1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo simulcast an Indian-language internet radio station on YouTube, send the station’s program audio from your home server into a live encoder, pair it with a video signal such as a station artwork card, and send that feed to the YouTube broadcast’s ingest address using its stream key. Your existing internet-radio stream can continue separately; this setup adds a YouTube Live destination.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- A home server or other machine that can provide the station’s program audio to an encoder. The encoder may run on the server or on a separate computer; YouTube does not require a particular radio automation package or hardware encoder.
- An encoder that can send a compatible audio-and-video feed to YouTube. For a radio simulcast, a static station image or now-playing card is a practical visual choice, not a stated YouTube requirement.
- Reliable upload bandwidth for the selected video profile, plus permission to use the station’s music and other material in a YouTube live stream and any replay.
YouTube’s documented live-encoder workflow expects an audio/video feed. A radio station therefore needs to supply a visual signal as well as audio. The documented ingestion settings do not change because the spoken or sung language is Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Urdu, or another Indian language.
Set up the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream creation workflow and create or schedule a broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Open the broadcast’s stream settings and copy the ingest URL and stream key shown for that specific broadcast. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Choose the YouTube-recommended RTMPS ingest option when your encoder supports it. RTMPS protects the RTMP connection using SSL/TLS; Google’s documentation specifies the correct RTMPS endpoint and port 443. Use the endpoint YouTube supplies for your broadcast, not an old tutorial’s example. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation.
- In the encoder, enter that ingest address and stream key. Select the current YouTube encoder settings that fit your chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, and available upload bandwidth.
Configure the encoder for a radio simulcast
Audio
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo sound, its recommendation is 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps. Route the actual program output—not a monitoring-only or microphone input—into the encoder, and confirm that both channels are present if the station broadcasts in stereo.
Video and bitrate
YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, constant bitrate encoding, and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its suggested video bitrates vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate; consult the applicable row in the current YouTube encoder settings table rather than applying one bitrate to every profile.

A static artwork card usually has little visual motion, so there is no editorial reason to choose an unnecessarily demanding video profile. The right choice is still constrained by YouTube’s applicable encoder guidance and the sustained upload capacity of the home connection. YouTube advises choosing a quality that is reliable for the available bandwidth and testing before going live.
Language and graphics
Use the station’s intended language consistently in the YouTube title and description, and check that the encoder source, artwork, and any now-playing text render the correct script. Do not assume that YouTube translates the audio or supplies captions automatically; provide captions separately if your broadcast needs them.

Route the station audio and test the feed
- Identify the program-audio output from the station software or audio chain on the home server. Connect that output to the encoder running on the server or another machine. The exact routing depends on your station software and operating system; no single stack is required by YouTube’s ingest documentation.
- Set the encoder’s audio and video formats, stream destination, and key. Start the encoder feed while the broadcast is still private or unlisted, if that option is available for your setup.
- Check the YouTube preview for the correct artwork, intended language, stable audio, and a suitable audio level. Use YouTube Studio’s stream-health notices before making the broadcast public.
- Run a representative test that includes the normal program mix and the intended visual. YouTube Help’s instruction is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- When ready, start the broadcast in YouTube Studio if the workflow requires that step, and monitor stream health and messages while it is live. The LiveStreams API documentation describes ingest details and health status, including issues such as low bitrate, mismatched frame rate, and missing audio.
Check music rights before going live
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that it holds the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights, and has met relevant territory requirements. Whether an existing Indian radio, internet-radio, or other music license covers YouTube Live depends on the actual repertoire, territory, contracts, and broadcast model. The reviewed YouTube material does not establish that any one category of Indian broadcast permission automatically extends to a YouTube simulcast. Check the scope of your agreements and obtain advice for your circumstances where needed. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the stream image, warn you, temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream; a copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also lead to termination. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says the channel may need to be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Contact the relevant rights holders before broadcasting and confirm allowlisting where applicable, then check Studio for restrictions. Details are in YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

YouTube’s Audio Library offers production music and sound effects described as copyright-safe for YouTube; tracks under Creative Commons terms may require attribution. That is not blanket clearance for a station’s catalogue or for uses outside YouTube.
Troubleshoot common problems
| What you see or hear | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no feed | Incorrect ingest address or stream key, or encoder not sending. | Copy the current URL and key from the specific broadcast’s Studio settings; verify the encoder is connected and sending. |
| Audio is missing | The encoder may be receiving the wrong source or no audio input. | Check the program-audio routing and encoder input meter; confirm the stream includes AAC or MP3 audio. |
| Studio reports low bitrate or unstable health | The selected profile may exceed reliable upload capacity. | Check sustained upload capacity, then choose an applicable lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate profile and its corresponding bitrate from YouTube’s table. |
| Health warning about frame rate | The encoder’s actual output may not match the selected or expected profile. | Check the encoder’s output frame rate and configure a consistent profile. |
| Stream is interrupted or image replaced | YouTube may have detected third-party content or a policy issue. | Review Studio notices and restrictions; verify rights for the exact material and ask rights holders about Content ID allowlisting. |
