That source displays text; it does not automatically detect which video is playing. For changing playlists, you also need something to update the text file, such as a compatible plugin or a script or other integration.
Set up the title display in OBS
- Add a Text source. In the scene used for the 24/7 video, add a Text source and place it above the video source in the source list. OBS Text Sources can display custom text from a file. OBS Project: Text Sources
- Connect the text file. Open the Text source properties, enable the text-from-file option, and select the file containing the title. Style and position the text so viewers can read it against the video.
- Choose how the title will be updated. For a fixed title, you can maintain the file yourself. If the video changes and the label should follow it, configure a plugin, script, or other integration to write the current title into the file. The Text source displays the file’s contents; it does not identify arbitrary playing video or update the file by itself.
Choose an updater for changing playlists
VLC Video Source with the Tuna plugin
If your playlist plays through OBS’s VLC Video Source, Tuna is a possible route for displaying current media information. OBS documents playlist support for the VLC Video Source and notes that VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. OBS Project: VLC Video Source Tuna’s listing describes media information support, but check its compatibility with your installed OBS release and operating system, and test that it exposes the title field you want. Script or other integration
An integration can read or receive the playing item’s title and write it to the file used by the Text source. The important requirement is that it can reliably identify the current item and update the file when playback changes. The OBS Text source alone does neither.
Browser Source overlay
For a custom title card, add a Browser Source and load a URL or local page. Set the source dimensions to fit the scene, then implement a way for the page or a companion integration to receive and refresh the current title. A Browser Source renders the page; it is not a universal detector for titles from other media sources. OBS Project: Browser Source

Verify transitions and restarts
- Check the actual stream output—not just the OBS preview—to confirm that the title is legible.
- Move to another playlist item and confirm the displayed title changes.
- Check what happens when an item’s title metadata is missing; clear or replace stale text rather than leaving the previous video’s title on screen.
- Restart OBS and verify that the source and updater still work.
