To repurpose a livestream with AI, preserve the full recording, use a clip finder or transcript editor to identify possible highlights, then review and edit each selection before publishing. AI can suggest moments, create captions and reframe footage; it does not establish that a clip is complete, accurate or ready to post. Keep enough context for viewers to understand the point, check the crop and captions, and confirm music and other rights.
Start with the full recording
Keep an untouched copy of the livestream. The original lets you revisit what came before or after a suggested highlight, restore a missing qualification, and make a better cut if the first edit does not stand alone.
For future broadcasts, make moments easier to locate by signaling highlights as they happen. StreamYard documents saying “Clip that” during a broadcast as a marker for later suggestions; this is a StreamYard-specific technique, not a requirement for other tools.
Find candidate clips with AI
Choose a clip finder or transcript-based editor that accepts your recording. StreamYard says its AI Clips analyzes a recording and generates vertical 9:16 captioned clips with a title. Its Help Center also describes text prompts to guide clip topics and recordings up to six hours. These are documented StreamYard capabilities, not guarantees about every plan or other tools. Descript describes selecting candidate clips from a transcript and reframing them.

AI suggestions are starting points. The product documentation describes generation and editing features, but does not establish an independent accuracy rate for finding the best moments. Review every proposed clip against the original recording.
Decide whether a moment works on its own
A strong short clip makes one point, gives enough setup to understand it, and reaches a useful payoff. Include qualifications that change the meaning. A vivid sentence may be a poor clip if it answers a question viewers cannot hear or refers to something outside the frame.

- Check the opening: does a viewer arriving mid-conversation know what is being discussed?
- Check the ending: does the thought resolve, or does the cut interrupt an explanation?
- Check names, dates, figures and technical terms against the recording; automatic transcripts and captions can mishear them.
- Remove dead air only when doing so does not erase a pause, reaction or speaker turn that matters.
Edit the crop and captions
Inspect the vertical frame
For a 9:16 short, review the entire frame rather than assuming an automatic conversion has kept what matters. Keep the relevant speaker or action, demonstrations, slides and essential on-screen text visible. Make sure captions do not cover a face, key detail or important interface element.
StreamYard’s documented publishing flow creates vertical output by placing a blurred version of the video above and below the frame; its article does not describe zooming or re-centering in that flow. That is one product’s method, not a general requirement for vertical video. If your editor offers other crop controls, use them to preserve the important visual context.

Correct the captions
StreamYard documents automatically generated captions and the ability to edit or customize them in its Shorts and Reels workflow. Treat captions from any automated system as a draft: correct misheard words, punctuation and speaker names, and check that the text stays synchronized and readable on a phone.
Adapt the finished edit to its destination
Platform eligibility and a particular editor’s export limit are different things. YouTube Help says square or vertical videos up to three minutes uploaded after October 15, 2024 are categorized as Shorts for standard channels. It also says creators can upload eligible videos through YouTube Studio. As of October 3, 2026, YouTube Help states: “You can upload Shorts that are up to three minutes through the YouTube app and YouTube Studio.” Check YouTube’s current requirements before publishing, since platform rules can change.

By contrast, StreamYard’s publishing help describes its own short-form workflow as producing clips up to 60 seconds. That product limit should not be mistaken for YouTube’s platform-wide Shorts maximum.
StreamYard’s publishing flow lists YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, LinkedIn Profiles and TikTok as destinations. Those are destinations documented for that workflow; confirm current availability and limits in the product before relying on them.

Check rights before you publish
Review the recording for music, footage, images or other material you do not own or have permission to use. YouTube warns that externally created uploads containing copyright-protected material without approval may receive a Content ID claim or a removal request. Its current guidance also addresses copyright claim handling for Shorts longer than one minute; check the official rules before uploading, particularly when a clip includes third-party music.
Choose a tool for your recording and editing needs
| Workflow | What the product documentation describes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Your livestream is already in StreamYard | Its Help Center documents AI-generated, captioned vertical clips from recordings in its library and a short-form editing and publishing flow. | Current plan limits, destinations, generation limits and editing controls. |
| Your recording comes from elsewhere or needs more post-production | A StreamYard guide names Opus Clip and VEED for non-StreamYard recordings or heavier post-production. | Supported source imports, export limits, caption and reframing controls, pricing and current availability. |
| You prefer transcript-led selection | Descript describes finding candidate clips from a transcript and reframing them. | Supported imports, transcript correction, output controls, publishing options and plan terms. |
These product descriptions do not provide a controlled comparison of clip quality, speed or audience reach. Choose based on your recording source, editing control, caption and reframing needs, destinations and current plan limits—not an assumed accuracy ranking or promise of more views.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the livestream itself to keep running while your computer is off, StreamNeo is a separate YouTube-only service for looping uploaded recordings and playlists; it does not create a live camera feed or edit clips from a recording. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the stream running from the cloud, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops it. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
