Looping controls playback; it does not prevent network drops. A stable, sustained upload connection and a full preflight test are essential.
How do I loop a video on YouTube Live?
Use OBS Studio’s Media Source for the local video file. Its Loop option starts the file again after it reaches the end; YouTube does not need a separate loop setting for this workflow. OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM among supported video types. See OBS Media Sources.
- Add the file: In OBS, add a Media Source to a scene and select the video file. Confirm that it plays in the preview.
- Enable repetition: Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. Let playback reach the end and verify that it starts again as expected.
- Set the output: Configure OBS’s output canvas and stream output to the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. Match the settings to the source and the encoder you plan to use.
- Connect YouTube: Create or schedule the YouTube live stream, obtain its stream key in YouTube Live Control Room, and enter the key in OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Test before broadcasting: Start a test stream using representative movement and audio. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before relying on the setup for a longer broadcast.
YouTube can automatically detect resolution and frame rate in Live Control Room. Custom stream keys can also be configured for manual resolution settings. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover connecting an encoder and starting a stream: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
What bitrate do I need for 4K YouTube Live?
YouTube’s current encoder guidance varies by codec and frame rate. The table below reproduces its published values for 2160p (4K); the AV1/H.265 columns are a minimum and maximum, while the H.264 column is a recommendation. They are encoder guidance, not a promise that a particular internet connection can sustain the stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Output | AV1/H.265 minimum | AV1/H.265 maximum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2160p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | 35 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p at 60 fps | 10 Mbps | 40 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
These figures are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance, whose current support page does not state a publication year. Check that page for the full table and any changes before configuring a production stream.
Set the other encoder parameters
- Protocol and codec: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1. Choose settings supported by your encoder and follow the matching codec guidance.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: Send the intended output, such as 2160p30 or 2160p60, and use the bitrate guidance for that exact combination rather than treating one number as universal.
- Latency: YouTube’s 4K/2160p streams use normal latency; its low-latency option is unavailable at that resolution.
YouTube recommends choosing a quality your internet connection can reliably handle, checking upload speed, and testing before going live. A speed-test result is only a snapshot, not proof that the connection will sustain the configured bitrate throughout a broadcast. Leave capacity for other network use instead of setting the stream at the edge of a best-case result.

How do I stream a pre-recorded video on YouTube Live?
The OBS method above sends a prerecorded file as the live program output: OBS plays the media source and sends its output through the stream key. Confirm that you have the right to use the video and audio in a livestream. A live format does not remove copyright obligations, and this workflow does not guarantee that YouTube will accept, recommend, or monetize a particular video.
Before the public broadcast, test the complete chain—from file playback and audio through OBS encoding to YouTube’s preview. Check YouTube’s live streaming tips and monitor stream health while live. If the video is long or intended to repeat continuously, verify that the file restarts correctly in OBS before leaving it unattended.

Why is OBS dropping frames?
OBS says: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” In other words, network-dropped frames concern delivery between OBS and YouTube; they are different from a media source failing to repeat or a computer struggling to render or encode. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Check the connection and configured bitrate
- Compare the configured bitrate with sustained upload capacity, not just a short speed-test peak. If the connection cannot reliably carry the selected output, reduce the bitrate or choose a lower resolution or frame rate.
- Use Ethernet if possible. OBS notes that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming; a wired connection can address local wireless instability but cannot guarantee a stable ISP route or YouTube ingest connection.
- Check whether other software or local network use is competing for upload capacity, and review OBS’s dropped-frame counter alongside YouTube’s stream health information.
- OBS describes dynamic bitrate adjustment as a way to reduce bitrate during congestion. It can help maintain delivery, but it does not fix the underlying connection problem and may reduce video quality.
- If drops continue after local checks, OBS advises contacting your internet service provider with details of the problem.
Tell network drops apart from rendering or encoding trouble
The OBS connection guide cited above explains network drops. If OBS reports no network-dropped frames but the video still stutters, investigate rendering or encoding performance separately rather than assuming that the loop setting or network bitrate is responsible. YouTube’s setup guidance recognizes both software and hardware encoders; a dedicated hardware encoder is not required simply to loop a local file.

Preflight checklist for a 4K loop
- Confirm the Media Source plays and repeats after the file ends.
- Check OBS output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s guidance for the selected output.
- Run a test with representative motion and audio, then inspect the Live Control Room preview.
- Confirm the upload connection can sustain the configured bitrate with room for other use.
- During the broadcast, monitor OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube stream health.
- If problems appear, identify whether they involve file playback, network delivery, or rendering/encoding before changing settings.
- Account for normal latency: YouTube does not offer low-latency mode for 2160p streams.
