A license or purchase alone does not stop YouTube’s live-content checks, and YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Neither uninterrupted availability nor archive retention is guaranteed.
What permission do you need?
The word “licensed” is not enough to settle this. The agreement needs to cover the particular broadcast you intend to make. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the provider to have all necessary rights for worldwide use of the live content, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants.
Before broadcasting, get written confirmation from the licensor or rights holder on each point that applies:
- Live and continuous use: Does permission expressly cover a continuous or looping YouTube Live broadcast, rather than only edited videos, on-demand uploads or background use?
- Channel and territory: Does it cover the specific channel that will stream and all territories where viewers may watch?
- Commercial use: Does it permit monetization, sponsorship or other commercial use planned for the stream?
- Archive: May you leave a replay available after the broadcast, and for how long?
- Rights covered: Which recordings and compositions are included? If the licensor controls only some rights, who clears the remaining ones?
- Content ID: Will the rights holder or its administrator add your channel to the YouTube Content ID allowlist, what channel identifier do they need, and when will the change take effect?
These are contract questions, not permissions that can be assumed from a track’s description. YouTube advises checking third-party license terms for where and how music can be used: Tips to find safe music.

Why a licensed track can still interrupt a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If its system identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube’s guidance for licensed content is direct: ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Permission and allowlisting are separate practical checks.
If a broadcast is stopped, check YouTube Studio for the notice, restriction or strike and contact the rights holder or administrator about allowlisting. YouTube explains this process under Copyright issues with live streams. Allowlisting helps address the automated match, but it is not a promise that a stream can never be interrupted.

Does “free,” “royalty-free” or paid mean the music is safe?
No label by itself answers whether a track is cleared for an all-day live broadcast. YouTube identifies public-domain music and music used with permission as possible safe sources, and also points creators to its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music in eligible circumstances, and paid or royalty-free third-party sites. In each case, check the actual terms for the intended use.
A receipt or a “royalty-free” description does not, by itself, prevent a Content ID match. A purchase also does not establish that the license includes continuous live use, worldwide viewers, monetization, an archive, or allowlisting.

YouTube Creator Music has limits
YouTube’s Creator Music licensing information says the service is available to U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators, with expansion outside the U.S. pending. Its track licenses are described for use in videos uploaded to YouTube. Do not assume a particular track license covers a continuous livestream or its replay; check that track’s terms and get confirmation for those uses.
What changes when “all day” means more than 12 hours?
Rights and stream duration are different issues. The license and Content ID allowlisting determine whether the music is permitted and whether an automated match may disrupt the broadcast. Duration affects YouTube’s archive and DVR features.

- Shrink-wrapped
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR may also be limited or unavailable on very long streams. If a dependable replay matters, consider ending and restarting before that threshold and keep a local recording as a backup. See YouTube’s Archive live streams guidance. Live permission and permission to keep an archive available should be checked separately with the rights holder.

If you have verified the music rights and want a YouTube broadcast to keep looping without relying on a computer at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option for uploaded videos and playlists. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. StreamNeo handles the streaming setup, not music permission: you still need a license that covers the broadcast and Content ID allowlisting where applicable.
