Choose the right YouTube feature for who should receive the money: use Super Chat or Super Stickers for paid creator support, or YouTube Giving to raise money for an eligible nonprofit. Super Chats and Super Stickers are not charitable donations, and a stream using YouTube Giving’s Live Chat Donations cannot use either feature at the same time.
Choose between creator support and nonprofit donations
YouTube offers two different kinds of live-stream funding. The distinction matters both to viewers and to the recipient of the money.

If you want viewers to support you personally, do not label Super Chat or Super Stickers as charitable donations. The official sources cited here do not establish a particular external personal-donation service, its YouTube integration, fees, availability by country, or terms; verify those details with a provider before directing viewers to one.
How do I collect donations during a YouTube live stream?
For nonprofit fundraising, first check that YouTube Giving is available to your channel and that the organization qualifies. Then create or join a fundraiser and attach it to the scheduled live stream. YouTube’s FAQ describes the donate button appearing in live chat when chat is enabled, or beside or below the stream when live chat is not enabled. The exact controls available to your account can be checked in YouTube Studio.

Check channel and nonprofit eligibility
- YouTube’s FAQ lists these creator conditions for YouTube Giving: the channel is based in an available location, participates in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), has at least 10,000 subscribers, and is not designated as made for kids.
- The FAQ notes that some channels may see fundraising even outside those listed criteria, so check the actual options shown in YouTube Studio rather than treating the thresholds as a guarantee of access.
- The nonprofit must be requested by a creator, be a US-registered 501(c)(3) public charity, be opted into online fundraising through GuideStar, and follow YouTube monetization policies. Private foundations are not supported, according to the FAQ.
- YouTube’s listed fundraising locations include Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Availability can change; confirm the current list on YouTube’s Giving FAQ.
Set up the fundraiser for the stream
- In YouTube Studio, confirm your channel’s YouTube Giving access and check that the intended nonprofit is eligible.
- Create a fundraiser or join an existing one, following the options shown in YouTube Studio.
- Attach the fundraiser to the scheduled live stream. The YouTube Giving FAQ says viewers can use the donate button in live chat when chat is enabled; without live chat, the button appears beside or below the stream.
- Before going live, verify that the fundraiser and donate button are visible in the stream’s watch-page or chat experience. Do not plan to use Super Chat or Super Stickers on a stream with Live Chat Donations, because YouTube disables them for that stream.
YouTube says adding a fundraiser does not affect ads. For eligible nonprofit requests, the FAQ says review can take up to five business days, so allow time before a scheduled event.
How can viewers support the creator with Super Chat or Super Stickers?
For creator support rather than charitable giving, check the Earn or monetization area in YouTube Studio for fan-funding access. YouTube’s policy says creators must be accepted into YPP, agree to the applicable commerce terms, meet the particular feature’s requirements, and turn the relevant feature on in YouTube Studio or its mobile app.

The general minimum criteria listed by YouTube include YPP participation, being at least 18 years old, and being in a country or region where the specific feature is available. Individual features can have additional conditions, so being in YPP alone does not establish that Super Chat or Super Stickers is available to your account. Can I use Super Chat and YouTube Giving at the same time?
No—not on a live stream with Live Chat Donations. YouTube says Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on streams using that feature. You also cannot have a members-only live chat with the donate button. Decide which interaction fits the stream: paid creator-facing chat visibility, or the nonprofit fundraiser’s donate button. Where does nonprofit donation money go?
YouTube’s Giving FAQ says, “100% of your contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube will pay transaction fees.” It says Google partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute funds. The FAQ says Network for Good typically distributes funds monthly; if less than $10 was raised, distribution is annual. These details describe YouTube Giving’s nonprofit fund flow, not Super Chat or Super Stickers.
