For reliable continuity, test the full playback path, keep an independent copy of the archive, and plan stream sessions rather than assuming YouTube will capture one uninterrupted broadcast indefinitely. If you do not want a computer running at home, StreamNeo can play uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube.
1. Organize and check the episode videos
Start with finished episode files, not a folder of unreviewed exports. Decide whether viewers should hear episodes chronologically, by topic, or in another sequence, then arrange the playlist accordingly. Confirm that each file has the intended picture, audio track, and episode graphics, and that the opening and ending are suitable for playback in a continuous broadcast.
- Use consistent, descriptive filenames so the playlist order is easy to verify.
- Check representative files from the beginning, middle, and end of the proposed sequence, including audio levels and transitions.
- Keep an independent copy of the source archive. An external SSD is one option; YouTube also recommends local recording as a backup.
These are practical preparation checks, not a YouTube-mandated archive format or automated preparation standard.
2. Choose how the archive will run
| Approach | Best suited to | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio on a local computer | Creators who want direct control and have the files locally. | The computer, media files, and network connection must remain available; plan monitoring and stream restarts. |
| StreamNeo cloud playback | Creators who want uploaded videos to play continuously without leaving a computer on. | It streams uploaded videos to YouTube; review your playlist, storage needs, and chosen billing duration. |
| Other cloud services | Creators comparing unattended prerecorded-video playback. | YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a 24/7 prerecorded-video tool, but the cited guide does not establish current pricing, guarantees, or service terms. |
For a DIY setup, the steps below use OBS. StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider: it runs always-on playback from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

3. Set up a looping playlist in OBS
Install and prepare the media source
OBS’s official media-source documentation lists local support for formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. For a playlist with multiple items and a loop control, use OBS’s VLC Video source; VLC must be installed for that source to appear. The OBS Media Sources documentation is dated January 11, 2022, so exact interface details can vary by installed OBS and VLC version. See OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC on the computer that will run the stream.
- In OBS, select or create the scene for the broadcast. Under Sources, add a VLC Video Source.
- In the source properties, add the episode files in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the archive should repeat after the final item.
- Confirm the source is visible in the preview and that its audio is routed to the OBS audio mixer.
If the archive is a single video, OBS’s Media Source can play a local file; check its looping setting if you want that one file to repeat. Keep the media available at the same local path while OBS is running.

4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Confirm channel eligibility and create an encoder stream
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned launch. Follow YouTube’s live-stream setup guide to create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio/Live Control Room.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room; create or schedule a stream using an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube or the relevant YouTube service option, and enter the stream details. If the interface offers account connection instead, follow its current prompts.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, include it in a screenshot, or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast.
See YouTube stream settings for the current stream URL and key guidance.

5. Choose encoder settings and run a representative test
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS. It lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 for video; AAC or MP3 for audio; constant bitrate (CBR); a recommended two-second keyframe interval with four seconds as the maximum; and 128 Kbps for stereo audio. See YouTube encoder settings. The appropriate resolution and video bitrate depend on the source and the upload connection; choose a sustainable setting rather than assuming the highest available quality will work reliably.
- In OBS output settings, select a video encoder and configure CBR; set the keyframe interval to two seconds where the encoder exposes that setting.
- Use a resolution and bitrate supported by the source material and stable upload bandwidth. YouTube’s guide includes recommendations by resolution and frame rate; consult it for the target you select.
- Set audio to AAC or MP3 and, for stereo, use the cited 128 Kbps recommendation.
- Start an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream before announcing the broadcast. Play material with motion and audio similar to the actual episodes.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, then listen and watch for picture, sync, and audio problems. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover test and monitoring guidance.
6. Plan continuity, monitoring, and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends a local recording as a backup. That makes a single indefinite session a poor archive strategy: retain the original files or a separate recording, and plan manageable session boundaries and restarts. Read YouTube’s live archive guidance.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Decide who or what will detect a stopped stream and restart it.
- Make sure the playlist files remain available for the entire local broadcast.
- Do not rely on YouTube’s archive as the only copy of the episodes or the live session.
- Schedule a restart plan that accounts for the archive limit; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
7. Clear livestream rights for every episode
Having permission to publish an episode as a normal video does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast it continuously as Live Content. YouTube’s livestream terms state that the provider represents and warrants having the rights needed to exploit Live Content on Google services worldwide. Check the rights for the episode recording and every incorporated element, including intro music, guest clips, archival footage, photographs, and sound effects. See YouTube livestream terms.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can interrupt or terminate a stream; even a license may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance, and do not treat a successful test as proof that all rights issues are resolved.

8. Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. Instead of leaving OBS and a local computer running, prepare the episodes and playlist, upload them, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the videos from the cloud and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
- Nothing has to stay on at home.
- Your uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required; one free day is available per account.
Every slot includes 10 GB of storage per slot, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is included on each plan; only the billing duration changes. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. India-based customers can use UPI or cards; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. Details are at StreamNeo.

9. Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video source is missing in OBS | VLC is not installed or the installed setup is not recognized. | Install VLC, restart OBS, and check the Sources add menu again. |
| Playlist is blank or an item will not play | File path, format, or local availability problem. | Open the file locally, check the path and file access, and confirm it is among the supported media types in the OBS documentation. |
| Playlist stops after the last episode | Looping is not enabled. | Open VLC Video source properties and turn on Loop Playlist. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder stream | Incorrect stream URL/key, channel not yet eligible, or encoder/network issue. | Recheck the Live Control Room stream details and channel eligibility; allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| Stream health reports instability | Chosen output may exceed what the upload connection can sustain. | Test at a lower sustainable resolution or bitrate and recheck CBR and keyframe settings against YouTube’s encoder guide. |
| Broadcast is interrupted despite a license | A third-party Content ID match may require channel allowlisting. | Contact the rights holder about allowlisting and review YouTube’s copyright process before restarting. |
10. Stream costs and operating trade-offs
A local OBS workflow uses your existing computer and connection, but you must account for the time and availability needed to run, monitor, and restart it. For cloud operation, StreamNeo offers these durations at one flat price per slot:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year
Billing can be for a day, a week, a month, six months, or a year, and can be cancelled any time. Use the upload-time calculator to estimate how long sending your archive may take, and the cloud vs. PC cost calculator to compare the operating model. Before scheduling a continuous stream, also check the copyright safety checklist.
