If your LiveReacting broadcast still says “upcoming,” first check whether the scheduled YouTube event is actually due to start. An upcoming label before the scheduled time can be normal. If the start time has passed, verify the event and time zone, then confirm that LiveReacting—or your external encoder—is sending to that exact event. There is no single cause established for every case; the right diagnosis depends on your project and YouTube Live Control Room.
First, determine whether “upcoming” is expected
Check both the YouTube watch page and YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube says a stream scheduled for later may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming. If the event’s scheduled start time has not arrived, that status alone does not show that anything is broken.
If the scheduled time has passed and the event still appears upcoming, work through the checks below in order. Avoid changing several settings at once: confirming the event and its destination first can distinguish a scheduling mismatch from a feed or visibility issue.
Check the scheduled event and its time
- Find the intended event in YouTube Studio. Confirm that it exists and that you are checking the right broadcast, rather than another scheduled event on the channel.
- Compare the scheduled time with the device time zone. LiveReacting says its scheduling uses the time zone of the device used to schedule the stream. Check that zone against the time shown for the YouTube event; a time-zone mismatch can make the event appear not to have started when expected.
- Check how far ahead it was scheduled. LiveReacting documents scheduling YouTube videos up to two weeks in advance. If the intended event is outside that window, verify the schedule in YouTube Studio and use an available scheduling workflow.
Make sure LiveReacting selected the same YouTube event
If you created the event in YouTube separately, LiveReacting needs to be connected to the channel and pointed at that existing event. In the LiveReacting project:

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
- Open Settings and connect the relevant YouTube channel.
- Open Advanced Settings.
- Enable Connect to existing stream.
- Choose the intended scheduled event from the dropdown.
When an existing event is selected this way, LiveReacting says it pulls the event’s title and description from the channel. Check the selected event carefully; selecting a different event will not send the project to the one you intended.
If an external encoder is sending the feed, check its destination and key
If you use an external encoder, such as OBS, verify that it is sending to the intended scheduled event using the corresponding YouTube stream key. YouTube describes the stream key as credential and destination information used by the encoder to send the feed. A correctly configured existing key does not need to be reset as a first troubleshooting step.

- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the intended event and check whether YouTube shows an incoming feed.
- Compare the event selected in LiveReacting or the encoder with the event you are inspecting in Studio.
- Confirm that the encoder is using the stream key associated with that destination.
- If a channel owner or manager resets the key in YouTube Studio, update the encoder with the newly generated key. The old key will not become the new one automatically.
Never post or send a stream key publicly. Treat it as a credential for your broadcast destination.
Check privacy without treating it as the assumed cause
YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted privacy settings. A private preview may be visible only to the creator, according to LiveReacting’s preview guidance. LiveReacting also warns that interactive elements require the stream to be public.

Check the event’s privacy setting if the issue is that viewers cannot see it. However, the available documentation does not establish privacy as a cause of an event remaining “upcoming,” so changing privacy is not a guaranteed fix for that status.
Choose the right operating path
| Path | Where the feed starts | Where to verify the destination | Where to check the stream key |
|---|---|---|---|
| LiveReacting project | In the LiveReacting workflow. | In the project’s Advanced Settings, with Connect to existing stream enabled if using an event created separately in YouTube. | Check the YouTube connection and destination selected for the project. |
| Plugin Mode | In the third-party streaming software used with LiveReacting. LiveReacting lists OBS, Wirecast, StreamYard, and Ecamm as plugin-mode options. | Check the event selected for the workflow and the destination shown in YouTube Studio. | Check the encoder’s configured key and replace it there if it was reset in YouTube Studio. |
Plugin Mode is an alternative workflow, not a documented repair that by itself changes an existing event from upcoming to live. Switch modes only if that matches how you intend to operate the stream; changing modes does not replace checking the scheduled event and feed destination.

If it is still upcoming, collect the details support needs
Public documentation cannot inspect your LiveReacting project, selected destination, encoder feed, or the state shown in your Live Control Room. If the checks do not resolve the problem, record the following before contacting the relevant support channel:
- The event URL and its scheduled start time, including the time zone.
- The YouTube event selected in the LiveReacting project, if applicable.
- Whether you are using the LiveReacting workflow or Plugin Mode, and which encoder is involved.
- Whether YouTube Studio shows an incoming feed for the intended event.
Do not include the stream key in a public post or support message unless you are using a secure channel that specifically requires it.

Nothing has to stay running at home; it streams your upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera-based live broadcast. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
