First, find out whether the silence affects one viewer or everyone, and whether the audio is audible in the source or encoder before it reaches YouTube. If only one person cannot hear the stream, check that viewer’s playback device. If everyone is affected, trace the audio path from the LiveReacting source through the encoder to the published stream.
Start by locating where the sound disappears
Ask two questions before changing settings: Can the producer hear the audio in the source or encoder? And is the stream silent for every viewer, or only one?
- One viewer is affected: Check that person’s YouTube player, browser, and device sound settings first.
- Several viewers are affected: Check the selected source and audio input, then listen to the encoder output. If the encoder sounds right but viewers still hear silence, investigate the outbound connection.
- The producer also hears no audio: Start with the source itself, the selected input, or the screen-sharing route, depending on what is meant to be heard.
This separates playback problems from problems in the broadcast chain and avoids changing unrelated settings.
If only one viewer cannot hear the stream
Have the affected viewer check the YouTube player’s volume, the browser or device volume, and the device’s sound settings. YouTube also recommends restarting the browser or device if sound still does not work. These checks are for the viewer’s playback path; they do not establish that the broadcast itself is silent. If the stream uses audio from a shared browser tab
LiveReacting documents tab-audio sharing through Chrome. In Chrome, choose the Chrome Tab sharing source, enable Share Audio, and then click Share. The documented route is for a tab; selecting a screen or an app window is not the same audio-sharing method. LiveReacting Help Center: Screen Sharing.
- Open the tab whose audio you want viewers to hear in Chrome.
- In LiveReacting’s screen-sharing flow, select Chrome Tab.
- Turn on Share Audio in the sharing dialog.
- Click Share, then check whether the shared audio reaches the preview or encoder.
If the tab is visible but silent, re-check that the tab—not a screen or app window—was selected and that Share Audio was enabled before sharing.

If a microphone or camera audio is missing
Check which audio device LiveReacting has selected. Its January 2025 feature post describes choosing the camera and audio device from dropdowns and connecting internal or external cameras and audio devices, including microphones. Make sure the intended microphone or camera audio input is selected and active. The post describes this feature as beta and notes that issues or bugs may occur. LiveReacting: Live Stream with Camera and Microphone.
If the input is selected but remains silent, note whether it is audible outside the LiveReacting stream and whether a different available input behaves differently. The cited feature description does not establish that buying a new microphone will fix silence caused by a wrong selection, tab-sharing setup, or encoder routing.

Check LiveReacting’s audio quality setting
LiveReacting recommends audio quality at 128k unless you know the streaming destination supports higher-quality audio input, warning that higher settings could cause playback problems. Check this setting if the audio path is otherwise correct; it is a configuration to verify, not a universal explanation for total silence. LiveReacting Help Center: Settings Configuration for Live Stream.
Listen to the encoder output
YouTube advises checking the stream’s look and sound directly in the encoder. If the encoder output is silent or sounds wrong, investigate the audio and video sources routed into it, encoder errors, CPU load, and any local archive. If the encoder output sounds healthy but the published stream does not, investigate outbound internet connectivity. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot live stream issues.

Use the scope of the complaint to narrow the fault: one viewer points toward that viewer’s device or playback; many viewers on one network suggests a shared network or playback path; reports from viewers on different networks make the encoder, source routing, or outgoing stream path more important to check.
