Walt Disney World said it was monitoring Hurricane Milton on October 6, 2024, while WDW News Today reported that the resort had paused hotel reservations the previous day. That was a dated update, not a current alert: Disney later closed its Florida parks as Milton approached and planned to reopen them after assessing storm effects.
What Disney said as Hurricane Milton approached
On October 6, 2024, Walt Disney World said it was operating normally while monitoring the storm: “Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions. We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm as we continue to prioritize the safety of our Guests and Cast Members.” The statement was reproduced by WDW News Today.
That description applied to October 6. It should not be read as a description of Disney World’s current operations or as evidence that the resort is monitoring a storm today.
Did Disney stop taking hotel reservations before Milton?
WDW News Today reported on October 6 that Disney had paused hotel reservations on October 5 and blocked theme-park reservations for Wednesday, October 9. The report does not establish how long the hotel booking pause lasted or whether every booking channel was affected. The quoted Disney statement addressed monitoring and safety, rather than confirming the reservation pause.

On October 8, the Associated Press reported that its Tuesday-morning check of Disney World’s online reservation system showed no vacancies. That observation is not proof that Disney had imposed a system-wide booking ban; it also does not establish whether the earlier reported pause remained in effect.
How Disney’s operations changed, October 8–11
- October 8: AP reported that Disney planned to close its campgrounds and rental cabins ahead of the storm. Disney World’s parks were still open at the time of that report.
- October 9: All four Florida Disney parks closed early, AP reported.
- October 9–10: Disney World and other Orlando parks were closed for at least part of Wednesday and all of Thursday, according to AP.
- October 11: The parks planned to reopen after assessing the storm’s effects. AP cautioned that some experiences or special events might not be available.
Disney’s weather updates page advises guests to check for updates during severe weather and notes that resort experiences may be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled.

Could guests cancel a Disney World stay because of Milton?
A planDisney response dated October 8, 2024, described a hurricane policy for guests whose scheduled arrival fell within seven days of a National Hurricane Center hurricane warning for Orlando or the guest’s residence. Under the explanation, qualifying guests could reschedule or cancel without Disney-imposed change or cancellation fees for Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort hotel packages booked directly and most room-only reservations. The rule was described as applying based on travel dates, not the date the reservation was made.
The response does not establish that every reservation qualified, and it is not a current policy guarantee. Conditions and exclusions matter; anyone planning a future trip should read the official hurricane policy and check Disney’s weather updates before making a decision.

What this 2024 headline does—and does not—tell travelers
The booking-pause report belongs to the October 2024 response to Hurricane Milton. It does not show that Disney World currently has stopped accepting hotel reservations, and the later report of no vacancies cannot establish a booking restriction on its own. For a future storm, current conditions, reservation availability and cancellation terms must be checked with Disney rather than inferred from this timeline.
