Choose a resolution and video bitrate your upload connection can sustain: YouTube recommends 4 Mbps for 720p30 or 5 Mbps for 1080p30, plus about 20% upload headroom beyond the stream’s total bitrate. These are starting settings, not a guarantee that OBS will run unattended without interruption.
Recommended OBS settings for a bhajan stream
For a simple visual paired with stereo music, 720p30 is a sensible lower-bandwidth starting point; use 1080p30 if the visual benefits from the extra clarity and your connection has stable capacity. YouTube’s recommendations are for encoder delivery, not a measurement of your particular network or computer.

For the same simple visual, 720p30 uses a recommended 4 Mbps video bitrate and 1080p30 uses 5 Mbps. Do not assume the higher setting is more reliable; the better choice is the one your connection sustains consistently. YouTube transcodes incoming streams into multiple playback formats, so you choose the ingest quality rather than encoding every viewer rendition yourself. Prepare YouTube and OBS before going live
1. Confirm your channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days to livestream. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so check access before planning a broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips for computers.

2. Create an encoder stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream using an encoder.
- Set the title and visibility. YouTube’s scheduled-stream controls include public, private, and unlisted options, as well as DVR and latency controls.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming configuration. Use RTMPS when available.
The stream key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it like a password: do not share it or show it on screen, and reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed. YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains the controls.
3. Set the encoder and audio
In OBS, select the YouTube service and configure the stream using the values in the table. OBS labels and menus can vary by version, so use its current streaming and audio options rather than relying on a version-specific path. Set H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Choose 720p30 at 4 Mbps or 1080p30 at 5 Mbps as a starting video profile.

4. Check upload capacity and preview
Make sure the available upload rate exceeds the total stream bitrate, with YouTube’s recommended roughly 20% margin. A speed-test result is not a promise of sustained capacity during a long broadcast, especially on a shared connection. Send a test stream, confirm it appears correctly in YouTube’s preview, listen for clean audio at appropriate levels, and watch the stream health indicators before making it public. YouTube specifically advises testing before starting and monitoring quality.
Make a playlist suitable for a long broadcast
Use music and visuals you have the right to broadcast, and test the actual media path you intend to use. Confirm that audio is present, levels are steady, and the video behaves as expected when one item ends and another begins. The official guidance cited here does not establish a particular OBS playlist-source configuration or a restart method that guarantees continuous playback; test your chosen setup and monitor it rather than assuming one setting prevents gaps.

Plan for active oversight. YouTube advises creators to monitor audio and video quality, and no encoder setting alone guarantees zero downtime or unattended operation. OBS’s official Knowledge Base provides current streaming and audio support material, but the available sources do not establish a specific nonstop playlist recipe or maximum stream duration for this scenario.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. Rights should cover both the sound recording and the underlying composition for the territories and uses you intend.

If you have licensed third-party music, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting.
Troubleshoot common stream problems
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Check that OBS is using the correct stream URL and current key, that the stream has been created in YouTube Studio, and that the channel is eligible to livestream. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
- The stream buffers or loses health: Lower the video bitrate or choose 720p30, then verify that total bitrate stays within sustainable upload capacity with headroom. Pause other high-bandwidth activity where possible.
- Video appears but there is no sound: Check that the intended audio source is active in OBS, the meter moves during playback, and the stream output is configured for stereo AAC. Verify sound in the YouTube preview before going live.
- Music is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: YouTube may have detected third-party content. Confirm that your rights cover the composition and recording and, if licensed, request Content ID allowlisting from the owner.
- The playlist stops or has a gap: Test the transitions and playback behavior in the exact configuration you plan to use. The official sources do not substantiate a setting that guarantees OBS will automatically restart or play forever.
