To run a 24/7 YouTube stream of Tamil songs from a cloud server, first secure written rights for the recordings and compositions you plan to broadcast, then choose either a self-managed cloud virtual machine running an encoder or a managed streaming service. Cloud hosting does not grant music rights or prevent YouTube from detecting a match. YouTube may interrupt even licensed music if the channel is not on the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist.
Before you stream, clear the music rights
Do not launch until you have confirmed that you can livestream the specific songs you intend to use. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say the content provider must have the necessary rights to exploit the live content, including relevant music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers—including public performance licenses—and other royalty participants. Applicable laws and licensing or approval requirements also matter.
Get written clearance that covers the particular recordings and compositions, the intended livestream use, the territories where viewers may access it, the duration of the permission, and whether the stream will remain available as an archived replay. A consumer music subscription is not, on the evidence cited here, permission to rebroadcast songs on a public livestream. A song can involve multiple rights holders, so clearance for one recording or participant may not settle every relevant right.
- Identify each recording and composition in the playlist, along with the relevant rights holders.
- Confirm that the permission covers public livestreaming, the territories you intend to reach, and the planned stream duration.
- Ask whether the permission also covers YouTube’s archived replay, if you intend to leave one available.
- Ask the rights holder or its representative to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before going live.
YouTube for Artists’ official guidance, Going live for music channels, recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music. That is useful even when you believe you have a license: YouTube Help’s Copyright issues with live streams says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights holder.

How a cloud-based 24/7 YouTube stream works
The basic chain is: a playlist or other audio/video source feeds an encoder; the encoder sends a live input; and YouTube or a managed streaming service processes and publishes the feed. An encoder is a program that sends an input stream; Google Cloud’s Live Stream API overview gives FFmpeg as an example. The cloud server replaces the computer that would otherwise have to run the encoder, but it does not remove the need to keep the process, input files, and network connection working.
For Tamil songs, plan the stream as an audio program with a video signal suitable for your chosen workflow. The sources cited for this guide do not establish a Tamil-specific YouTube setting, a tested FFmpeg command, a recommended VM size, or exact encoder bitrates and keyframe intervals. Do not copy settings from a different stream blindly: use the current requirements shown for your YouTube ingest setup and the service you choose, and test the full playlist before scheduling an uninterrupted run.

Choose a cloud workflow
Self-managed cloud virtual machine
With a general-purpose cloud VM, you operate the encoder yourself. This gives you control over the source files and process, but you are responsible for keeping the VM available, supervising the encoder, handling failures, and checking the stream output. The available official sources do not establish a costed server specification or a provider price for this Tamil-music use case; costs depend on your selected provider, region, VM, storage, and outbound delivery.
Managed streaming service
A managed service can take responsibility for some processing and output steps, but check exactly what it manages and what remains yours. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a managed transcoding and output service, distinct from renting a VM and running FFmpeg on it. Its documentation describes RTMP or SRT inputs, H.264 video and AAC audio inputs, and HLS or MPEG-DASH outputs. Those details describe that API; they are not a universal specification for sending a stream directly to YouTube.

Set up the self-managed workflow
- Prepare the playlist and clearance records. Assemble only the recordings you have permission to stream. Keep the permissions and any allowlist confirmation accessible to the person operating the channel. Check that each file can be read by the encoder you plan to use.
- Create the YouTube live stream and protect its key. In YouTube’s live-stream setup, create or select the event/feed and retrieve the stream key and ingest details displayed for it. Treat the key like a password: store it securely, do not publish it in a script or log that others can access, and replace it if exposed. The YouTube Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast (the event) from a live stream (the associated audio-video feed), which is useful if you automate event setup.
- Provision the VM for a continuously running encoder. Select a provider and region based on your expected workload and delivery needs. The cited sources do not name a suitable machine size or establish current prices, so verify those with the provider rather than relying on a generic recommendation. Upload or otherwise make the playlist available to the VM, and confirm the storage will accommodate the files you plan to loop.
- Configure the encoder for the chosen path. Set the playlist as the input and enter the ingest address and protected stream key where the encoder expects them. Confirm the service’s supported input protocol and media formats. For Google Cloud’s API, for example, the documented inputs include RTMP or SRT and H.264 video and AAC audio; consult its current documentation for the exact channel configuration. For a direct YouTube ingest, follow the requirements shown for that YouTube stream rather than assuming the Google Cloud API settings apply.
- Test before committing to a 24/7 run. Start the encoder and confirm that the intended live event receives audio and video, that the playlist advances or loops as intended, and that there are no gaps or unreadable files. Verify the finished result from a viewer’s perspective and confirm the stream is using the correct event and key. A short successful test does not prove uninterrupted operation, so monitor the live process after launch.
- Keep the encoder recoverable. Configure process supervision and alerts so an operator can detect when the encoder or input fails and restart it safely. Keep a backup plan for a VM, source-file, or network interruption. These are operational recommendations: a cloud VM still needs monitoring and recovery procedures.
Plan around YouTube’s copyright checks
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material from another live broadcast. According to YouTube Help’s Copyright issues with live streams, a detected match can trigger a warning and placeholder image; if the material remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate it.
If YouTube interrupts your stream, do not assume that changing servers or restarting the encoder will resolve the underlying rights issue. Check the notice in YouTube’s live controls, stop or replace the flagged material as appropriate, and contact the relevant rights holder about both your license and Content ID allowlisting. If you do not have the necessary permission, do not restart the same material in an attempt to evade enforcement.

Design for interruptions and service limits
A “24/7” plan needs more than a playlist set to repeat: the encoder must stay alive, the source must remain readable, and the publishing path must recover when something stops. For a Google Cloud Live Stream API channel, the current quotas and limits documentation says: “After 24 hours in any StreamingState other than STOPPED or STOPPING, the channel may be restarted.” This is a documented constraint for that API, not a universal YouTube limit. If you use it, build monitoring and restart handling into your operation and plan how to avoid an unintended gap.
With a self-managed VM, decide who receives alerts, who can restart the encoder, and what happens if the VM or its connection fails. With a managed service, check its own channel lifecycle, quotas, restart behavior, monitoring, and failover options. Neither “cloud” nor “managed” by itself establishes continuous uptime.

- YouTube shows a copyright warning or placeholder: A third-party match may have been detected. Review YouTube’s notice, stop or replace the affected content, and verify the necessary rights and Content ID allowlisting with the owner.
- A licensed stream is still interrupted: Ask the rights holder or label/distributor to confirm that the specific channel has been added to the Content ID allowlist. YouTube says licensing alone may not prevent interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
- The live feed does not appear or has no usable audio/video: Check that the encoder is using the correct event, ingest details, and stream key, and that the source file is readable. Recheck the current input-format requirements for the exact service in use; the Google Cloud API’s documented formats should not be assumed to apply to direct YouTube ingest.
- The stream stops after a long run: Check encoder and VM logs, source-file availability, and service status. If you use Google Cloud Live Stream API, account for its documented possible channel restart after 24 hours in an active state.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Replace or reset it through the live-stream setup, update the encoder’s protected configuration, and confirm that the old key is no longer being used.
