First check whether the video appears more than once in the playlist or whether a playback setting is repeating it. Remove extra entries from the list itself; use loop or shuffle only to control playback. These fixes are different in YouTube, OBS with VLC, and an embedded YouTube player.
Identify what is repeating
A video that plays again is not necessarily a duplicate entry. A playlist can contain the same video more than once, or playback can be set to repeat the current video or the whole playlist. Shuffle changes the order; it does not remove repeated items.
- Repeated entry: the same video or file appears multiple times in the source list. Remove the unwanted entry.
- Playback repeat: a setting replays the current video or starts the list again after its final item. Change the repeat setting if that is not what you want.
- Shuffle: the player changes playback order. It does not deduplicate the list.
If you are watching a YouTube playlist
YouTube has separate repeat behaviors for a whole playlist and the currently playing video. YouTube Help’s instructions, checked October 3, 2026, describe the following controls: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
- Desktop: use the Loop control in the playlist control box to repeat the playlist.
- Android: tap Loop once to repeat the playlist; tap it a second time to repeat the current video. A “1” indicates single-video repeat.
- TV and gaming consoles: check whether the playback mode says “Repeat • Playlist” or “Repeat • Currently playing.”
If the same video has multiple entries in the playlist, remove the unwanted entry from the playlist itself. The cited YouTube Help page explains playback repeat, not current YouTube Studio steps for deleting duplicate entries, so check the labels in your current playlist interface rather than relying on an assumed click path.

If you are broadcasting a local playlist through OBS
OBS’s VLC Video Source plays a list of media files or URLs using VLC libraries; VLC must be installed. OBS’s Media Sources documentation, dated January 11, 2022 and checked October 3, 2026, lists two separate properties:
- Loop Playlist: when enabled, the source starts again after it reaches the end of the media list. OBS lists it as on by default.
- Shuffle Playlist: when enabled, the source randomizes the file order. OBS lists it as off by default.
Open the VLC Video Source properties and inspect the playlist for repeated files or URLs. Remove unwanted repeats from that list. Turn off Loop Playlist only if you do not want the playlist to restart after its last item; this does not remove duplicates already in the list. Shuffle changes order, not membership.

If you control an embedded YouTube player
The YouTube IFrame Player API provides setLoop and setShuffle for playlist playback. Looping sends playback back to the beginning after the final video. Shuffling changes playlist order; if playback has already started, the current video continues while the list is reordered. Shuffling a list that is already shuffled shuffles it again. The API documentation does not describe either control as a duplicate-removal feature: YouTube IFrame Player API Reference (checked October 3, 2026).
Choose settings for nonstop playback

These choices address different things: clean the list to remove extra entries, then set repeat and shuffle to get the playback pattern you want.
