Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a single video, open the OBS Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, use a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. These are separate controls from restarting playback when a source becomes active, so check the setting that matches how the video is meant to repeat.
First identify the source type
OBS has two relevant source types, and their repeat controls are not interchangeable:
| What you want to play | OBS source | Repeat setting | Dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| One local video file | Media Source | Loop | No VLC dependency is stated for this source. |
| Several media files in sequence | VLC Video | Loop Playlist | VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
OBS lists common Media Source media types including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. If you are troubleshooting a file outside that list, the cited documentation does not establish whether it will work in your particular setup.
Make a single Media Source repeat
- In OBS, select the scene containing the video, then locate the video in the Sources list.
- Open that source’s properties and confirm the local file path points to the intended video.
- Turn on Loop. OBS documents this setting as controlling whether the file plays again after playback completes; its documented default is off.
- Decide separately whether to leave Restart playback when source becomes active enabled. OBS documents that setting as restarting the file when the source is in the current scene and visible; its documented default is on. It does not make the file loop at the end.
Make a playlist repeat with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS says VLC Video will not appear as a source until VLC is installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Add or select a VLC Video source and configure its media files as a playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents this as restarting the source after it has run out of media files; its documented default is on.
- Review the source’s behavior when it is not visible. VLC Video offers choices to continue, pause, or stop when hidden. Choose the behavior that matches how playback should work across scene changes.
Check scene visibility if the problem follows a scene change
OBS sources belong to scenes and can be hidden or shown with the eye icon in the Sources list. If playback changes when you switch scenes, check which scene contains the source and whether the source is hidden. For VLC Video, also check the not-visible behavior: pausing or stopping while hidden can explain why playback does not continue as expected when you return to a scene. Visibility and looping solve different problems: one controls whether a source is shown or how it behaves while hidden; the other controls whether media repeats after reaching its end.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Troubleshoot in this order
- The video plays once and ends: For a single file, verify Loop is on in Media Source properties. For a playlist, verify Loop Playlist is on in VLC Video.
- The video restarts after changing scenes but does not repeat at the end: Check Loop. Restarting when active is not a substitute for looping.
- Playback stops, pauses, or changes after switching scenes: Confirm the source is in the scene you expect and inspect its visibility. In VLC Video, review the behavior selected for when the source is not visible.
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu: Install VLC and match its bitness to OBS; OBS documents that 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- The settings do not explain the failure: Record the OBS version, operating system, source type, file format, and exact steps that reproduce the issue. Without those details, a specific codec, file, or platform fault cannot be established.
Keep the 24/7 stream itself in view
These settings address OBS media playback; they do not establish a 24/7 uptime guarantee or explain every reason a live stream might stop. A looping source alone also does not establish copyright permission, reused-content eligibility, or compliance with platform rules for a children’s stream. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the media and review the platform’s applicable requirements separately.
