For a 24/7 Indian radio-style YouTube stream, use a small OBS Scene Collection with one calm, readable On Air scene, a simple fallback scene, and an optional opening or schedule scene only if your programming needs one. Keep the visual design light, use only audio sources the broadcast needs, and show track details only when they come from dependable metadata. OBS does not prescribe a radio template; this is a practical layout recommendation, not a tested or official preset.
Build a small scene collection around the broadcast
In OBS, scenes and sources form the stream layout: scenes arrange the images, text, media, and devices that appear in the output. A Scene Collection groups related scenes, while a Profile stores stream, video, and output settings. Keep the radio stream’s visual scenes together in a focused collection and use a profile for its YouTube output configuration rather than mixing unrelated show layouts into one large collection. OBS explains these features in its Overview Guide and Profiles guide.
Main / On Air
- Use a station logo or static station artwork as the background. A restrained visualizer is optional if it serves the program rather than distracting from it.
- Give the station or program name a clear place in the visual hierarchy. Keep text large and legible on both mobile screens and televisions.
- Add current-track text only if a reliable metadata source keeps it accurate. Stale or incorrect track information is worse than none.
- Include only the audio sources needed for the broadcast, and verify their routing before going live.
Fallback / Maintenance
- Prepare a static card such as “Technical issue” or “Back shortly” for a source interruption or scheduled maintenance.
- Decide intentionally what happens to audio when this scene is shown; do not assume a visual transition also fixes an audio problem.
- Use the scene to communicate an interruption, not as a substitute for monitoring the live broadcast.
Opening / Schedule (optional)
Add an opening or schedule scene only when there is a meaningful program handoff or schedule to communicate. For continuous programming, the main scene can remain live without an unnecessary intro or ending sequence. These names and arrangements are suggestions, not OBS requirements.
Keep the visual design readable without overloading OBS
A radio-style stream usually does not need a busy screen. OBS notes that sources consume resources, including some hidden sources, and that browser sources, filters, and large media can add load. For static artwork or overlays, prefer appropriately sized image files over complex animated elements; reduce browser-source dimensions and remove sources or filters that do not serve a clear purpose. OBS’s encoding performance guide discusses these remedies, but does not promise a particular performance gain for this layout.

Set the Base (Canvas) Resolution to the work area you use to arrange sources, then choose an Output (Scaled) Resolution that fits the artwork, audience, and encoding capacity. OBS distinguishes the canvas from the stream or recording output; it does not establish one universally best resolution for a radio visual. Choose FPS to match the desired output. A mostly static scene does not inherently need a high frame rate, and OBS cautions that 60 fps can require more resources than 30 fps. Select bitrate, resolution, and encoder based on your system, upload connection, visual motion, and YouTube’s current recommendations rather than treating one setting as right for every channel. Test the complete scene and operating workflow
- Organize the project: create a focused Scene Collection for the radio stream and a Profile for its YouTube stream, video, and output settings.
- Assemble the main scene: add the artwork, station or program identity, any trustworthy track metadata, and the required audio sources. Check that text remains legible at the intended output size.
- Prepare interruption handling: create the fallback scene and test its visual and audio behavior. Confirm that the sources you expect are visible and routed correctly.
- Run a test recording or test stream: check the main scene, transitions, audio, fallback content, and what happens after a network or source interruption. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing before the real broadcast.
- Check YouTube before and during the broadcast: review the Live Control Room preview before starting, check the stream on the channel or watch page and on mobile, and monitor audio and video quality while live.
- Leave network margin: YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above the stream’s bitrate requirements. This is operational guidance, not an uptime guarantee.
- Verify local recording: if you are making a local archive, confirm that its files are growing during the stream rather than assuming YouTube will preserve the whole broadcast.
Plan for archives separately from a 24/7 live schedule
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; the guidance recommends a local archive backup. “Can be” is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be archived under every circumstance. If preserving recordings matters, plan local recording, storage, and retention as a separate workflow instead of relying on one uninterrupted 24/7 YouTube archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Clear music and visual rights before launch
For a radio-style stream, music clearance is a launch requirement. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold the rights needed to exploit live content worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights and territory requirements. YouTube says it scans live broadcasts for third-party content; if identified material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance and arrange any required allowlisting with the owner.
YouTube’s safe-music guidance says music is safe for YouTube if it is public domain or the creator has permission from the copyright owner. A “free” label or a track credit alone does not establish permission: check the particular license for the intended use. For an India-targeted broadcast, the cited YouTube pages do not provide a complete India-specific rights checklist. Confirm permissions for the relevant tracks, territories, live transmission, and any archive or replay; do not assume live permission also covers archived use.
