Check the Live Control Room preview and click Go live unless the event is set to auto-start. Scheduling creates the event and watch page; it does not start OBS or make the video loop by itself.
How the scheduled event and loop fit together
The setup has two separate parts: YouTube Studio creates the scheduled broadcast, while OBS sends the video and audio feed. The scheduled event can appear as upcoming, and viewers can opt into a notification. The loop runs in OBS only while that media source is active. YouTube’s API documentation likewise treats a broadcast and its incoming stream as separate resources: YouTube Live Streaming API: broadcasts.
You need a local video file, OBS Studio, a computer that can run it, and an upload connection capable of sending the stream. OBS’s Media Source is documented for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This method is for sending prerecorded video as a live feed, not for playing directly from a camera.
1. Set the video to loop in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and create or select the scene you want to use.
- In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source.
- Name the source, then select the local video file in its properties.
- Enable Loop. The default is off, so verify this setting before the event.
- Check that the video is visible in the scene and that its audio is routed as intended. Play it in OBS and confirm both picture and sound.

For a playlist instead of one repeating file
Add a VLC Video source and select the files for the sequence. It offers playlist looping and shuffle controls; loop playlist is enabled by default. VLC must be installed for this source to be available. Use this when you want a sequence of videos rather than one file repeating. OBS documents both source types in its Media Sources guide.
2. Schedule the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- Open Manage and select Schedule Stream.
- Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream. Set the title, description, visibility, and scheduled time, then review the other event settings.
- If you reuse settings, check the copied details—including the stream key and auto-start or auto-stop controls—before proceeding. Reuse settings can copy metadata, settings, and the key from the earlier stream.
Scheduling gives viewers an upcoming event page and the option to receive a notification; it does not start the encoder at the scheduled time. Follow YouTube’s scheduled live stream instructions.

3. Connect OBS to the scheduled event
In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube if OBS offers the account or service connection you want to use. Otherwise, copy the scheduled event’s server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. Use the details for the correct event.
Treat the stream key as a credential. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not share it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

4. Start the feed and verify the event
- At least 15 minutes before the event, start streaming from OBS so it sends the loop to YouTube.
- Open the scheduled event’s Live Control Room and wait for the preview.
- Check that the preview shows the intended video and that the audio is present and clear. Confirm the stream is connected and watch its health indicators.
- If auto-start is off, select Go live only after checking the preview. If auto-start is on, confirm the event’s actual setting and watch for the event to go live.
- Check the public watch page and, if practical, verify access from a phone as well as the streaming computer.
YouTube recommends preparing the encoder at least two hours ahead, starting it at least 15 minutes before the event, checking preview and access, and monitoring audio and video. These are YouTube’s preparation intervals, not a guarantee that a particular connection will be ready. Consult its live streaming tips.
Choose the stream settings for your source and connection
Use YouTube’s published encoder settings for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate. There is no single bitrate that suits every video and upload connection: match the output to the source, encoder, and available upload capacity. Test with representative motion and audio, monitor stream health, and use RTMPS for encrypted transport where supported. The current guidance is in YouTube’s encoder settings.

5. Monitor the stream and end the event
During the broadcast, monitor picture, sound, stream health, and the public watch page. For a manually controlled event, select End Stream in YouTube when the broadcast is finished, then stop streaming in OBS. If auto-stop is enabled, follow that event’s configured behavior and verify the event has ended.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume an event longer than that will receive the same automatic archive treatment. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

Copyright and channel considerations
Using a video you can play in OBS does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. Make sure you have the rights or licenses needed for both the footage and any soundtrack, including permission for live rebroadcast where applicable. These setup steps cannot determine whether a particular video is cleared for your channel.
Keep the stream useful and distinctive for viewers. A loop setting only repeats playback; it does not resolve questions about copyright or whether a channel’s content meets YouTube’s monetization policies. Review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies before relying on monetization for repetitive or reused material.
Troubleshooting
- The video stops after one play: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. Check that you edited the source used by the active scene.
- The event is scheduled but not live: Start OBS; the schedule alone does not send video. Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then select Go live if auto-start is disabled.
- YouTube shows no preview: Confirm OBS is streaming, the correct event’s server URL and key are in use, and the connection is active. If you reused settings, verify that the key belongs to the intended event.
- OBS connects to the wrong event or cannot connect: Recheck the event’s stream URL and key. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS.
- There is no sound or the levels are wrong: Play the source in OBS before going live, inspect its audio routing and mixer levels, and confirm the preview carries the expected sound.
- The stream looks unstable: Check YouTube’s stream health and compare the encoder output with the published settings for the selected resolution and frame rate. Test with representative motion and audio rather than assuming one bitrate fits all connections.
- The playlist source is unavailable: Install VLC, then add a VLC Video source. For one file, use OBS’s built-in Media Source instead.
- The broadcast ends but no archive appears: Check whether it was under 12 hours; YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under that duration.
