For a continuous channel, the encoder must be able to play a playlist or loop and recover from interruptions; confirm those capabilities in the encoder you choose, because YouTube’s encoder guidance does not establish a universal unattended-loop setup. If monetization matters, add original commentary or analysis tied to the gameplay: an unchanged loop is not a dependable route to YouTube monetization.
What you need before starting
The basic setup is existing Fortnite recordings, a computer or other compatible playback-and-encoding setup, an encoder that can send a live feed to YouTube, and access to YouTube Live for the channel. The hardware depends on how you captured the matches and what equipment you already own; no single new purchase is necessary for everyone.
- PC recordings: Use the existing files if they are in a format your playback and encoding software supports.
- Console recordings: Export or transfer the recordings into a setup that can play them into an encoder. A capture card may be relevant to a particular capture workflow, but is not a universal requirement for footage already recorded and available as files.
- Commentary: If you want to add explanation or analysis, prepare recorded narration or a live microphone input and make sure its audio is included in the encoder output.
There is no evidence-based universal requirement for a particular PC, drive, microphone, or capture card. Decide based on your source footage, file size, storage, and whether you are adding commentary.
How to build and launch the stream
- Check the footage and its rights. Prefer matches you recorded yourself. If someone else made the recordings, get permission and confirm that permission covers rebroadcasting. Check music and other third-party material inside the clips separately; YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music (YouTube Terms of Service).
- Shape the programming. Put the selected recordings in a playlist, then add original explanation, tactics, commentary, or analysis tied to what viewers see. Consider how the channel will avoid looking like a repetitive sequence of interchangeable matches. This can make the program more useful and may matter for monetization, but it does not guarantee approval.
- Set up YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who gets it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Use YouTube’s current live-stream setup instructions for the channel’s exact interface and eligibility requirements.
- Configure an encoder. Add the Fortnite playlist or playback source, set the stream destination to YouTube, and enter the stream key. Include commentary and any overlays in the program output, then verify that the encoder’s current version supports playlist looping and reconnect behavior suitable for unattended operation. YouTube documents encoder features such as browser-source overlays, but that does not confirm a specific encoder’s 24/7 looping configuration (YouTube Help: Live streaming with an encoder).
- Test before leaving it unattended. Start with a short private or unlisted test. Check that video and audio are present, the playlist advances or loops as intended, and the stream remains live through a playback transition. Confirm what happens after an encoder or connection interruption; do not assume reconnect or recovery behavior without testing it.
- Go live and monitor it. Start the encoder output, confirm YouTube receives the stream, and monitor the broadcast. YouTube may archive a livestream for later viewing, and the stream and archive remain subject to applicable terms (YouTube Terms of Service).
Can you loop Fortnite gameplay, and will YouTube monetize it?
These are separate questions: permission to rebroadcast the content does not automatically make it eligible for monetization. YouTube says its channel monetization policies apply to live streams and evaluates a channel as a whole. Repetitive, mass-produced, generic, or reused material can be ineligible even where the creator has permission to use it (YouTube channel monetization policies; YouTube reused-content guidance).

YouTube’s game-content guidance says monetization depends on commercial-use rights granted by the game publisher. It cautions that extended videos simply showing gameplay may not be accepted, while commentary closely tied to the action and providing instructional or educational value may qualify. Commentary helps make the purpose and creator contribution clearer; it is not a guarantee of approval (YouTube Help: Video game and software content).
Epic’s End User License Agreement includes recordings and livestreams of gameplay in its definition of “External Fan Content,” subject to compliance with Epic’s terms. Review Epic’s current terms and any fan-content policy they reference before publishing (Epic Games End User License Agreement).

For a channel built around matches, a more defensible editorial format is to explain decisions, tactics, loadouts, rotations, or mistakes as they appear, rather than repeat the same unannotated footage indefinitely. Make sure any music, lobby audio, overlays, and added soundtrack are cleared for the uses you plan.
Ways a monetized livestream may earn revenue
For channels that meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements and have monetization enabled, potential live-stream features include ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. YouTube notes that individual ad slots are not guaranteed to serve (YouTube Help: Ways to earn money on YouTube).

YouTube reported an average “over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour” in a January 2024 comparison across 207 countries, comparing channels with live automatic mid-roll ads enabled against channels without them. That platform-reported comparison is not a forecast for a new Fortnite stream or a guarantee of earnings.
