Streamlabs says the YouTube stream must be public for Cloudbot to join chat and respond; private and unlisted tests will not work for this purpose.
Before you set up Cloudbot
Sign in to Streamlabs and the Google account that manages your YouTube channel. If you use Cloudbot with more than one supported platform, Streamlabs’ Quick Guide: Setting Up Streamlabs Cloudbot recommends linking the channels under Account Settings > Platforms. The basic YouTube setup does not require timers, rewards, or media sharing; those are optional additions.
Enable Cloudbot and grant YouTube access
- Turn on the bot. In the Streamlabs web dashboard, open Cloudbot and select Enable Cloudbot.
- Add Streamlabs as a moderator. In YouTube Studio, open Settings > Community and add the Streamlabs channel specified in Streamlabs’ setup instructions as a moderator. This moderator permission lets the bot participate in your channel’s chat.
- Use a public stream to test. Start or schedule the stream with its visibility set to public. Streamlabs says Cloudbot must be able to join a public YouTube stream to trigger commands.

Set up chat commands
Open Commands in the Streamlabs dashboard. You can enable built-in commands or create custom ones; permissions differ by command, so check who is allowed to use each one before relying on it in a live chat. Streamlabs covers both command types in its guide to adding chat commands for Twitch and YouTube.

Enable and edit built-in commands
- In Commands, review the default commands and toggle on only the ones you want.
- Open a command’s settings to edit its response or permissions where those options are available.
- Check whether it is available to viewers or restricted to moderators. Some commands may also have a cooldown or loyalty-point requirement.
Create a custom command
- In Commands, open the Custom tab.
- Create a command and enter its response. Streamlabs provides custom text, templates, and variables for responses.
- Set who may use it, then save and test it in public-stream chat using the exact command spelling.
Choose moderation protections
Under Mod Tools, choose a Protection Level preset or enable individual protections, such as filters for caps and links. Where a tool offers a strictness setting, adjust it to suit your chat. A preset is a quicker starting point; individual controls let you tune specific protections rather than applying one broad setting.
Optional: add timers, rewards, or media sharing
Scheduled chat timers
Timers post messages on a schedule, subject to both an interval and a minimum-chat-lines condition. Turn on the timer and choose values that fit your stream; the minimum-line check uses only messages from the preceding five minutes, according to Streamlabs’ Cloudbot 101 guide. A timer may therefore wait rather than post if chat has not met its line minimum.

Loyalty and rewards
Cloudbot also offers viewer loyalty and reward features. These are optional engagement tools, not prerequisites for commands or moderation. If a command depends on loyalty points, account for that requirement when testing what ordinary viewers can use.
Media sharing and viewer requests
Streamlabs documents an optional media-sharing integration for viewer song or video requests. Before enabling it, review its protection level, queue limit, maximum duration, per-user request limit, skip-vote settings, and music-only option. Set these deliberately: a request feature gives viewers a way to submit media, so queue and content controls matter. See Streamlabs’ media-sharing setup guide.

Troubleshoot Cloudbot on YouTube

| Cloudbot does not join or respond | Confirm the livestream is public, Cloudbot is enabled, and the Streamlabs channel has moderator access in YouTube Studio. Streamlabs identifies public visibility as a requirement for the bot to join and trigger commands. See its Cloudbot troubleshooting guide. |
| A command does not trigger | Check that the command is enabled and typed correctly, then verify the chatter has permission to use it. Also check any cooldown or loyalty-points requirement. |
| A timer does not post | Verify the timer is enabled and that both its interval and line minimum are satisfied. The line minimum is evaluated using chat from the last five minutes. |
| The bot name or account changed | If you changed the bot name, Streamlabs recommends relogging, then turning Cloudbot off and back on. When troubleshooting a connection, its guide also suggests disconnecting and reconnecting Streamlabs services. |
