How to Add Widgets to OBS Studio and XSplit Broadcaster

Use a Browser Source in OBS or Add Source > Webpage in XSplit to add a widget URL, then size it and arrange its layer in your scene.

Add a widget to OBS Studio with a Browser Source, or to XSplit Broadcaster with Add Source > Webpage. Paste in the widget provider’s URL, set its dimensions, then position it and check its layer order. XSplit also offers some platform-specific widgets through its source menu and Plugin Store.

Before you add a widget

Find the widget URL or local webpage provided by the service that supplies your alert, chat box, or overlay. Provider instructions may call a URL an “Overlay URL,” “Widget URL,” or “Alert URL.” If the provider supplies a URL, use the web-page source in your streaming app; if it supplies a local page, both apps document a way to load one. A widget’s size, position, and layer order determine how it appears over the rest of your scene.

Add a widget to OBS Studio

  1. Select the scene. In OBS, choose the scene where you want the widget to appear.
  2. Add a Browser Source. In the Sources dock, click + and choose Browser. OBS describes Browser Source as a way to add a webpage to a scene and notes its use for alert overlays and chat boxes. The documented default viewport is 800 by 600 pixels. OBS Browser Source documentation.
  3. Enter the widget page. Paste the provider’s URL in the source’s URL field. For a locally saved page, enable Local file and select the page instead. Set the width and height to match the widget instructions and the space available in your scene. OBS Browser Source documentation.
  4. Place and size it. Save the properties, then select the source in the preview and move or resize it. For precise placement, right-click the source and choose Edit Transform. OBS sources guide.
  5. Set its layer. Check the Sources list. Sources higher in the list appear above those below them, so move the widget above the video or other elements it should cover. OBS sources guide.
  6. Refresh if needed. If the page is stale, open the Browser Source properties and use the control to refresh the current page’s cache. OBS Browser Source documentation.

For provider-hosted alerts, OBS’s tutorial describes adding a Browser source and pasting the provider URL; it names Streamlabs and StreamElements as examples and says the described workflow does not require an OBS plugin. OBS alert tutorial.

Add a widget to XSplit Broadcaster

  1. Select the scene or layout. Choose where the widget should appear.
  2. Add a Webpage source. Choose Add Source > Webpage, enter the widget URL, and confirm. XSplit’s Webpage source can also open a locally saved webpage. XSplit Webpage source documentation.
  3. Adjust webpage settings. Set the screen area and, if relevant, transparency and scrollbar visibility. XSplit also documents a 60 FPS option for this source; enabling it requires more CPU and GPU resources. XSplit Webpage source documentation.
  4. Arrange it on the stage. Resize and place the source on the canvas so it sits where intended relative to the other sources. XSplit getting-started guide.

XSplit’s source menu documents widget categories for Facebook Live, Twitch, and YouTube Live. Availability may depend on what is currently offered in the app. Its Twitch guide says Twitch widgets are not pre-installed and must be installed through the Plugin Store; alerts require account authorization, while chat features require connecting an account or channel. Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose a provider URL or an XSplit widget

  • Use a provider URL when the overlay, alert, or chat service gives you a webpage link. Add it as a Browser Source in OBS or a Webpage source in XSplit.
  • Use an XSplit platform widget when the source menu or Plugin Store offers the specific integration you need. Check whether it needs installation and account authorization before arranging the scene.
  • Match the source to your layout. In OBS, set Browser Source dimensions and layer order. In XSplit, configure the webpage display options and arrange the source on the stage.

These controls affect layout and rendering, not the widget provider’s account settings. If an alert or chat feature depends on a connected account, complete that authorization with the provider or platform as well.

Troubleshoot common widget problems

  • The widget does not appear: Confirm the URL is the widget or overlay URL, not just the provider’s homepage. Reopen the source properties and check the URL or local-file selection.
  • The widget is cut off or too small: Adjust the OBS Browser Source width and height, or XSplit’s webpage screen area, then resize and reposition the source in the scene.
  • The widget is behind another element: In OBS, move it higher in the Sources list. In either app, check its placement relative to the other sources on the canvas or stage.
  • The page shows old content: In OBS, use the Browser Source control to refresh the current page’s cache. If the problem persists, check the provider’s page and account settings.
  • XSplit webpage playback uses too many resources: If you enabled its 60 FPS option, turn it off and check whether that reduces the load; XSplit says this option requires more CPU and GPU resources.
  • An XSplit Twitch widget is missing: Check the Plugin Store because XSplit says these widgets are not pre-installed. Then complete the required account authorization or channel connection.

Or let it run in the cloud

Adding a widget to OBS or XSplit is separate from keeping a YouTube stream live. If your goal is to loop uploaded videos on a YouTube channel without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your home computer does not need to stay on; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not camera-based broadcasts. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
