To loop one recorded church service on YouTube Live with OBS Studio, add it to a scene as a Media Source and turn on Loop. To cycle through multiple recordings, use OBS’s VLC Video source, load the files in order, and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its stream URL and key, test the feed in YouTube Studio, and start the broadcast.
Choose the right OBS playback source
| What you want to play | OBS source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| One recorded service, repeated | Media Source | Select the local video file and enable Loop. OBS documents common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. OBS Media Sources |
| Several services in a set order | VLC Video | Add the recordings as a playlist and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Source visibility can affect playback, so keep it visible in the active scene. OBS Media Sources |
Neither method needs a camera or capture card: the source is an existing recording on the computer. Keep the files in a stable local folder and play each one before building the scene, so a missing, moved, or unreadable file does not derail the stream.
Set up a single recording or playlist in OBS
Loop one service
- Open OBS and select or create the scene you want to send to YouTube.
- In the Sources panel, choose + → Media Source. Create a new source, name it clearly, and select the recording file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. Confirm that the source is visible and that the video fits the canvas as intended.
- Play the source and check both picture and audio. If the recording has quiet sections, confirm that the audio meter responds when sound is present.
Cycle through multiple services
- Install VLC before configuring the source. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In the scene’s Sources panel, choose + → VLC Video and create a source.
- Add the service files in the order you want viewers to see them. Enable Loop Playlist.
- Keep the VLC Video source visible in the active scene. Test the transition from one file to the next and confirm that playback restarts after the final item.
OBS’s documented source options and VLC dependency are described in the OBS Media Sources guide. Label files and playlist entries plainly; a filename that identifies the service and date makes later changes less error-prone.
Connect OBS to a YouTube Live encoder stream
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder stream. In its stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current Studio flow.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube or the applicable YouTube service option, then enter the stream URL and key as required. If OBS offers account connection instead, follow the displayed YouTube authorization flow.
- Keep the key private. It is the credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to the stream; anyone who obtains it could transmit to that stream. YouTube explains stream keys in its stream settings guide.
- Save the settings. Start the OBS stream output, then check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the incoming feed. Review the preview and stream health before making the event public or going live.
YouTube advises testing the setup and monitoring stream health. Start the encoder early enough to catch connection or playback issues before viewers arrive; see YouTube’s live streaming tips and encoder settings guidance.

- 【USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C: 10Gbps & Versatile Connectivity】The USB 3.2 Gen2 Type‑C port on the KAMRUI P2 small pc supports 10Gbps data transfer speeds and can also output DisplayPort 1.4 video. Together with Gigabit LAN, Wi‑Fi, and Bluetooth, you get a fast, flexible, and productive connected environment – wired or wireless.
Set video, audio, bitrate, and keyframes
There is no single safe bitrate for every church connection or recording. Set the output to a resolution and frame rate your upload connection can sustain, and leave bandwidth headroom for normal fluctuations. A high-quality source file cannot compensate for an unstable upload connection.
- Ingest protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion.
- Video codec: YouTube’s current encoder settings list H.264 for RTMP/RTMPS video.
- Rate control: Use CBR, as recommended in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Keyframes: Set a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Resolution and bitrate: Choose them to suit available sustained upload bandwidth and the desired viewing quality rather than copying a bitrate without checking the connection.
These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular network can carry a chosen output. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings and streaming tips when configuring output.

Test the complete broadcast before viewers depend on it
- Run the actual recording through the selected OBS source, including representative audio and any playlist transitions.
- Start OBS output and wait for YouTube Studio to show the incoming feed.
- Review the Live Control Room preview for correct framing, motion, and sound. Check stream health for warnings before going live.
- Confirm the event’s visibility and that its watch page is accessible as intended from the channel.
- For a planned public broadcast, do this test ahead of the announced start time, not after viewers are waiting.
A successful local preview alone does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed. YouTube’s guidance recommends previewing and monitoring the stream at the platform end. See YouTube live streaming tips.
Plan for long streams and keep a replay backup
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full service or sequence matters, end and restart the live stream before that threshold and make a local recording as a backup. Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive to preserve a continuous stream longer than 12 hours. YouTube archive guidance

Clear rights for every part of the recording
A recording made by the church may still contain third-party material, including music, readings, slides, or other content. The church or channel operator is responsible for securing the rights needed to rebroadcast it, including music rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and can interrupt or terminate a stream if matched content remains.
Having a license does not necessarily prevent a live interruption: YouTube says the relevant rights owner may also need to allowlist the channel through Content ID. Check rights and any required allowlisting before scheduling a continuous broadcast. See YouTube copyright guidance and YouTube’s livestream terms.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The video ends instead of repeating | Loop is not enabled for the selected source, or the wrong source is active. | Open Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a multi-file sequence, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. |
| A playlist source is missing or will not play | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC. Reopen or reconfigure the VLC Video source. |
| Playback stops when changing scenes or hiding a source | The VLC source’s visibility behavior can affect playback. | Keep the VLC Video source visible in the active scene and verify playback after any scene changes. |
| YouTube Studio does not show an incoming feed | OBS may not be sending, or the URL/key may be incorrect. | Confirm OBS output is started, then recheck the stream URL and key in OBS against the encoder stream in YouTube Studio. |
| The feed arrives but YouTube reports poor stream health | Output settings may exceed the connection’s sustained upload capacity, or keyframe/rate-control settings may not match YouTube’s guidance. | Reduce resolution or bitrate to fit the available upload bandwidth, use CBR, and check the recommended 2-second keyframe interval (maximum 4 seconds) in YouTube’s encoder settings. |
| A live broadcast is interrupted despite a valid recording | Third-party content may trigger a live match, or necessary rights/Content ID allowlisting may be missing. | Check the content’s rights and resolve any required rights-owner allowlisting; consult YouTube copyright guidance. |
