To connect Castr to a YouTube channel in India, create a livestream in Castr, add YouTube as a destination, then either authorize your Google account or enter a YouTube stream URL and key. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility rules apply in India just as they do elsewhere; the documented setup does not specify a separate India-only connection route.
Before you connect: check YouTube live-stream access
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
- If this is the first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Confirm access before scheduling a broadcast.
- Sign in with an account that has permission to manage the intended channel. In YouTube Studio, confirm that the selected channel and planned stream or event are correct.

Create a Castr livestream and add YouTube
- In Castr, create a livestream. Choose a hosting region close to where you will send the broadcast feed. Available destination limits depend on your Castr subscription. Castr’s guide, updated August 4, 2026, covers this general setup: How to Start a Live Stream in Castr.
- Open the stream dashboard, add a destination, and select YouTube.
- Choose either account linking or manual server/key setup, described below.
- After configuring the destination, check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and confirm that the event is visible and accessible as intended before you begin the broadcast.
Choose how Castr connects to YouTube
Option 1: Link your Google account
- In Castr’s YouTube destination setup, select “Connect to YouTube Events.”
- Sign in to Google if prompted and authorize access.
- Select the YouTube channel you want to use.
- Choose an existing event or enter details to create one through Castr, then create the platform.
This route lets you choose or create event details while working in Castr. If Google authorization does not complete or the intended channel is unavailable, use the manual route if you can access that channel’s stream settings in YouTube Studio.
Option 2: Enter a YouTube stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy that stream’s URL and stream key from its settings.
- In Castr’s YouTube destination setup, choose the server/key method and paste the URL and key into the corresponding fields, then create the platform.
- Edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard: Castr notes that description changes for this route must be made there.
The stream key is a credential that lets an encoder send video to your channel. Keep it private: do not show it in screenshots, recordings, or public notes. YouTube says channel owners or managers can reset a key if needed. Details are in Manage live stream settings.

Which route should you use?

Neither method is established as universally more reliable. Castr’s documented workflow is available in its YouTube connection guide; some interface labels may differ from the guide published May 19, 2023.
Test the stream before broadcasting
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming feed preview. Confirm picture, sound, channel, event details, and visibility before going live.
- Leave upload bandwidth headroom. The available outbound connection needs to accommodate the stream’s bitrate; a connection that only just matches it can cause instability.
- If your Castr source is offline, Castr advises turning the YouTube destination off and enabling it when the source is live. This can help avoid connection problems on a later broadcast.
- YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are archived automatically. Do not assume the same archive outcome for a stream lasting longer than 12 hours; check YouTube’s current guidance for your broadcast plan.

What changes for broadcasters in India?
The documented Castr workflow is general: it does not identify a special India-only setup, a country-specific restriction for this connection, or a performance guarantee for any Indian internet provider. Choose a Castr hosting region close to where you send the feed, as Castr recommends, and check that your own upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. If account linking fails, manual URL/key configuration is an available alternative when you can access the YouTube stream settings.
Optional: YouTube monetization
You do not need YouTube monetization merely to connect a channel to Castr. If you want to enable ads through Castr’s YouTube destination, Castr says you need to participate in the YouTube Partner Program and have ads enabled in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab. See Castr’s YouTube monetization guide.
