You can change a live broadcast’s YouTube category or game label without ending the stream, if the relevant control is available in your current YouTube Studio interface. In Live Control Room, open the active stream’s settings, edit the category or game field, and save. Separately, switch the gameplay scene in your encoder. The scene change updates the video feed; it should not be assumed to change YouTube’s game label.
Change the game label without ending the stream
- Keep your encoder running. Continue sending video and audio to YouTube. Do not click End Stream just to change metadata.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then select the active stream and open its edit or settings controls. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance describes managing metadata through stream settings.
- Look for the category or game field. If the active stream’s current interface offers the relevant field, update it and save. The precise selector and labels may vary; YouTube’s current help material does not expressly document the exact game-selector interaction during an already-live broadcast. An older OBS Project community guide describes category and game fields in Live Control Room, but should not be treated as a guarantee of today’s layout.
- Switch the gameplay feed separately. In OBS or your encoder, change to the scene or source for the next game. Check the outgoing preview to confirm that the video matches the label you set.
If you cannot find a suitable game field in the active stream’s settings, do not assume a scene change will update it. Keep the title and description broad enough to remain accurate, or consult YouTube’s current stream-settings help for the controls available to your account.
Understand the three separate controls

YouTube describes encoder software as the way to send the video and audio feed, while stream settings manage broadcast details. These are separate operations: switching an OBS scene changes what viewers see, but does not by itself change YouTube’s metadata. See YouTube’s encoder setup and streaming instructions.
What happens to the broadcast and replay
Changing metadata is not the same as ending a broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow identifies End Stream as a separate action, alongside stopping encoder output. Its help also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The available guidance does not establish that a single replay will be divided into per-game segments or preserve separate game labels for each part.
