Soundtrack by Twitch has been discontinued. Twitch’s official starting shortlist for streamers names Chillhop Music, NCS, Outertone by RouteNote, Pretzel by Songtradr, StreamBeats, and Monstercat Gold. None should be treated as a blanket guarantee that every track is cleared for every use: check the current license for Twitch live streams, VODs, clips, monetization, and any other platform where you publish.
What happened to Soundtrack by Twitch?
Twitch announced in June 2023 that Soundtrack would shut down. In a July 17, 2023 update, Twitch said its Soundtrack API endpoints had been removed from documentation and returned HTTP 410, and directed developers to its music-options page. Twitch’s shutdown notice establishes that Soundtrack is no longer a current option.
Soundtrack’s former appeal was a curated collection of rights-cleared music integrated with streaming software, with music separated into its own audio channel. Those are historical features, not capabilities to assume in a replacement. Twitch’s September 30, 2020 launch post said the beta required OBS Studio v26.0 or later on PC and that Twitch Studio and Streamlabs OBS compatibility would follow; that announcement does not establish present-day compatibility for any service. Read Twitch’s launch announcement.
Twitch’s named alternatives
Twitch’s Music Options for Streamers page names these six services. Its catalog counts are explicitly qualified as applying “at time of posting,” and its price labels are not verified current prices. Treat the list as a place to begin checking, not a present-day ranking or an assurance about license scope.

How to choose a replacement safely
Match the license to every destination
Check the terms for the exact uses you intend: live Twitch broadcasts, Twitch VODs, clips, monetization, and any reposting or simulcasting to other services. Permission for one use or platform should not be assumed to cover another. Also check whether a license is tied to a particular account or channel and what happens to archived broadcasts if a plan ends or the terms change.

Check the audio workflow
Find out whether the service works with your streaming software and whether you can route music separately from your game, microphone, and other audio. Soundtrack historically offered a separate music channel; do not assume a replacement does the same. Separate routing can matter when managing VODs, but it does not itself create music rights.
Choose a catalog for the format
Look for music that suits the broadcast—such as chatting, gaming, or a documentary discussion—and assess search, mood, and playlist tools. A headline track count alone says little about whether the catalog fits your show. Twitch’s displayed catalog numbers are time-qualified by Twitch as “at time of posting,” not guarantees of what is available now.

Review attribution, access, and cost
- Confirm whether attribution is required and how it must be displayed or spoken.
- Check current free-tier or trial terms, paid-plan price, geographic availability, and whether monetized or sponsored streams are permitted.
- Read the current provider terms directly before publishing or relying on archived content; Twitch’s historical price labels do not establish current rates.
Copyright, VODs, and clips still need attention
Twitch’s November 11, 2020 guidance says: “Most importantly, don’t play recorded music in your stream unless you own all rights in the music, or you have the permission of the necessary rights holder(s).” Twitch also advised checking a game’s EULA when recorded music is built into a game, and considering disabling VODs and Clips if rights are unclear. Because this guidance is dated, consult Twitch’s post and current Twitch policy for rules that apply now.
These services may offer music under defined terms, but no library can be assumed to make every track safe for every platform, archive, or use, or to prevent every claim. A license that covers live use may not cover VODs, clips, or cross-posting; read the actual grant of rights rather than relying on the phrase “copyright-safe.”

Is there a multistream alternative?
A music service’s permission for Twitch does not establish permission for another destination. If you multistream or repost, verify that the license explicitly covers each platform and the relevant live and archived uses. Twitch’s shortlist is not evidence that a service grants universal cross-platform rights.
What about YouTube Creator Music?
YouTube Creator Music is a separate, platform-specific option—not a direct replacement for music on Twitch. YouTube’s help page says it is available to U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators and indicates paid licenses were to be phased out starting August 2026. Availability and terms can change, so check YouTube’s current Creator Music information before relying on it.
