Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo broadcast a nonstop nature-video playlist on YouTube, loop the video files in an encoder such as OBS, then send that encoded feed to YouTube Live using your stream URL and stream key. A regular YouTube playlist does not turn itself into a live broadcast. For a local OBS setup, use a VLC Video source for multiple files or a Media Source for one long file, match the output settings to your footage and upload capacity, and test the stream before relying on it.
What you need for a continuous nature-video live stream
The workflow has two parts: a playback source that repeats your footage, and an encoder that sends the resulting video and audio to YouTube. OBS can do both on a computer, but the computer and its internet connection must remain available while the broadcast runs.
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- OBS Studio and, if you are using its VLC Video source, VLC installed on the computer.
- Nature footage and audio you have permission to stream. Check rights for the video, music, ambient recordings and any other included material.
- A stable internet connection with upload capacity for the encoder’s chosen bitrate.
YouTube’s live-stream guidance and eligibility details are in YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Choose how OBS will repeat the footage
| OBS source | Use it for | Loop setting and tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One long nature-video file | Enable the source’s Loop option. It is straightforward for a single file, not a multi-file playlist. |
| VLC Video source | Several files played as a playlist | Add the files to the source and enable Loop Playlist. Shuffle Playlist is optional if you do not need a fixed sequence. VLC must be installed. |
These are different OBS source types with separate controls. For multiple documentaries or scenes, use VLC Video rather than adding a single Media Source and expecting it to cycle through a list. OBS documents the controls in its Media Sources guide.

Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
Set up an OBS playlist and connect it to YouTube Live
- Activate live streaming and open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, use Create → Go live. If you have not enabled live streaming before, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or select the live stream. Choose the stream’s title, visibility and other details in Live Control Room. Decide whether you are setting up a scheduled broadcast or a stream to start when the encoder connects.
- Add the playback source in OBS. In the Sources box, select +, then choose VLC Video for a playlist. Add your authorized files, arrange them in the desired order, and enable Loop Playlist. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if a randomized order suits the program. For one file instead, add a Media Source and enable its Loop option.
- Make the picture fit the canvas. Check that the source fills the OBS canvas without unwanted cropping or black bars. Keep the output resolution and frame rate appropriate to the source; upscaling low-resolution footage does not create additional detail.
- Copy the connection details from YouTube. In Live Control Room, find the stream’s encoder setup and copy the Stream URL and Stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service if offered, and enter or connect the stream credentials according to the current OBS interface.
- Keep the key private. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your stream’s password and address.” Do not share or publish it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS. See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- Configure output and start a test. Set the encoder, bitrate, frame rate and keyframe interval, then start streaming from OBS. Wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public or sharing it.
Choose encoder settings for stable nature footage
There is no universally correct bitrate: the right value depends on codec, resolution and frame rate, and your connection must sustain the outgoing upload. YouTube automatically detects resolution and frame rate by default and transcodes a live stream into different output formats for viewers. Consult its current live encoder settings and select the row for the codec you actually use.
Practical H.264 SDR reference values
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 figures in its current encoder table, not minimums or guarantees of uninterrupted streaming. If your upload cannot sustain the selected rate, choose a lower resolution or frame rate and test. The same table gives distinct settings for H.265 and AV1; do not apply the H.264 figures to a different codec.

Other settings to check
- Rate control: YouTube recommends CBR for the listed encoder settings.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s guidance supports up to 60 fps. Match the footage and available upload capacity rather than choosing the maximum by default.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3 as supported by the selected encoder workflow, and check that the correct OBS audio source is active.
- Transport: Use RTMPS when supported by your encoder and setup. YouTube recommends this encrypted extension of RTMP. RTMP can be a compatibility path, but it is not encrypted in transit in the same way.
- Dynamic range: Use ordinary SDR unless the footage and complete workflow are intentionally configured for HDR.
Test and monitor the broadcast
Before leaving a nature stream unattended, test it with representative footage: include the amount of motion, scene changes and audio that viewers will actually hear. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview, stream health and audio/video quality, then monitoring the live feed.
- Confirm the files advance and the playlist returns to the beginning when it reaches the end.
- Check that the preview shows the intended crop, resolution and frame rate, and that audio is audible without clipping or an unintended silent track.
- Watch OBS for dropped frames and YouTube’s stream-health feedback for connection or ingest warnings.
- Check again after the stream is live; a successful preview does not guarantee that a long-running stream will never encounter a source, computer or network interruption.
For YouTube’s testing and monitoring guidance, see Live encoder settings and Get started with live streaming.

Plan around replays and viewer rewind
A 24/7 broadcast is not necessarily one complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full program matters, record a local backup and plan shorter broadcast segments rather than relying on one continuous archive. See YouTube Help: Find or edit your past live streams.
DVR can let viewers pause and rewind a live stream, but YouTube warns that DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers a particular rewind window on a very long broadcast. Details are in YouTube Help: Use DVR on live streams.

When to use a local encoder or a cloud service
OBS gives you direct control over a local playlist and encoder, but it depends on a computer and home upload connection staying available. YouTube’s verified-encoder information describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos; that listing alone does not establish its price, reliability or comparative suitability. For another cloud option, StreamNeo is #1 to try for this use: it keeps uploaded videos looping to YouTube from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your nature video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Same product on every plan; only the billing length changes. For a recurring nature playlist, check the rights to every video and audio track before uploading. Start your free StreamNeo day.
