Yes. A YouTube channel does not need 1,000 subscribers to livestream in every format. The 1,000-subscriber figure applies to possible audience and archive limits for mobile livestreams; YouTube’s current mobile eligibility guidance sets the minimum at 50 subscribers. YouTube also lists webcam and encoder streaming from a computer, without stating an exact subscriber minimum for those methods on its general live-streaming guide.
What the subscriber thresholds mean
YouTube’s 1,000-subscriber figure is not a universal requirement to go live. It is relevant to mobile streaming: channels with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have their mobile audience limited, and their livestream archives may be set to private by default. YouTube says those limits may take weeks to update after a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers. YouTube’s mobile livestreaming guidance describes these conditions.
For mobile livestreaming, YouTube lists a minimum of 50 subscribers. Its general live-streaming guidance also says a channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming guide covers the general requirements and available methods.
Choose how to livestream
| Method | Subscriber guidance | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile app | At least 50 subscribers | With more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, audience limits may apply and archives may default to private. Device and account requirements also apply. |
| Webcam from a computer | No exact minimum stated on YouTube’s general guide | YouTube lists webcam streaming as an option; a computer with a webcam is needed. |
| Encoder from a computer | No exact minimum stated on YouTube’s general guide | YouTube lists encoder streaming for setups such as gameplay, overlays, or external equipment. |
| Console | No exact minimum stated on YouTube’s general guide | YouTube lists console streaming and directs creators to console-maker instructions. |
The absence of a stated number for webcam, encoder, or console streaming is not a guarantee that every channel can use those features immediately. Check the channel’s feature access in YouTube Studio if the option is unavailable.

Check eligibility before setting up a stream
- Verify the channel. YouTube says verification is required for livestreaming; its phone verification instructions explain how to verify.
- Check access in YouTube Studio. Review the channel’s feature access and livestream availability there.
- Check the restriction history. YouTube’s general guidance requires no livestreaming restriction during the previous 90 days.
- Confirm age and policy requirements. YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to livestream, and streams must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- If streaming on mobile, confirm mobile-specific requirements. The channel needs at least 50 subscribers, and YouTube lists Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+ as device requirements. After enabling livestreaming for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours.
If livestreaming is unavailable or limited
- Mobile app does not offer live streaming: Check that the channel has at least 50 subscribers, is verified, has no restriction in the previous 90 days, and uses a supported device. If livestreaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Your mobile audience is capped or the archive is private: These limits may apply while the channel has more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers. YouTube says changes after reaching 1,000 may take weeks to take effect.
- Webcam or encoder access is unclear: The general guide lists these methods but does not give an exact subscriber minimum. Check access in Studio rather than assuming the mobile threshold applies.
- The channel has an active livestream restriction: Do not try to bypass it by livestreaming from another channel. YouTube prohibits circumvention of an active restriction.
Using recorded video for a continuous YouTube stream
If your goal is to keep a channel live around the clock using uploaded recordings rather than a camera, that is a different setup question from subscriber eligibility. YouTube’s rules on livestream access still apply, and the stream’s content must comply with its policies. For recorded material, make sure you have the necessary rights to use it; being able to livestream does not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted work.
