How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Stream of Fighting Game Tournament Replays

A practical guide to rights clearance, continuous replay playout, YouTube Live encoder setup, testing, and cloud streaming for fighting game tournaments.

To run a 24/7 YouTube stream of fighting game tournament replays, first secure permission for every part of the footage and audio, then arrange the cleared videos in a continuous playout feed and send that feed to YouTube Live with an encoder. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming for gameplay and events; the replay loop itself is something you arrange with your playout setup, not a YouTube playlist feature.

1. Clear the replays and audio before you stream

Having a replay file—or permission to upload a video on demand—does not automatically mean you can rebroadcast it continuously as a live stream. Identify who controls each recording and check the relevant agreements for the specific rights you need.

  • Check with the tournament organizer and, where applicable, the recording or broadcast producer.
  • Review the game footage and any included music, commentary, graphics, sponsor material, or other third-party content.
  • Confirm that permission covers live rebroadcast, your intended territories and duration, and any planned archive or monetization.
  • Keep written permission available. For jurisdiction-specific questions, get advice based on the relevant agreements and applicable law.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream image with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or issue a strike. YouTube advises creators with a license to ask the rights holder to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. Even with a license, a stream can be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, and an archived live stream may receive a Content ID claim after it ends. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

2. Choose how to play the replays continuously

You need a playout setup that feeds the replay videos, in sequence, to an encoder. Decide what viewers should see between matches and how the sequence should behave when a file ends or fails.

Plan the program

  • Order the cleared replays and decide whether the sequence repeats from the beginning or moves through a longer rotation.
  • Choose how to handle transitions, breaks, match labels, and overlays.
  • Check that the selected playout method can sequence your files and handle a failed item. Do not assume a YouTube feature or encoder will create a replay loop automatically.

Local computer or cloud playout

A local encoder computer gives you direct control, but you are responsible for keeping the computer, playout, encoder, and network connection working. YouTube documents encoder streaming for gameplay and events; it does not require a dedicated computer or capture card to play existing local files. OBS has an official help portal with streaming and encoding guidance, but verify that your chosen setup meets your specific scheduling and recovery needs.

A hosted playout or encoder is another possible approach if you do not want a machine running at home. Before choosing one, confirm that it supports continuous file playback, YouTube Live ingestion, the required RTMPS settings, and recovery behavior. Hosting does not grant rebroadcast rights or avoid YouTube’s copyright checks.

3. Enable YouTube Live and connect an encoder

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
  2. Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Use the current stream settings shown for the broadcast.
  3. Connect the encoder. Enter the stream key and server information from YouTube Studio into your encoder. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  4. Set the output to match your program. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second recommended keyframe interval, with four seconds as the maximum. It recommends RTMPS. Consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the bitrate and resolution that fit your chosen output; those values can change, so do not rely on a copied setting for every resolution or frame rate.
  5. Start the playout and verify the feed. Confirm that the video and audio are present in Live Control Room and that the stream is receiving the expected content before making it public.

4. Test and operate the stream

Before launch

  • Run an operational check using private or unlisted visibility where appropriate; this checks the setup but does not clear rights.
  • Test the actual replay files for Content ID matches and confirm any required channel allowlisting with the rights holder.
  • Check video, audio levels, transitions, overlays, and the order in which files play.
  • Verify that the encoder reconnects as intended after a planned test interruption. Do not assume the stream will recover automatically unless your chosen setup has that capability.

During the broadcast

Keep an operator able to respond to playout or encoder failures, network interruptions, YouTube warnings, and stream termination. Check the encoder, network path, Live Control Room status, and copyright notifications. If live streaming stops, inspect YouTube Studio for restrictions or strikes and resolve the cause before restarting.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube-only stream of uploaded replay videos, StreamNeo is an option if you do not want a computer or home connection to stay on. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud. It does not stream from a camera, and it does not grant rights to tournament footage or music—clear those before uploading.
