Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a low-bitrate VPS, start with a 30 fps stream at 360p or 480p, use constant bitrate (CBR), and set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists minimum video bitrates of 0.3 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 0.4 Mbps for H.264 at these resolutions, but its recommended rates are higher. A setting that meets YouTube’s minimum does not guarantee your VPS can deliver it continuously: test the actual stream and watch YouTube’s stream health.
What bitrate should you use?
YouTube does not give 24/7 streams a separate bitrate ladder. Its published figures depend on resolution, frame rate and codec. The following 30 fps figures are from YouTube Help’s encoder guidance, accessed in 2026; they are platform settings, not VPS performance results.
| Resolution and frame rate | Codec | YouTube minimum video bitrate | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 360p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 0.3 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 480p30 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 0.3 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 360p30 | H.264 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 480p30 | H.264 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
For a constrained connection, treat the minimum as a starting point for testing, not a target that guarantees smooth viewing. YouTube recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio at a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Audio and protocol overhead also consume outbound capacity; YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify a universal overhead allowance or a safe VPS headroom percentage.
Choose the codec your encoder actually supports, then select the resolution and bitrate together. If delivery is unstable, lower the resolution or target bitrate and test again. A static or low-motion scene may be more tolerable at a low resolution, but that is a practical inference, not a YouTube guarantee.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set the encoder for a continuous stream
Use a supported protocol and rate control
YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS for ingestion and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Set rate control to CBR. Use an encoder and VPS configuration capable of maintaining the selected output continuously; a configured bitrate alone does not show whether the server’s outbound connection can sustain it.
Set keyframes and audio
- Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: For stereo, use AAC or MP3; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate.
- Video: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported codecs, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For a limited VPS, 30 fps at 360p or 480p is a sensible first test rather than an assumption that higher settings will hold.
Test the VPS before relying on it
- Check the encoder and VPS limits. Confirm the encoder supports the chosen codec and that the VPS can sustain outbound traffic at the intended rate. Consider the combined stream, including audio and protocol overhead; no universal YouTube safety margin is specified.
- Configure the encoder. Choose RTMPS where available, CBR, the selected 30 fps resolution and bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval. Enter the stream key from the YouTube live setup in the encoder without sharing it publicly.
- Run a representative test. Include audio and video movement similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
- Check YouTube’s stream health and messages. Watch for warnings while the test runs, and assess whether the VPS continues to deliver steadily rather than judging only by the encoder’s configured bitrate.
- Adjust one setting at a time if delivery is unstable. Lower the resolution or target bitrate, then repeat the representative test. If the encoder settings are valid but delivery still falters, investigate the VPS’s sustained egress or network stability.
How 24/7 broadcasting works—and what it does not guarantee
Google’s API documentation describes a channel broadcasting a 24/7 live feed and explains how separate broadcasts can be associated with the same ongoing stream. That is a platform/API workflow; it does not guarantee that an encoder or VPS will stay online. The encoder still has to send video continuously, and YouTube’s API health guidance identifies low bitrate, long keyframe intervals and video ingestion starvation as possible issues. Insufficient video delivery can cause buffering for viewers.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom or warning | Possible cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Viewer buffering or video ingestion starvation | The VPS is not consistently delivering enough video, even if the encoder is configured with a valid bitrate. | Check YouTube stream health and VPS outbound stability. Reduce resolution or target bitrate and repeat a representative test. |
| Low-bitrate warning | The delivered bitrate is below what the selected output needs, or delivery is inconsistent. | Check the encoder’s actual output and the VPS connection. Lower the video target or resolution if the server cannot sustain delivery. |
| Keyframe-related warning | The keyframe interval is too long. | Set a two-second interval and keep it at or below YouTube’s four-second maximum. |
| Health warnings despite apparently correct settings | Configuration may not be the only problem; the VPS may have inadequate or unstable egress. | Compare the encoder configuration with YouTube’s health messages, then test sustained delivery from the VPS under representative stream conditions. |
Choosing a VPS for a long-running broadcast
If you are selecting or replacing a VPS, compare sustained outbound bandwidth, transfer limits, uptime terms, server location and price. Check the current plan details directly with the provider; YouTube’s published encoder settings do not certify any VPS plan or establish a universal connection threshold for reliable 24/7 delivery.
