You can run recorded films continuously on YouTube Live by first verifying the rights to every film and edition, then playing a cleared local playlist through an encoder connected to a YouTube Live stream. The difficult part is not pressing “Go Live”: it is proving what you may stream, keeping the playback computer and connection running, responding to YouTube interruptions, and deciding how to preserve the broadcast. YouTube’s ordinary live-stream guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation or a complete archive of a stream longer than 12 hours.
Start with rights, not the playlist
A film’s age, an archive’s catalog entry, or a “public domain” label is not, by itself, proof that you may stream that particular file everywhere. YouTube says there is no official comprehensive public-domain list and places the responsibility for verification on the uploader. Copyright rules also vary by country or region, so assess the intended territories rather than assuming that a U.S. status applies worldwide.
Streaming is a public performance. The U.S. Copyright Office identifies public performance as one of the copyright owner’s exclusive rights for motion pictures and other audiovisual works. It says works published in the United States before January 1, 1931 are currently in the public domain in the United States. That rule is limited to the stated country and publication cutoff; it does not establish the status of a later film, a particular version, or a film in another territory.
Check the exact version and its components
Review the film you will actually broadcast, not just the underlying title. A print or restoration can include elements with their own provenance or rights questions, including an added score, soundtrack recording, title cards, translation, subtitles, or artwork. This is a practical clearance check, not a claim that any particular element is protected: the status depends on the material and its history.

For each film, keep a rights ledger with the exact title and version, known production and publication facts, evidence for the claimed status, where the digital file came from, included music and other additions, intended territories, and the date you checked. Save catalog records, screenshots, source files, and rights correspondence together. If you cannot establish the status of an element, do not assume the rest of the film’s status covers it.
Prepare a continuous program that can recover from a bad file
Build a playback queue from the local files you have cleared. Watch or review the sequence before putting it on air: check transitions, aspect ratios, audio levels, titles, and credits. A corrupted file or playback stall can interrupt an otherwise healthy stream, so consider short breaks or slates between films and decide what the queue should do if one file fails. Keep a separate local copy of the source files and rights records.

Plan the program as an operating process, not a set-and-forget playlist. Assign someone to check the stream, respond to notices, and restart or switch over if the computer, encoder, or network fails. Test for longer than a brief preview; a short successful test does not establish that a system will run continuously.
Set up YouTube Live and the encoder
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube’s official checklist recommends enabling Live ahead of launch and verifying the channel. First-time activation can take time, so do not make the first activation your scheduled start.
- Create or schedule the event in Live Control Room. Set the title, description, and privacy setting. A private test is useful for checking the complete playback and encoder chain before a public launch.
- Copy the event’s stream key into the encoder. Use the key associated with that YouTube event. Google’s production guide says the key must match for the stream to start. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
- Configure playback and encoding, then test. OBS Studio is one encoder option. Its Auto Configuration Wizard can provide a starting point; test it with the actual film source and network rather than assuming the initial setup is suitable for a continuous broadcast. The sources reviewed do not establish a recommended bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or computer specification for this film-loop use case, so use YouTube’s current encoder guidance and confirm the result in the live preview.
- Wait for YouTube’s incoming preview and status, then select Go Live. Check that the expected picture and sound arrive before making the event public. Keep the Live Control Room available to watch for warnings or a dropped connection.
What to watch in OBS
OBS is free and open source under GPLv2, and its official help says it can be used commercially. OBS connects from the computer directly to the streaming service, so the computer and its network remain part of the live chain. OBS’s help identifies rising dropped-frame counts or a yellow or red connection indicator as signs that the connection may be unstable or unable to keep up with the selected bitrate. If you see them, investigate the connection and encoder load, then test again before relying on the setup.

Operate the stream and prepare for interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match may trigger a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination even if you believe the material is cleared. A stream containing licensed content may also be interrupted unless the rights owner has allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Keep your evidence accessible and have a human operator ready to review a warning or respond to a platform notice; do not assume that a “public domain” label prevents an automated match.
- Check YouTube Studio for warnings and strikes as part of the operating schedule.
- Decide who is authorized to respond to Content ID or other platform notices, and how that person can reach the rights records.
- Write down how to restart the encoder and playback queue, and what to do if the computer or network is unavailable.
- Use a stable connection and test the entire setup for an extended period before treating it as ready for round-the-clock use.
The official materials reviewed do not establish a hardware specification, a guaranteed uptime figure, or a platform-supported one-click 24/7 playlist service. A continuous broadcast therefore needs monitoring and a recovery plan; neither an encoder nor a successful test removes the possibility of an interruption.

Decide how to handle the YouTube archive
Google’s production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not establish that a longer 24/7 stream will be archived as one complete video. Do not promise viewers a single complete replay based on that guidance alone.
Before launch, check YouTube Studio’s current archive behavior and choose a separate preservation plan. Options include running shorter scheduled sessions, making a parallel local recording, or publishing separate on-demand uploads. Each approach has different restart and file-management demands; confirm the workflow you choose rather than relying on an assumed archive of the live stream.

Budget for the full operating setup
OBS itself is a no-cost software option according to its official help, but a do-it-yourself broadcast also depends on a computer, power, storage for the source files, and a network connection that can stay available. The reviewed guidance does not specify minimum hardware or give a cost estimate for a 24/7 film stream, so compare actual equipment and ongoing connection costs for your situation rather than treating one computer configuration as universal.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. The three-step setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps playback running without your computer or home connection staying on, and it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and it does not clear film rights for you: verify the rights to every film and version before uploading.
Every slot supports 24/7 looping and playlists, one always-on stream, and video at the quality uploaded up to 4K 60fps without re-encoding or quality tiers. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across your active slots, and support from the StreamNeo team. Plans have the same product features; the billing period can be a day, a week, a month, 6 months, or a year, with cancellation any time. The first day is free with no card, once per account. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. For an Indian channel, UPI is available. To try it, start a StreamNeo account.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBefore choosing either setup, check the film rights, the stream’s behavior, and the archive plan separately: uninterrupted playback does not make a film cleared, and a live broadcast does not guarantee a complete replay.
