to the playlist in the sequence you want. Review the list from top to bottom before you confirm it.
- Set repeat behavior. Leave shuffle off to preserve the listed order. Enable playlist looping only if the queue should start again after the last item; leave it off if the feed should reach the end instead.
- Fit the source to the canvas. Select the source in the preview and use OBS’s fit-to-screen transform if needed. Confirm that the picture is not cropped and that the source is visible in the active scene.
- Check the full sequence. Preview transitions between files, verify audio levels and synchronization, and confirm that the final file behaves as intended. Test the complete path before making the YouTube broadcast public.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or select the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, create the live event or use an existing one. Set its title, schedule, and privacy status deliberately; use a private or unlisted test when appropriate.
- Get the stream settings from YouTube Studio. Copy the stream key and any delivery settings YouTube provides. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a screen recording, or share it with anyone who should not be able to transmit to the channel.
- Configure OBS for the stream. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key or connect using the option shown in your OBS version. Use the server and encoder settings specified by YouTube Studio for the event.
- Start with a preview or private test. Start streaming from OBS and verify in YouTube Studio that the incoming feed appears with the expected picture and sound. Confirm the event is using the right stream key before going public.
- Go live and monitor the handoff. Start the YouTube broadcast when ready. Watch the transition from one episode to the next and have a person or recovery plan available for encoder, network, or file-playback interruptions.
YouTube’s API can also create a scheduled event with liveBroadcasts.insert, including a title, scheduled start time, and privacy status; the stream resource carries transmission settings and can be bound as required. That automates event setup, not file playout. An encoder or hosted playout service is still needed to read and transmit the episode queue. See the YouTube API implementation guide and YouTube Live Streaming API reference.

Choose between a local playlist and scheduled hosted video
OBS with VLC is the documented option here for a multi-file ordered queue. A hosted prerecorded-video feature can be simpler when the need is to air one episode at a chosen time, but do not assume it supports an editable chain of episodes in one continuous broadcast.
| Approach | Queue and operation | Best fit | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio with VLC Video Source | Multiple local files in an ordered playlist; shuffle and looping controls are documented. The local encoder and media files must be available. | A continuous or repeatable queue when an operator can maintain the encoder. | OBS documents playlist controls and Windows, macOS, and Linux availability; it does not promise unattended recovery. |
| StreamYard scheduled prerecorded video | Documentation describes selecting a prerecorded video for a scheduled stream that starts at the chosen time and ends when that video finishes. It also describes plan-specific maximum durations. | A single episode scheduled to air without running a local encoder. | The reviewed documentation does not establish multi-episode playlist playout inside one scheduled continuous broadcast. Confirm current plan limits and feature support before relying on it. See StreamYard’s prerecorded streaming help and scheduling guide. |
Troubleshoot common queue problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC on the computer running OBS, then restart OBS. The source depends on VLC.
- Episodes play in the wrong order: Review the playlist order and make sure shuffle is off. Reorder the files in the source properties and test the transition.
- The queue repeats when it should stop, or stops when it should repeat: Check the playlist loop setting. Looping controls whether playback returns to the start after the last item.
- YouTube does not show an incoming feed: Check that OBS is streaming, the correct event and stream key are selected, and the stream settings match those provided by YouTube Studio. A separate API-created broadcast does not itself transmit media.
- Video appears but audio is missing or wrong: Preview the relevant file in OBS, check the source and scene, and verify audio before going public. Test transitions too; a queue can contain files with different audio behavior.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Check the computer, OBS, network, and media-file availability. The reviewed OBS and YouTube API documentation does not promise automatic recovery, so arrange an operator or another recovery plan.
- A scheduled event cannot go live: Recheck channel verification and current eligibility in YouTube Studio, including whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction.
- A copyright claim or restriction appears: Stop and review the affected material and the channel’s rights to livestream it. Do not assume that permission to publish a podcast episode covers every music track, clip, or other included work.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep airing uploaded episodes without leaving a home computer or encoder on, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload an episode or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed.

For an ordered multi-episode feed, the practical division is straightforward: OBS with VLC handles local playout, while YouTube handles the live event and incoming feed. Use a hosted scheduled-video feature only when its documented single-video behavior matches the need. Before publishing, verify channel eligibility, confirm rights for every item, and test the whole episode sequence and audio path.
