Schedule a separate YouTube Live event for each season premiere, episode, or other live podcast event in YouTube Studio. Give each event a clear season-and-episode title, but if your show is set up as a YouTube podcast, keep all seasons in the same podcast playlist. YouTube’s guidance says: “If your podcast has multiple seasons, include them in the same podcast.”
Schedule a separate live event for each season or episode
A scheduled live stream creates its own upcoming watch page and event details. It is separate from the podcast playlist, which organizes the show’s episode videos. You do not need a new channel, a separate podcast designation, or a new stream key just because a new season is starting.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open the Live Control Room.
- Open Manage and select Schedule stream.
- Choose Create new for a new event. If a prior stream has useful settings, choose Reuse settings instead. YouTube says this copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key.
- Set the event’s title, description, thumbnail, date and time, and visibility. Review every copied value before scheduling; do not assume the previous event’s details are right for this season.
- Publish or schedule the event, then share its watch page with viewers.
Make the event easy to identify
Put the show name, season, episode number, and topic in the title. For example: Show Name — Season 2, Episode 1 — How We Documented the Expedition. This is a practical naming convention, not a required YouTube format. Use the description to explain what the event covers and whether it is a premiere, discussion, or live recording.
Help viewers find the scheduled stream
YouTube says scheduled streams may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming; viewers can open the watch page and select Notify me. Scheduling is useful for promoting a known event, but it does not itself guarantee that every subscriber will see a notification.

Keep podcast seasons in one podcast playlist
YouTube represents a podcast as a playlist, with its episodes as videos. For a show designated as a YouTube podcast, put full-length episodes from every season in that same podcast playlist, in listening order. Do not create a separate podcast designation for each season. YouTube’s current creator guidance also allows ordinary playlists for season navigation or clips, but says not to add podcast features to those additional playlists.

Choose between a fresh event and reused settings
Create new
Choose Create new when the new event needs substantially different settings or you want to build it without inherited metadata. Enter and check all event details before scheduling.

Reuse settings
Choose Reuse settings when the previous event is a useful template. Because YouTube copies metadata, settings, and the stream key, check the title, description, thumbnail, date and time, visibility, and any other settings that should change. Reusing a stream key is not inherently required for every season, nor does a season change by itself require a new one.
Connect an encoder only if your production uses one
If you send the live feed with an encoder, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key from the event’s setup and enter them in the encoder. YouTube describes the stream key as the password/address that tells YouTube where the encoder sends the feed. Treat it as a credential: do not share it publicly. The season organization itself does not require an encoder or special hardware; this step applies only to an encoder-based production.

Find and manage scheduled events
In YouTube Studio, open Content > Live to find current, upcoming, and past streams. You can also select scheduled events from the Live Control Room’s Manage tab and launch them there. Studio labels and availability can change, so check the controls shown in your account when publishing.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Making every season a separate podcast: Keep seasons together in the same podcast playlist; use ordinary playlists for optional season-specific browsing.
- Leaving copied details unchanged: Reused settings can retain the old title, schedule, description, thumbnail, visibility, and key. Review the new event before scheduling.
- Confusing the event with the episode catalog: The live event creates a scheduled watch page; the podcast playlist organizes episode videos. One does not replace the other.
- Sharing the stream key: Enter it only in the encoder or workflow that needs it, and protect it as a credential.
