Yes, but not through YouTube’s standard Android “Create → Live” flow. For a phone-only setup, use an Android encoder app that explicitly supports playing and looping a local video file and sending it to YouTube by RTMP or RTMPS. YouTube documents how to connect an encoder, but does not guarantee that a particular app will loop a file, keep running with the screen off, or recover unattended on your handset. Test those behaviors before relying on a long broadcast.
Choose the right route for prerecorded playback
YouTube documents two relevant approaches: mobile live streaming from the YouTube app, and encoder-based streaming using a stream URL and key. The standard mobile workflow is for mobile live video; YouTube does not document it as a way to select a saved gallery video and loop it. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and mobile live instructions.
| Route | Can it loop a saved video? | What is established | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube app mobile live | Not documented | YouTube documents mobile live creation. | Do not assume Create → Live broadcasts a prerecorded gallery file. |
| Android encoder app | Only if the app explicitly supports it | YouTube supports encoder ingest using a stream URL and key; its encoder guidance lists Larix Broadcaster as an example of a mobile encoder. | The YouTube listing does not establish local-file looping, screen-off operation, unattended reconnects, or 24-hour reliability for a particular app or phone. |
| Cloud playback | Depends on the service | A cloud service can play uploaded video without keeping the phone as the playback computer. | Check that the specific service supports YouTube, uploaded-video looping, and your requirements; capabilities vary. |
Before installing an app, check its current listing or help for all of these: local-file playback, looping, RTMP or RTMPS output, background operation under your intended power settings, and recovery after a network interruption. A feature list alone is not proof it will stay live for a full day on your handset.
Check YouTube eligibility first
YouTube’s mobile-live eligibility rules are relevant if you intend to use the native mobile route. They are not proof that a third-party encoder app supports prerecorded playback. YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements apply to live streaming more broadly.

- Below 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit mobile-live viewers and set mobile archives to private by default.
Requirements and effects may differ by route; check the linked YouTube guidance for your channel before scheduling a stream. Subscriber eligibility for YouTube’s native mobile feature should not be treated as a guarantee about a third-party encoder app.
Set up an Android encoder with YouTube Live
- Choose an encoder app. Verify that it supports playing a local file in a loop and transmitting to YouTube over RTMP(S). YouTube’s mention of an app as an encoder example only establishes encoder availability, not those additional features.
- Create the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Set the title, visibility, audience, and other event options before broadcasting.
- Copy the connection details. In the event’s stream settings, copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s server and key fields. Do not expose the key in a screenshot or give it to an untrusted service. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live settings. See Manage live stream settings.
- Select the file and enable looping. In the encoder, select the intended video and turn on its loop or repeat option. The exact control depends on the app; confirm it returns to the beginning instead of stopping at the end.
- Prefer the supplied RTMPS connection where available. RTMPS is RTMP tunneled through SSL/TLS. Google’s technical guidance specifies a valid YouTube ingest URL, port 443, and correct TLS hostname/SNI handling. In ordinary app setup, use YouTube’s supplied URL and key rather than manually constructing a connection: Google’s RTMPS ingest guide.
- Start the encoder and preview. Wait for YouTube to receive the feed. Check the picture, framing, sound, synchronization, and stream-health status. Follow the scheduled-event prompts in Live Control Room to start the event when required by that workflow. YouTube’s setup guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Test the phone’s unattended behavior. Before a long broadcast, run a test on the same phone, app, network, and power settings you plan to use. Check that playback loops, the app remains active with the intended screen settings, and a brief network interruption does not leave the broadcast dead. YouTube recommends testing, previewing, and monitoring the stream: Streaming tips.
Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder recommendations for H.264 include 3 Mbps at 720p30 and 5 Mbps at 1080p30. These are platform recommendations, not measurements of Indian mobile networks or guarantees for a particular carrier, location, handset, or plan. Choose settings that your upload connection can sustain continuously, then check YouTube’s stream-health indicators during a test. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Mobile-data performance and cost depend on your carrier, location, plan, signal, and chosen bitrate. The official guidance does not establish one India-wide upload speed or data cost. If your connection fluctuates, lower the stream settings and test again rather than assuming a brief speed test predicts a full broadcast.
Plan for archives, copyright, and interruptions
A 24/7 broadcast is not a guaranteed 24-hour archive
YouTube warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a continuous day-long broadcast is not a guaranteed complete VOD. If the archive matters, plan separate sessions under 12 hours and keep a local recording backup where feasible. Ending below 12 hours is not an absolute guarantee that every archive will be intact. See Archive live streams.

Use content you have the rights to stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause the broadcast to be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated. Use original material or secure the rights needed for the intended live use. If a rights owner licensed the content, ask them to add your channel to their Content ID allowlist; YouTube says licensed content can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. Read Copyright issues with live streams.
Expect the phone and network to be operational dependencies
A phone-based encoder depends on the handset, app, power, heat management, and network continuing to work. YouTube’s encoder instructions do not promise that an Android app will keep playing with the display off or reconnect unattended. If uninterrupted broadcasting is essential, test those failure cases on your device rather than inferring support from YouTube’s encoder documentation.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no signal | Wrong stream URL or key, encoder not started, or connection settings mismatch. | Copy the current URL and key from the correct Live Control Room event, verify the encoder fields, and check its connection status. |
| Encoder connects, but the event is not live | The event may still need to be started in Live Control Room. | Check the preview and follow the prompts for the scheduled stream. |
| Video stops at the end of the file | Looping is disabled or the app does not support local-file looping. | Confirm the app’s documented loop setting and test through a full cycle before going live. |
| Stream dies when the display turns off | The app or phone’s power settings may suspend background activity. | Test with the intended screen and battery settings. The YouTube encoder instructions do not guarantee screen-off playback for an app. |
| Video freezes or stream health degrades | Upload capacity or stability may be insufficient for the selected settings. | Reduce bitrate or resolution, test on the actual connection, and monitor stream health. A carrier or location’s performance cannot be inferred from the platform’s recommended bitrates. |
| Stream is interrupted for a content match | YouTube has detected third-party material. | Use content cleared for the broadcast; for licensed content, ask the rights owner about a Content ID allowlist. |
| Live video exists but the archive is incomplete or missing | A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. | For future broadcasts, use shorter sessions and keep a local backup when feasible. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a YouTube stream key let an Android phone loop a video?
No. The key connects an encoder to YouTube; local-file playback and looping must be supported by the encoder app.
Can I use mobile data for a 24/7 stream in India?
That depends on sustained upload quality and your data plan. Test the actual handset, carrier, and location at the bitrate you intend to use.
