Start with 720p (1280×720) at 30 frames per second, using H.264 if your PC can encode it smoothly and your upload connection can sustain the stream. This is a practical starting point for a mostly static or slow-moving bhajan visual—not an official YouTube preset for devotional streams or a result from PC testing. If your computer struggles, test 480p30 instead. For a nonstop broadcast, stable video matters more than a resolution that causes dropped frames or interruptions.
Why 720p30 is a sensible starting point
Bhajan broadcasts often pair audio with a static image or slowly changing visuals. In that situation, 60 fps is usually of little practical value, so 30 fps is a reasonable first setting to test on a lower-spec PC. That is a content-specific judgment, not a YouTube recommendation specifically for bhajans. The computer’s CPU, GPU or hardware encoder, streaming software, and background workload all affect whether it can hold the setting continuously.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. You do not need to send 1080p simply to make the stream available in a watchable format to viewers with different connections. YouTube Help: live encoder settings.

YouTube also lists H.264 guidance of 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for 720p60, and 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p30. For AV1 or H.265, its listed values are 2 Mbps minimum and 6 Mbps recommended at 720p30, and 0.3 Mbps minimum and 3 Mbps recommended at 480p30. These figures do not predict your PC’s encoding performance or your connection’s sustained upload capacity. On a low-end computer, check whether the installed hardware and software support an efficient AV1 or H.265 encoder before selecting either codec. YouTube’s current encoder table.

Set up and test the stream before going nonstop
- Set output: Choose 1280×720 at 30 fps and H.264 if the encoder available to your streaming software supports it smoothly.
- Set video encoding: Choose CBR (constant bitrate) and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For H.264 at 720p30, its recommended video bitrate is 8 Mbps; use a rate your tested upload connection can sustain.
- Set audio: YouTube’s guidance specifies AAC or MP3, stereo audio at 128 Kbps, and a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo. Use the compatible option available in your encoder. YouTube encoder settings.
- Check upload capacity: Run an upload-speed test and choose settings for a connection that can reliably carry the stream. YouTube’s minimum bitrate figure does not establish that your connection will sustain it continuously.
- Run a representative test: Before the broadcast, include audio and movement similar to the planned stream. YouTube advises testing with comparable audio and video movement; a still devotional image alone may not expose problems that appear during transitions or animation. YouTube Help.
- Monitor stream health: Watch YouTube’s health indicators and messages while live. Its API documentation identifies low bitrate, frame-rate mismatch, missing audio, and insufficient incoming video as issues; insufficient video ingestion can cause viewer buffering. - Step down if needed: If the PC cannot encode smoothly at 720p30, lower output to 480p30, set a bitrate suited to the tested connection, and test again before relying on it for a nonstop broadcast.
Troubleshoot common instability
- Video drops frames or looks choppy: The PC may not be encoding the selected resolution and frame rate continuously. Try 480p30 and test again; the exact limit cannot be predicted without the particular computer and encoder.
- YouTube reports low bitrate or the stream buffers: The selected bitrate may exceed what the connection can sustain, or incoming video may be insufficient. Re-test upload capacity, reduce the setting if needed, and monitor stream health. The published minimum is not a stability guarantee.
- Frame-rate mismatch appears: Check that the encoder’s configured frame rate matches the intended output, 30 fps for the recommended starting point, then test again.
- There is no audio: Check that the audio source is active and routed into the stream, and confirm the encoder is using a YouTube-supported audio codec and settings.
- A still-image test works but the full broadcast does not: Test again with representative transitions, animation, or other planned movement, as well as the actual audio. Static visuals can conceal issues that emerge under the intended workload.
